《One among others》Arc 2 Chap 10: Shooting range twist

Karin's fist moved like a bullet, stopping at a finger of her opponent's vulnerable guard. The wind following the attack moved strands of black hair around. Apprehensive blue eyes opened again. Camille's gaze met a gnashing Karin; never before the impetuous warrior had felt that bad. If something bothered her, she would have smashed it already. This time around, her primary problem-solving method was not working. The annoying insect was still busing in front of her. Bringing back her limb, Karin forcefully rubbed the back of her neck, giving a nasty look at the beginner.
- Not giving up yet?
Camille shook her hand before resuming her guard. Far away from the one taught by Kiel, she young noble had started to mimic her tormentor. Karin had noticed it right away, like the girl's leg shaking or her dilated pupils, but couldn't manage to make her stop. If the valag liked to brag about her strength, she had reason to do so. For two days straight, not even a fight had taken place between the two. Karin was lighting up the girl.
- Let's see how long before you gave up. She stated before closing the distance. Bleed and bite maggot!
Camille, eyes wide open, saw her dash forward. She had grown accustomed to Karin's attack pattern and knew what was coming. The next second, she was on the floor, the sky turning in all directions while an acute pain pulsated in her cheek.
- I want to go back home, she whispered while massaging herself. Right hook, was it?
Karin rolled her eyes; In her homeworld, the girl would have already been thrown into a dumpster. No real martial art master would have trained a lost cause. Yet, here she was as the noble would not abandon. Already, Camille was mimicking her guard again, which she took as a go. The valag threw a few feints before going for the actual attack. Her palm crashed in the middle of her opponent's chest. Camille spat out as she fell back to her knee, feeling her comrades' gaze on her. Some mocking, a few terrified, and none daring enough to try their luck against Karin.
She bit the bullet, ignoring the annoying presence and her inner voice screaming her to stop. If Karin had long stopped laughing, Camille was dying to deny her the privilege of making her give up. On her overheating body, she could feel the cold of her necklace. The piece of steel was like the last untouched part of her, a tiny fragment of her past pride.
- You alright, maggot? Got enough already? Mocked the bully. Need my help to get up?
Pulling on her tired harm, she got herself up. Karin, who had finally dared a stupid smile, froze before wincing. Camille had no idea what absurdity her foes could be thinking; she didn't care and rushed at her. The tall girl was not expecting the attack, but never she would be taken by surprise after their first spare. Stepping away, she pushed the girl to the ground, shaking her head after enjoying the fall. The cycle continued for some time, Karin using a different technique to take her to the floor each time. After twenty minutes, the young noble couldn't breathe properly anymore. Face against the tatami; she enjoyed the cold emanating from it.
- Is it over?
- Just a minute, she managed between two gasps. I need to rest a bit.
- What? Come on! Aren't you knacker already? Are you mad or something?
- Maybe…
Pain arose in her palm as she got up. With a muffled scream, Karin brought back her guard, quickly joined by Camille. The tall valag didn't even move, waiting for the girl who closed the distance. She grabbed her hand, stopping Camille in her course. Before that last could react, Karin reached for the girl's shirt with a grin. Gravity inverted as the tall girl pulled her above her shoulder, dropping her back on the ground. A violent kick connected between her ribs, voiding all hair from her lungs. Karin stepped away, a horrified look on the face.

- Sorry! I didn't mean to…
Even rolling in pain on the floor, Camille could hear the distress in the valag voice. If it didn't elevate the pain, knowing that Karin was looking at her with some lost puppies' eyes felt refreshing. Squeezing her hand in a fist, the valag crashed it on her jaw. Camille watched the show with a surprise hiccup. How could she do that to herself? As the girl was about to repeat, Camille stopped her with a scream.
- Stop that, retard!
Karin stopped her movement. Blinking as her mind processed Camille's words, her face returned to her natural ire.
- A retard? You are the wanker, maggot! You make me hit you again and again for nought! Steamed out the girl.
- That's not a reason to hit yourself like an idiot!
- Weiss, Osder, could you lower your voice. I am deeply pleased that you are getting along, but you are disturbing everyone.
- We are not getting along! They both answered at the same time.
Karin glared at the girl, who was now also stealing her reply.
- Please! Made this nonsense stop, master. I had enough of this, and she is just getting trashed around at this point. It's boring and useless for both of us.
