With determination Cadre run to the light. He does not want to be in this uncertain darkness. He run and run, but the light was still far away. He wanted to give up. He will to run is getting tired now. He wanted to give up.
'"Baby, remember to never give up no matter what happens okay"'
His mother's voice echoed in his mind. It game him an inspiration. He must not give up. His mother said to him to not give up. How could he afford to think of giving up now. He has a family waiting for him in his home. He ran again but now, he has no intention to stop. He needs to do this for his family and himself. He must never give up.
The light was getting near now. He speed up feeling happy because finally, after hours of running he will finally reach the light. When the light was within arms reach, he jumped into it.
When he got inside he was surprised in what he see. What he see was himself. He see what he is now a fly. A fly as white as snow. Eyes red as blood with wing double the size of his body with rainbows haloing in his wings. He see is his body turning to dust. Piling on the sharp stones beneath.

He is mortified. His body is getting destroyed. He approach his body and hugged it. He doesn't want his body to be destroyed. He need it to go back to his world. The world where his family is waiting for him. But even with his pleading in his mind and hug it still ended up being dust in his arms.
He begin crying. How will he go back to his family now. He doesn't know where the thought came from but he know he had to rebuild his body. He begin gathering the dust. Even when he was getting wounded by the sharp rocks he did not stop. With his blood, sweat and tears drenching his dust body. The dust become a clay. He did not know that he already bled and produced that much liquid from his crying and sweat.
His body begin moving on his own. He was already building back his body as a fly. He started the insides of his body. The organs even the smallest tissue and blood vessels. He make his body from his limbs until the tip of his wings. He doesn't know how he know to make his body. Especially now that his body is a fly. He just let his body move on its own. It's like a muscle memory and instinct. With one last piece his body is now complete.
When he placed the last piece, his control of his body come back. He see the body he created drying fast. The moisture leaves the clay body until it begins to crack. Within those cracks shine a light. Getting brighter as the crack began getting larger. He was amazed on what he is seeing. When the light covered the body entirely it continues to shine for a few moments before gradually dimming down.

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
