《THE MAN WHO FOUGHT GOD》Prologue

An old man sat in a cabin with his family. A son, the son’s wife, and their child. The grandson of the old man ran around in the fire-lit cabin as the old man sat by the fireplace. The old man began to get annoyed.

“Boy, you best stop running around and go to bed!” The old man’s voice wasn’t loud but it had much power behind it. It was just a side effect of a long life. Something that was a rarity in this world.

However, the boy showed no signs of stopping. It may have been a powerful voice but to him, it was just his, stern but kind, grandpa's voice. “NO! how can I sleep I haven’t heard a story yet.”

The boy's father speaks up, “Story, what are you going on about?”

The boy looks at his father causing him to stop running. He makes up for it by jumping in place. “Ron said his grandpa tells stories before he goes to bed. I want a story too!”

the father laughs at the idea. “How does that make any sense? Wouldn’t you just get more excited by hearing a story?”

“Nooooo, so tell me one! Come on old man, do you even know any stories, or is Ron’s grandpa better than you?”

The father stops what he is doing and looks at the boy. “That is enough, you will not talk about your grand—.”

The old man raises his hand, telling his son it was alright. “Now, now. The boy has made a claim against my character. This is now something between us two. So you asked me if I knew any stories, hmmm.” The old man sits in silence for a while causing the boy to stare in anticipation. “I only know one story; it is about a man who fought God. Do you think that will be enough to satisfy you?”

Before the boy can say anything the father slams his hands down on a table. “Father you have no obligation to tell him that.”

The boy is shocked by his father’s reaction and is scared in place, looking between his father and grandfather. His father didn’t seem angry, but rather concerned for his grandfather. The boy wonders why this story could bring such a reaction out of his father.

Once again the old man raises his hand, this time facing his own son. “Do you not think this story is good enough to satisfy the child?” the old man’s stare is gentle but had something else about it. Something that let you know as soon as he looked at you that he has seen many things. With some of those things being quite dark.

The father speaks after remaining silent for a second. “No… of course not. I would never say that.”

The old man smiles looking back to the boy. “Good, now we can proceed with our business.”

The boy more curious than ever sits down in front of the old man. Making sure to scoot closer to the old man several times in a row.

The old man laughs. “Are you ready?”

The boy nods with a serious look on his face. Whatever this story was, he was going to remember it no matter what because it seems very important to grownups.

“The story begins with a boy who was not only blessed by God but given a special power. He didn’t know what the power was but he could feel it within him and was unable to use it until he got older.”

The father, nodding to himself as if confirming something, walked over to the boy and old man sitting down in a chair. He planned to listen just as closely to this story for it meant far more than the boy could ever realize.
