"Angel's mind have the ability to make miracles happen, they work with the same energy source of the Gods, the Angel's mind needs his host to have follower, beings that believe in it. The miracles are mostly a way to protect and heal the Angel's mind host and its companions. When in really deep crysis the Angel's mind can smite the enemy with the pure belief energy it has accumulated."
-Bee May, the faery of knowledge
"Ok, the angels are usually the smartest being in the room, even when they are outside the room itself... But they should not act so smug about it. Still don't like angels."
The village decided that they could not live isolated and unknowing anymore. This time it was different, the sounds came from a single direction. The rest of the forest was probably safer.
Robert decided to send a three man team towards the east, the village had to know what was happening. The three man team was formed by:
Brielle, the head scout and leader of this expedition;
Sidon, the Frist Hunter;
Little Wolf, the First Hunter's son.
The village chief knew that sending anyone outside of the village was really dangerous, that's why he sent the two strongest fighters with Brielle. It was a bold and risky move, he knew that with Sidon and Little Wolf with her Brielle would be safe but, the village would be vulnerable without those two. Thats why while those three were away every villager that could be spared was put on the walls, so that they could have more eyes and ears. If something seemed off they had to sound their horns, with Little Wolf's hearing he could probably hear the horn anywhere inside the forest, if he used his full potential he could carry the other two back to the village in a small amount of time.
Brielle became the head scout really young, Todd left his position to her. The scouts always traveled in groups of three so they could help each other out, usually the three scouts have been a team for years so they develop affinity and better collaboration. Todd used to travel with two recruits every day, so that they could get experience and he could judge when they were ready to go with a three man party of their own. When he traveled with Brielle the first time, she was the worst scout he ever oversaw, she made basic mistakes that should have been addressed by her teachers inside the village, she should not be outside the forest if she was that green. Then something happened, she stopped in place, called the full stop of the party, then crouched and stood still for a little while, when Todd was about to call the retreat and reprimand both Brielle and the teachers that judged her ready for the forest she got up and said "This way." She guided the three man team across the forest, near a little stream they found a boar that was goring a pack of wolves, other than the possible target for the hunters, they found that near the river there was a bounty of edible mushrooms and herbs. Todd decided to give her a chance after that, he brought Brielle and a random apprentice scout inside the forest for a week. Brielle was definetly green but, she had something that could not be taught, she had instincts. Her mind worked a little differently than what he was used to, when inside the forest Brielle would become obsessed with something she saw or smelled, she could not stop thinking about it until she resolved that enigma. Todd was sure that if Brielle was guided in the right direction she would become the best scout he had ever trained. So he did just that, they formed a stable two man team and every day they would go outside, joined by a new rectuit every time. Todd would teach the two rectuits how to be scouts and, he would teach Brielle how to judge and follow what her istincts were telling her. After a snow passed Brielle bloomed, her scouting was getting better and her istincts were being honed and sharpened. So... Todd made her the head scout but, he stayed in her team, so that he could guide her.

Brielle and Sidon were walking silently side by side, Little Wolf was in his predator form, he was hovering around them, touching and sniffing everything he found interesting.
"Robert told us that I should lead this party but, you are the First Hunter, we are inside the forest, we will follow the rules. Inside the village listen to the chief, in the forest listen to the First Hunter."
Said Brielle.
Sidon grunted. "Yeah... No, Bob is right. We are not on a hunting quest, we don't know what we will find. My son got the better senses of us three, he should be the one to lead... But, thats not happening. We will follow what you say Bri, until there is danger, thats where I will step in."
"Are you sure?"
Asked the head scout.
"Yeah, let's get things done. I don't like this."
Said Sidon.
Around seven to ten days later, the group found what was happening: An army was traveling from the mountains in the direction of the village. There were too many men to count without the risk of getting discovered. They were a ragtag group, their clothes were not uniform, some were missing pieces too, their weapons were mostly rusty swords and maces, some long dagger, the bows they saw were poorly made and they were made with normal wood and not hardwood. The army had no scouts and, they were not marching uniformly. A big group was in the front, then the army became a long snaking trickle of people. Maybe an army was the wrong way to describe them, an horde was more appropriate. In the middle of the big group in front, there were ten to fifteen soldier, with what looked like iron or steel armor, they were mounted and possessed spear, shield and a sword with them. The soldiers were surrounding a carriage.
The three of them could not get anymore info, the howls and bleats were coming from around the horde, obviously they came down from the mountain with so many people that they stirred the hornet nest. While Brielle thought that they were mostly safe, with the horde getting the attention of the predators, they could leave unperturbed. Sidon thought otherwise, three stragglers in front of the horde were an easier prey.

And Sidon was right, as they took some distance from the horde, so they could regroup and go back to the village, they were attacked by ten wolves. Or they would have been, instead the wolves got ambushed by Little Wolf. While Sidon and Brielle were on the ground trying to get as much information possible, Little Wolf was following the other two up on the trees, Sidon told him to do so, in case there were hungry droppers around. Little Wolf did not find droppers in the trees but, he found wolves on the ground and he was getting bored so, he stole the droppers tactic. He jumped on top of the biggest wolf when the pack was getting ready to pounce on Sidon and Brielle. In a couple of chaotic seconds the ten wolves were dismembered and most of them eaten by Little Wolf, he needed all the energy he could gain. Little Wolf took Brielle in a princess carry while Sidon took position on his back, he had to move and be fast, they needed to inform the village of the horde.
Little Wolf could not run all the way to the village, Brielle was pretty light but, Sidon was HEAVY! He ran until he could, then he gently lowered Brielle on the ground and passed out. Sidon had to carry his son the rest of the way. Sidon, Brielle and Little Wolf saw the village walls after another day, the horde was four days away. They had work to do.

Please share your thoughts about the story! Feedback and criticism is welcome, it'll help me improve my writing. "The final year of high school is the most difficult." This statement has never been truer for Damis, a student attending one of the many schools in the City of Sundridge. He never wanted anything more than to live a peaceful life, going so far as to avoid having large group of friends, indulging in dragged out conversations, or being involved in any other activity that requires him to invest a large amount of effort to accomplish. Instead, he poured all of his efforts into studying, dwelling in his internal monologues, and complaining about the things that annoy him to his one and only friend, Noah. Before long, he ended up as one of the best students in his class. As far as he was concerned, he was content with how he lived. But, after a confrontation with an eccentric girl named May, one of his classmates since the first year of high school, things have suddenly gotten out of hand. And as a result, his life became a lot more hectic than it used to be. Bound by a deal he could not refuse, his life as May's assistant began. At this rate, can he still spend the final days of his high school life in peace? Welcome to the life of Damis, the boy who's always A Step Behind Death. The cover art is made by friend of mine.
