《New Empire》Chapter 5: Little Letter

“There’s nothing yet..? Was I perhaps mistaken... Excuse me for a minute Captain Mea.” The general's voice grew distant and a door opening and closing was heard from the radio.
Sighing in frustration, Benjamin sat at his table inspecting the report he was sent.
“23rd of November, 22:20 PM. Highly explosive bomb heading to Leus. Use caution, if exploded in midair, may cause toxic substances to fall. Use planes to chase the enemy to open waters. Enemy has no escort, but be ready in an emergency. Information gathered by Sir Hin-” Putting the report down, Benjamin focused back on the radio.
“Sorry for the delay, captain. Report is still active, no new changes have occurred. Do you have any other requests?” General Tores sounded annoyed as he asked.
“I’d like to request some more rations and for a shift change. My men are getting tired. The rations needed are as follows.” Benjamin slowly and clearly read out a long list of supplies and items that had been waning.
“Understood, is there anything else?”
“No sir, long live the republic!” Benjamin put his fist to his heart as he spoke with passion.
“Long live the republic.” General Tores’ voice sounded tired and half hearted as he cut the line.
Putting the radio back on the floor, Benjamin smirked to himself.
“What is the capital doing nowadays..” He let out a deep sigh as he took a piece of paper and wrote a letter.
“To my dearest Liz, hope you’re doing well. Very sorry that daddy can’t be there for you right now, I’m doing very important work and I’m trying to keep you safe. I promise I’ll be back by Holy Nazeu’s Day, truly I do promise. I’ll bring back a great big bunny just for you, don’t let your mother see it though or else I’ll be chased out of the house. I put some money in the envelope. Spend it without worry. Happy birthday, congratulations on turning 9!” Benjamin had a smile that reached his ears as he gently blew on the paper and waited for it to dry before folding it and placing it into an envelope along with some paper 20’s.

“Officer!” Benjamin took back his smile and barked to the door.
It immediately opened as the officer saluted robotically.
“Take this along with the other soldiers’ letters, it’s delivery time.” The officer took Benjamin's letter and saluted again before leaving to collect the rest.
“Still.. This is quite worrying.. Perhaps that plane was just a distraction? Or a lie?” Benjamin slowly grew anxious as he felt tired.
…
“According to Emelias report, the town should be heavily protected shouldn’t it? Maybe those towers are Magic Cannons, are you even sure of what you saw? I heard that the vision you share with the Blood Beings are all red.” Aris the lion beastman teased Emelia as he rubbed his bushy red mane.
“Well of course you wouldn’t know. All you know how to do is use your claws like a savage, at least use a sword or something no? Also, those towers seem too big to be Magic Cannons ah?.. Unless they’re stronger? But I doubt that since this world's technology seems better than ours.. They should have more Spiritualists right?” Emelia pouted as she grew frustrated.
Spiritualists were people who could use the magic of the world, named Common Magic. Most people used Common Magic with spells as they required the least amount of magic. Common magic included things such as telekinesis, light healing, creating small sparks, or a glass of water and other simple things.
Other types of magic such as Elemental and Spirit Magic required the use of runes and a higher level of spirituality. To create runes one had to image runes in their heads and project it outside of their bodies to the physical plane.
If one wanted to create a lake, common magic would not be enough therefore one would use Elemental Magic runes to summon forth a wave of water.

Spirit Magic was usually used for healing or summoning undead to fight for the summoner and was usually hard to gain access to. If someone with the wrong intentions accidentally summoned a powerful undead, it would be a disaster for the city.
There are also people who just innately have some magic or can gain it through maturing. Emelia is one such example, as a vampire, the older she gets the more Blood Beings she can create.
Blood Beings are creatures that can take the form of anything near perfectly if it has sufficient blood for it, though they emit an extremely bloody smell so they are usually only used for combat.
“Maybe I should take another look!” Emelia balled up her little fists with a determined look
“Absolutely not!” Raulas spoke out as soon as he heard her. “We know nothing about this world yet. I don’t want to lose the 3 of you like I had the rest.”
A sad looked overtook all of them as they lowered their heads for a second. Aris put his paw on Emelias head and patted it.
“Humph!” Emelia pouted but kept his paw as she seemed to enjoy its softness.
As Azrael was about to speak, they heard a knock at the door and a maid walked in with both of the rescued humans.
They both walked in with new and brilliant blue aristocratic clothes that matched their dirty blonde hair and blue eyes.
The two humans stared at the grand throne and rich decorations in awe as they slowly approached.
Seeing their maid escort stop suddenly, they too stopped.
Bowing at Raulas the maid began to leave.
“Ah.. Eh.. Ehh. Th- Tenk yuo.” Karlen tried his best to pronounce the strange “Thank you” that he heard coming over here, yet he still found it hard to pronounce due to some extreme differences in the languages.
The maids who happened to be a cute succubus blushed and nodded at him with a smile.
“What a quick learner.. This might be good for us..” Azraels voice woke up Karlen who turned his attention to him.
“Kneel.” Azrael took out a large saber as he pointed it towards them.
Looking at the sword, Bayer and Karlen both understood and went on their knees.
“My lord, allow me to use Spirit Magic to allow him to speak to us.” Azrael asked as he sheathed his saber.
“No, it would be dangerous if you did it.. I’ll do it.” Raulas stood up from his throne and approached Karlen.
The loyal trio were about to protest but a glance from Raulas shut them up.
Karlen and Bayer stared at this man who seemed to emit an extremely holy and trustworthy aura and relaxed somewhat. The man smiled and floated his hand just above Karlens head.
