《New Empire》Chapter 14: Map (1)

Inside the fort, Benjamin has taken command once again under Mogus’ supervision.
Using the telescope Benjamin gave him alongside his excellent vision and some simple magic, he could see the 50 planes high in the sky nearly 500km away.
If he flew up to be on the same height as them, he was confident he could even see the creases on his skin.
Getting the information he needed, he landed lightly in front of Benjamin.
“We’ll take care of them.” Knowing Benjamin wouldn’t understand, Mogus patted his chest as he pointed to the planes.
“No, no sir. We must, as a sign of good gesture.” Benjamin shook his head as he patted his chest hard.
Narrowing his eyes, Mogus slapped his big chest.
Benjamin began glaring as they both began hitting themselves harder each time trying to take the opportunity.
Right before they were about to start fighting each other, they heard the galloping from Jaharns group.
“Humph, I’ll tell you everything in a second.” Benjamin snorted as he waited for Karlen to come.
“I’ll show you my proper strength and make you respect His Highness soon enough.” Mogus chuckled with a mirthless smile as he looked towards the giant Kan-Celeste that had fully landed beside the town, making the whole town look like a house in comparison.
“Lord Mogus, we’ve returned!” Karlen shouted as he looked around, seeing all of Benjamin's soldiers return to their posts.
“Good, tell this old man that we don’t need them nor their weak bodies and we’ll take care of the problem.” Mogus pointed to the soldiers.
As Karlen translated to Benjamin, he grew surprised.
“You’re not part of them, right? You must know what our modern anti-air can do, there’s no need for them to take action. Just tell him it’s our way of showing gratitude.” Benjamin growled as he crossed his arms.

“Gratitude? Haha, alright, I guess I’ll see how your tiny ballistas will work.” Mogus laughed as he walked to his office.
Giving an awkward smile to Benjamin, Karlen decided not to translate that and followed Mogus.
“My lord!” Jaharn stopped Mogus as he was about to enter.
“I believe we should take note of their power. They seem to have put all their strength into these.. Fire arms? I believe Karlen called them guns. Flaut found one and we tested it. The result is that it left a slight white mark on my hand and that is it.” Jaharn presented the revolver to Mogus as he spoke.
“Huh? This thing can leave a mark on you? There’s no sharp edge, not good enough for blunt damage, I don’t understand.” He inspected it curiously.
“Ah, it’s not a complicated process. If I may?” Nodding, Mogus returned the revolver to Jaharn.
Fumbling with it, he simply passed it to Karlen who stood behind watching silently.
“Again..” Karlen sighed as he aimed to some armour a demon had left behind mounted on a wall.
“Boom.” They looked on as they saw they saw the bullet pierce the armour with a big hole appearing on both sides.
“Interesting.. Interesting! So I assume those things over there are the same, but much more powerful?” With shining eyes, he pointed to the anti-air that was already aiming towards the planes in the distance.
“Ahh… Yes, I guess you can say that. Those are anti-air which is made specifically to deal with aerial enemies. You’ll see them in action once the planes arrive. I’m confident in saying these are the most modern ones in the whole world. Due to Jusla having a low population compared to the rest of the world, it has made up in technological advancements, especially in these days of war.” Karlen returned the gun to Jaharn, who in turn gave it to Mogus.

“I see.. Tell me more in my office, come. Jaharn, keep an eye on them, tell me if anything happens.” Performing a salute, Jaharn left, leaving only Karlen and Mogus who quickly entered the office.
“Jusla, or more formally, Jusla Republic has a population of around 10 million, which is very small compared to the rest of the world. But they are lucky in that they seem to get great people of every kind. Scientists, engineers, generals, every type of person seems to be born or attracted to Jusla, it’s basically considered a holy land, granting them a great advantage in both technology and military.”
“In addition to the fact that the land is rich in resources, the only thing keeping Jusla from rising above the whole world and conquering everything is their small population and the politicians. I believe I’ve mentioned this before, but Jusla hasn’t been a monarchy for a couple of centuries now, it’s ruled by presidents that change every decade or so.” Taking a short pause to drink a glass of water, he thought a bit.
“Ehm.. Ah, there should be an atlas in the desk or somewhere, that’ll give you a good view of the land rather than having me explain it.” Karlen looked through the shelves on the walls as he spoke.
“This thing?” Mogus took out a large smooth paper map.
“Yep, just be careful not to rip it, it’s quite delicate.” A bit anxious, Karlen took the map and slowly opened it.
Fully extended it lay across the whole desk.
“This is us.. And this is Einzalt, where I’m from.” Karlen pointed to Jusla, an island north of the main continent.
“Jusla does a lot of trade, they really do have the best maps.” Karlen whistled as he looked through it.
“They discovered a new continent!?” He stared in shock as he pointed to a small protrusion of land in the west.
“Hoho, you have these flying birds you call planes and have such wondrous technology.. Yet you haven’t even explored your world yet?” Raulas appeared through thin air as he walked to the map, inspecting it.
