《Sonnets》25. The Darkened Abyss

As I gaze into the darkened abyss of oblivion

it's quite surprising to see it staring back.

Whenever someone doubts their living again

it is to be repelled, like an unwanted attack.

I'm not afraid of dying, there are scarier things

such as no one missing you or being forgotten.

Death is constant to all the peasants and kings

the difference is if we die happy or leave rotten.

Bridges were burned, some may never recover

as I chose ego and pride over those I cared for.

Things could never go back to the way they were

as it pains me to end things, to close that door.

No matter what was said and done, I still care

but I keep it to myself, anything else is unfair.
