《My Isekai》Chapter 23 - Need for healing

The following day we left Lynne with to watch Naomi and continue with dismantling my prey. The rest of us equipped with newly made baskets headed out foraging. Armed with Lawra's knowledge on valuable plants, I directed the group to suitable spots. By now the surrounding forest was like my backyard. I might have scared off the prey, but there were still plenty of good foraging spots.

By noon I was looking at an injured leg. Lawra managed to fall out of a tree while picking fruits. Opposite me is Kira, who is about to show me how her healing magic works. I had almost forgotten about the healing magic. My wounds heal so quickly due to my high regeneration level that all I have to do is stop the bleeding and it will heal with minimum scaring. Not so with the girls. Mari's wounds healed many days ago, but clear scars were still left. If only I could learn how to fix them.

As Kira starts moving mana to the palm of her hands hovering over the injured leg, I sense rather than see the mana going into the leg and the wound. The bleeding stops, broken cells are removed and new cells stimulated to grow. Kira's explanation was vague and lacking of fundamental medical knowledge that I take for granted, but seeing the process for myself I know exactly how it works. Healers of this world might not fully understand what they are doing or how they are doing it, but it works.

As the wound close I am pretty sure I can replicate the action and do even more. I ask Mari, if I can have a look at a scar on her arm. The scar tissue sharply deviate from what should be a smooth surface. The wound has healed, but the healing process has left a wreckage of her skin. Mari's face is showing just how much she hate the ugly scar. I use mana to soften the scar tissue, I stimulate skin growth under the tissue as I gradually remove the dead scar tissue.

Very smooth pink skin see the light of day. Tempering the skin tone, the color difference gradually fade until no sign of a previous injury can be seen. Kira, who walked over in the middle of the process looks shocked. I guess healing old scars is not common in this world either. I am a bit amazed it worked. I am after all no scar tissue expert.

I wait for Kira's shock to settle before trying to explain what I did. Her shock is replaced by repressed anger. Why would she be angry? "How could you experiment on Mari for your first time healing. Everyone who learns healing starts with injured animals, and only competent healers are allowed to heal humans." Kira's tirade makes a lot of sense. Though I have the advantage of basic medical knowledge from my world. I still took an unacceptable risk.

I spend rest of the walk back assuring Kira and Mari, I just wasn't thinking. Mostly Kira, I get the feeling Mari wouldn't even blame me if I caused complications. Kira's frustration with me eventually relent. "I guess you can already be classed as competent." Despite having Kira annoyed at me for the whole journey back I am still happy because it looks like the girls have become very protective of Mari, even against me.

There is still quite a bit of the day left, so I ask the trio to demonstrate any combat abilities they have. When we head out of the forest I need to know the full abilities of everyone in the group. I am not expecting anything from Mara and Mari, and I will happily leave them to take care of Naomi, but the trio are all technically hunters. Kira shows off some very accurate knife throwing skills, but that appears to be it. She still hasn't been able to incorporate her fire magic into her attacks. She might be able to light an enemy on fire if she touched them, but she would likely be burnt in the process.

Next up is Lynne and Lawra. Lynne, has no combat skills, but is at least able to hold and point a spear. Lawra less so. I set aside the next coming afternoons to drill some basics into them. I might be self taught, but with my high spear skill I should be able to impart something of value. I encourage Kira to help out, to get her used to being my second in command in security.

Kira also decides that I need to continue my training using healing magic. Catching fish in the shallows of the lake, she observes me repeatedly healing the fish. Poor fish must have felt like it was on death's door a dozen times before it eventually became dinner. Sleeping arrangement remained the same as last night, as well as the nightly activity. I am still wondering how Mari feels about this. She doesn't show any signs of disliking it. She might be more emotionally scared than I thought. If so, I should not expect any nightly activities from her even in the future.

With the exception of the injury, the next few days were mostly the same. As my storage is filled up with foraged plants, I start to make plans for the journey out of the forest.
