《Muddy Dreams》17. New Teacher

The path to excellence is a tough one, we would have to work hard.

Still Iirin was very helpful now that he decided I was actually a person who he could communicate with. His family held a small training pavilion a few minutes from our training grounds.

I was allowed to leave the compound only under the supervision of my partner. Which only made me more depressed and caged.

Still the path through the camp was interesting, the organisation was strict.

The paths lay clear and open.

The camp segmented into orderly squares, with uniform tents and temporary buildings.

Every segment seemed to have the same amount of people in each square.

All tending to their various pieces of equipment, lowering their eyes when they saw Iirin walking past in his robes.

They seemed content with staring me down as we walked past, not happy giving me any of the respect they were giving him.

Still we reached the inner parts of the camp shortly after.

The squares quickly changed when we got to the innermost part of the camp.

Their size was entirely different. Huge goliaths compared to their much smaller cousins around them.

He led us through the twists and turns of these new squares, until we reached a very impressive looking building.

Surrounded by other even more impressive buildings however.

I had no idea why they built such incredible buildings in a temporary camp.

"Magic construction, surprisingly cheap"

That was all Iirin said as we walked into the biggest building I had ever seen in my life, yet still a dwarf compared to the other towers that raised around us, invisible until we were on top of them.

"It can't compare to any of the high houses or Warlord representatives, but we are still a strong enough family, your luck in partnering with me is quite high compared to anyone else there."

"except Urtil"

His glare spoke volumes as we went through the door. The inside was like nothing I had ever seen before. A grand staircase wrapped around the outside of the circular entrance-way, huge halls going off in three separate directions surrounded us.

Before I got a chance to appreciate the immense and incredible artistry that surrounded us, Iirin was already walking away.

Going through the central hall, we came into another large room.

This one had even more hallways heading off, as well as some stairs in the middle of the room heading down.

Which is of course where we went.

It took us a few minutes before we came out to a training area that dwarfed the courtyard in the academy.

At the moment it was only filled with one person.

A man standing straight and tall. His steely gaze made the captains feel soft and friendly.

Iirin immediately straightened his posture as we came closer, still nothing seemed to escape this man's steely gaze.

But if he was training us then I figured we would be run pretty hard. I don't know how Iirin sorted a trainer for us on such short notice, it had barely been an hour since our defeat, but whatever he had done, we were here.

"Glad you guys finally got here, took you long enough."

"Sorry, Master Enusu"

For the first time I saw an expression of respect, he had lost all hint of his normal cocky visage. This man could get at something deeper for Iirin.

"You finally experienced loss against someone other than your siblings"

"Yes sir."

I just tried to remain silent, Enusu's words seemed to ripple across the space between us, ripping into our psyches both, forcing us to build ourselves up mentally.

"Good, it's not too late to get some good positions before the culling. You are not doomed to death just yet."

"Please Master, teach us."

"Okay, who is in your cohort that is forcing you to come to me."

"Lord Urtil of Bejir"

For the first time Unusu's face took on an expression other than calm and silent disdain.

His smile was unexpected.

"Finally a chance for us to teach one of the Bejir Brats that they are not the gods they thought themselves to be."

It seemed I had also just landed myself in a little tense political situation.

I hadn't noticed any aggression on Iirins path towards Urtil, so maybe it was just Unusu, but I couldn't be sure yet. Either way as long as such a powerful man is training us.

I would rather the benefits I would have gotten from the Empire when I awakened as a Tier 7, still beggars can't be choosers.

"Yes Master, I am ready to train to beat him and become a prime, leading the family to further glory."

Unusu waved that off.

"I don't want to hear any false pretenses, as long as you are dedicated to your cause of getting strong, I can help you. If you fall off the path then I am afraid that this is your last chance."

Iirin bowed deeply, I followed suit soon after, I figured it wasn't in my best interest to anger the man.

I felt a strong and firm energy lifting me back up to a standing position.

"You have no need to bow to me outsider, I am training you purely to assist the young master, I am not your master or teacher beyond that."

"Okay Sir"

The force of magic began to move around to his side, Iirin was still in front of him. It was clear Unusu's attention was fully on him.

"I will be teaching you the basics of summoning so you can perform better than you did today"

I thought he didn't know what happened today. Still once again I was treated as a second class citizen after everything was taken from me.

One day when I reached my true strength, I would take back all the injustices the Warlords inflicted on me.

He continued teaching Iirin one on one, taking what seemed like great care, for me.

"Your summoning is coming from the completely wrong place. You are bringing it from your world into our own without any worries of synchronicity. If you had gone about your summoning in the correct manner, your major summon would have been able to do no small amount of damage to the shield."

That seemed impossible, the captain had mentioned that Tier gaps were inescapable.

Before I could question him any further he had already moved on to the next topic. It was clear he wasn't interested in teaching me.

Still the information he was giving was very beneficial to my growth.

After about an hour of information, which luckily enough I could get the grove-tenders to write down, he finished with both of us.

Sending us back to continue training after our own training tomorrow.

I went back to bed with my brain and body aching, this would be some hard training.