Kiel turned away from the forty-height other trainees to face her two rogue students. Everyone had changed partner to someone more fitting of their skill. Only the two girls had remained together.
- Did you managed to teach something to Weiss?
- Well, now she uses her hand to break her fall. She even reacts before my attack, sometimes… She learned something, master.
Both red and blue eyes stared with amazement at the trainee who had just spoken her mind. Even the others stopped sparing to take glances at the valag. At this point, Camille and Kiel were unsure if the valag was playing them or a naïve teen. Kiel had taught many valag. Some had trouble accommodating with other races, but never to that extent.
- Wonderful, you should proceed with your schedule then. Take some time to share your experiment with your kindred. Their experience could help improve your teaching method.
Karin turned a puzzled look at her partner. Camille had remained mute since she started complaining and was not planning to take part in. She knew a problem existed, and it was not her.
- And you are not going to say anything?
- What am I supposed to say? Answered back Camille while rolling her eyes.
- By the bloodline, why do I even care about your opinion! Get in position! I need to punch something!
The two girls returned to their spare, only stopping when Kiel called out the end of the course. The Vlin'ns liked to talk a bit to her student, but today she had some obligation out of the base. Based on the woman's smile, Camille believed it was rather pleasant. Something to do with a sweet someone. The third day was almost coming to an end. They had already vanquished Lesskov's endless loop and Instructor Drayn's strategy class. The small and canny nog'lon had left a good impression on the girl, who waited with impatience for their next meeting.
The barrack was making their way to Sibelle shooting practice, which had taken the spot as the worse subject—soundly beating Lesskov painful bonus exercises. They shared the courses with Sibelle other barracks, the fourteens. They met their comrade half the way through the base. By their tired face, they knew Lesskov had been busy the last hour.
- You look better than yesterday Weiss. Muscle brain didn't punch you that bad today?

The boy reaching for her, one of the leaders of their sister barrack, had an insufferable grin on the face. Rising her eyebrow, Camille threw a disdainful gaze at the boy. Sevos was a gorilla without fur, or so through Camille when she had first met him. His short hair, frosted on the tips, made him look like a delinquent in the series Camille liked. Besides, some parts of his brain might have been removed. Sevos lacked any self-preservation, saying anything that crossed his mind. Even to the most dangerous people around, like Karin. She had become his favourite target in about a minute, her threats honey to his ears.
- What deserved that look? I'm not kidding. You look less blue than yesterday. Right, Tavis?
The boy punched his friend on the shoulder. The trainee William had nothing in common with his big-mouth friend. Dishing out a sigh of disbelief, he turned his spot-full face to the girl. With his spiky carrot hair and pale skin, one could take him for a nerd. However, his speech was neat and tidy, worthy of a noble.
- Give her a break and be tired like everyone, or next time Lesskov will give us twice to run.
- He looked quite pleased this morning, noted Ender. His mood changed that much?
- Terrible. At the slightest mistake, he punished us. Something was on his mind for sure, but what? Shrugged back, Tavis.
- Ho shit, what is Sibelle doing outside? Commented Sevos. She looks unhappy. It is contagious! We should run!
- Shut up, Sevos; they all spoke at the same time.
Forming rank in front of their teacher, they followed the traditional salute of the base. Sibelle turned her nasty eyes and long nose to them. She judged them sufficiently aligned to not start a rant on the importance of respect. Part Camille hated as the woman was not showing any for other instructors.
- Get to your place. Today, you will see how to clean your weapon. Once finished, you will start to practice your aim!
The news brought demoralize face on the trainees. Everyone enjoyed shooting targets; rebuilding a gun from nothing was far less interesting. The rows of trainees left the rank and sat all together around round tables. In front of each chair, a gun was waiting to be torn apart. The standard-issued pulse-smg, the Trakar mkII or traky for short, was the most common weapon carried by MEA pilot. Of course, the small gun was nothing but a last resort weapon if their armour went to fail. Many would not have the luck to pull it out. Still, it was an excellent weapon for a beginner. Camille's first encounter with the gun had not been exciting. Handling it wasn't easy, aiming the target even more. As everyone started to read the manual to dismount the traky, Gwen went to see their instructor. Sibelle's face went from witch to fairy godmother in a blink; she asked the girl to speak.
- Instructor, Could I try a sniper rifle today? I have a good understanding of the basics now.
- Of course, trainee! You were outstanding the two-last time. She sugars coted her. A shame all your comrade can't take their training that seriously. Weiss, instead of talking, go to the armoury and bring back a rail gun, the empirea model.
The girl who had not uttered a word since her arrival turned a lost gaze to the instructor. When she met the burning eyes, she jumped out of her seat and rushed outside. The armoury next to the shooting range stored most training weapons. The annex was close by a ten-centimetre-thick heavy door. Camille taped on the lock without any reaction. She had seen her instructor activate them by standing in front. Some also used their wrist; nothing worked for the trainee. With any other instructor, she would have returned and ask. She knew Sibelle would throw a tantrum and call her name again. Missing the first class had thrown the girl at the bottom of her esteem. Instead, the girl snooped around, looking for someone kind enough to help her. A meter away from the door, she stumbled into Lesskov. The man reacted with haste, stopping the trainee with a dark gaze.
- Trainee Weiss? I hope you are not skipping class on the third day.
- N-No Instructor. I was trying to get the armoury open. Major Sibelle asked me to get a rail gun for Gwen… trainee Devos.
The man frowned at the teen confession. His anger seemed to waver as he looked at the nearby gate.
- I tried everything but can't manage to open it. She justified herself, making him laugh.
- Of course, you can't. It's a god damn armoury. What were you thinking, Weiss? That every door would open to you?
- It didn't even react. I believed I was doing something wrong!
- You wearing Blue's necklace? Then you have your explanation.
Looking at the blue chip, she asked for an explanation from the veteran.
- It's made of ghost steel, a rare and unique metal. It disturbs surveillance cameras, optics, makes you invisible. In large quantities, it can even trouble human vision. Blue Dead is made from it.
- So, you are saying that I'm invisible?
- No, more probably just a heap of pixel or some distorted thermal image. The locked camera is not good enough to deal with that kind of disturbance. Follow me. I will open it for you. You still got beaten up today? Why choose a valag as a partner? Feeling arrogant?
- I didn't choose! Squeaked the girl. Kiel force me to stay with her!
The man's index hit against her forehead, making the girl flinch.
- Use the rank trainee. If someone heard you, I would have to punish you.
Camille clicked her tongue. Being bash away by Karin was less annoying than getting rebuked by Lesskov.
- I expected that kind of comportment from Lieutenant Kiel. She is a bit harsh at first; she learned from the worse after all.
- You and Blue?
- I was thinking about Pink, but it seems you have heard about the story. She must like you a lot… I should have guessed that she keeps you with Osder.
Camille had no idea where liking her, and Osder linked together but remained silent. While speaking, Lesskov had run his hand on the lock who displayed a healthy green. The screen showed a few pieces of information about the major. Camille managed to sneak a glance. A picture of a younger him bearing his mi-long dark hair. Next to his name, his rank was display. Camille couldn't recognize it, major being replaced by a few letters, HG. She couldn't look anymore, the heavy door splitting apart to reveal the inside. Rows of gun and ammunition were stored together. Camille recognized trakies; larger weapons were also present.
- A rail gun, you said.
- Yes, an empir-something model.
- Empirea? He repeated, rubbing his chin. That will not make it, not for Devos. She will break herself with the recoil. A particle thrower would fit her. What do you think about a SAPT?
- I have no clue what you are talking about.
The man was not listening and grabbed the weapon on a shelf before dropping it in Camille's hands. The sniper rifle was heavier and longer than her traky. Almost a meter and a half long, the barrel was glowing under the dim light. Above, a scope had been secured to help reach distant targets. She tried to shoulder the gun, knowing right away that kind of weapon was not mean for her. Through the scope, she could see the zoomed face of her instructor and an arctic glare.
- Don't point your weapon toward people, trainee! Not if you don't intend to kill them.
- Sorry, instructor. I wanted to use the scope...
- What I'm going to do with her, he chewed between his teeth.
He didn't intend to let the girl hear that; Camille's sharp ears managed to decipher the muffled sound. Lesskov grabbed a hand full of magazines and left toward the door. Camille hopped behind with the cumbersome gun. As they walked back to the shooting range, she kept staring at his back. The man who insulted her family at her birthday was now going easy on her, or so she believed. If anyone else had been with them, she would have a round for her money. Her mind full of questions, they reached the shooting range. Her comrades were still trying to reassemble their guns, Sibelle monitoring them passively. The woman in sight, Lesskov's relaxed face, was now a past. A single glare could have turned water to ice; Camille's lips were now sawed together.
- Lesskov and trainee Weiss? Can I have an explanation for your significant lateness?
- You send the girl to an armoury limited to validated trainees. If I had not walked into her, she would still be looking for a way to open it. Realy unprofessional of yours.
If Lesskov's voice remained as cold as ever, the tension was enough to make the girl's hairs raised. She stood like a bystander in the electric atmosphere, an excuse for the two strife. Nothing more than a civilian in the middle of a battle.
- This is no excuse. She should have return faster.
- Of course, you are such an example of virtue, Major. Much like your higher up who refuse to see me. He scorned before turning to the teen. You don't have to stand like a pole. Return to your comrade and ask them about what they have missed.
- Yesss instructor, stuttered Camille before excusing herself with a small bow. Sorry for being late.
The second agreed with a snort before focusing again on her opponent. Camille sprinted away from the incoming carnage, jumping back on her seat while dropping the sniper in front of Gwen. Once done, she allowed herself a sigh of relief.
- What are they talking about?
- Are they going to fight?
- What have you heard?
Everyone at her table had turned to her, curious about the distant showdown. The numerous pair of eyes made Camille hesitate; never that problem had occurred before.
- I didn't hear much. As soon as we arrived, they jumped at each other throat, using me as a context. I heard him talk about their higher up. He wants to speak with him.
- Maybe something to do with a new directive. Proposed Mijuu, the dark-skinned girl who had become Gwen's new sparing partner. I hear Kiel talk about it during combat practice. She was also super offended.
- What are they about?
- Make most military discipline more competitive. Skyhand, the best school, uses this system. They have the best result.
- Why would the old crust care about it? Answered back the self-assured Tavis. He doesn't have anything to do with that.
- This is where you are wrong, William. Stopped Ender. Lesskov is a considerable authority in the base. He rivals with the base commander, and many veterans would instead follow him.
- Why is that a thing? Questioned Gwen while removing her particle thrower barrel. The commander is also a veteran, no?
- Not the same kind. The closer he was to the fire of war was the safety of orbit. Eluded back the nog'lon.
- A coward, Like that puny vlin'ns! Commented Karin. Why do we call this shooting practice if we build guns instead? They don't even give us real ones! They don't shoot powerful laser!
- Probably because they don't want some brain-damaged valag to shoot other trainees. Mocked Mijuu, her gun already completed in front of her. Giving real guns to newbies is just stupid.
Camille watched with stars in her eyes as the girl started over. Mijuu was smaller than her, her lovely face crimped with iridescent opal. Her almond eyes highlighted her jewel of a gaze, her thin cherry lips secured in a confident smile. With one hand, she was playing with her dreadlock, tied together in a ponytail. With the other, she was building back the maze of endless possibility. The young noble had barely started hers and had already trouble with the multiple gun's parts.
- You already finished… You are amazing!
- Of course, I am! It's normal for me to know how to reassemble and clean a gun, Laughed the dark-skinned girl.
Camille interrogated her with a gaze. How was it normal for a teenager to possess that kind of knowledge? Tavis dropped a sigh of disbelief as everyone was sharing the girl's lack of culture.
- She is Mijuu Toshiko! Winner of two junior inter-solar shooting tournaments and finalist in a few others. Does it ring a bell?
Camille shook her head. Watching sport was more of punishment in her old life.
- Some of you do know me, reacted the girl with a smile like a watermelon slice. I never imagined being famous out of my word. Who am I talking with?
- Tavis William, Skeron II governor's son. I watched some of your matches last year, with my father.
- You don't seem to like him. Noted Gwen with interest. Why?
The tactless girl received six serious gazes. Even Karin had understood the boy had rather not talked about it. Tavis rolled his shoulder before answering the girl.
- My father tried to become a noble before my thirteen birthdays. As you may understand, he didn't succeed.
- Something to do with your mother? Asked Camille with a small voice, waiting for the boy's reaction.
As everyone turned to her for some explanation, Camille huddled herself on her chair.
- I heard Tavis mother was not human. The union between his parent was not supposed to append.
- My mother is a vlin'ns, a sub-member of the imperial family. She was not exactly supposed to marry a human. But that's not important, how do you know that?
- It was a big scandal. I remember my father was running everywhere while calling all his contact. He was annoyed that day. He supported your father's ascension, something to do with factories… Why are you all looking at me like that!
- She needs an explanation to do a push-up, can't recognize a famous sportive, but can tell the story of some random governor. Stupidly brilliant Camille, laughed Ender.
Tavis, who had frozen after the girl revelation, came back to life.
- Your name is Weiss! Camille Weiss like the Weiss from Earth? The noble Weiss?
Camille nodded back. The boy's jaw dropped, making his cute face look pretty stupid.
- Please, Tavis, don't Weiss our time.
- Shut up, Sevos! I need to understand. You are noble kind; you are not supposed to be here.
- I'm also a noble! Jumped back in Gwen. Gwenaëlle Devos from Earth too!
- The granddaughter of the Consul? Choked Tavis.
- Solar is my great-grandfather. But I don't see him often.
- Me who thought I was famous, winced Mijuu. Why do nobles send their kid to the military? Are you not supposed to be left out of the draft?
- They don't send them. They choose to join, idiot. Answered Tavis for the girls. Why those two are doing here is another story, you don't seem fit for the military.
- But it's cool to be a soldier!
Ender, who anticipated Gwen's answer, was already laughing. Tavis, on his side, rolled his eyes. The governor's son never liked nobles' kids; they missed every quality expected from a ruler. He was fitter to govern the federation, and Gwen confirmed it again.
- And maggot call me a retard! Do you have anything in that head of yours? Exclaimed Karin. You can die at any moment, Twig. What will you do when that chubby face is covered in blood?
- It's my choice! You don't have anything to say about it! And I'm not chubby!
Grumbling between her teeth, Gwen turned back her attention to her new rifle. As the girl was not about to give any more answer, they turned to the second noble; Ready to judge her reason.
- I didn't choose to come. I received a letter like most of you.
- Not possible, stopped Tavis. You are lying.
Camille answered the attack with a glare. If she had trouble putting herself in front of the scene since she arrived, she was not the kind to let herself get stepped on, especially by a boy like Tavis.
- I would be glad if you were right. I would not have to listen to you if it was the case.
He seemed not convinced, but without evidence, he could not expose anything. He remained silent and kept observing the dark-haired girl. The atmosphere turned gloomy. Both nobles were barely raising their head to watch their holo-screen in search of instruction. At the left of the table, Sevos tattered on his chair. Since his friend had executed him for his joke, he had remained silent, watching the duel between his superior. Sibelle would shake her head every ten seconds or so, Lesskov face would twist more. Only a bath of liquid azote would have cooled the veteran. Sibelle holding against the hurricane had something impressive. A tail of a dwarf fighting a giant.
- Perfect! Vociferated Lesskov, scaring off every trainee. Tell Commander Extrins if he doesn't come to explain to me. I will be the one to visit him! Can you at least do that for me, major?
Sibelle stepped back, agreeing with an exaggerated nod. Lesskov did not wander, a brief salute, and left without any more word to the woman. As he walked to the door, Sibelle stabbed daggers in his back, restraining herself not to shoot him.
- I wonder why they hate each other so much?
Tavis agreed with Mijuu. Like Sevos, the girl had been doing nothing but watch them for the past minutes. Ender's knowledge came on point, and he started explaining the subject of their discord.
- Before coming, my family told me about it. Five years ago, they tried to remove all the older officers from the base. They were no base's commander before that time; Lesskov and Kiel were the highest authority.
- And Sibelle came after, completed the sharp-shooter.
- Yes, with that guy, Extrins. Maybe you have seen him before, a short human with grey hair and a big belly.
The description didn't ring a bell in Camille's mind. Some of her comrades nodded back to the description.
- So Lesskov is jealous because he is no longer the chief of the base? I can understand.
- I don't think Lesskov is that kind of man, answered Camille. It must be another motive, more impactful.
- Your guess, noble girl. We need fact.
Tavis had become annoying, the short exchange not lighting him in her esteem. She did not answer him, focusing her mind on the skeleton of a weapon in front of her. If the plan helped her a lot, reassembling a gun was more challenging than she could have thought. The core part of the pulse-smg had to be thoroughly clean before going back to their place. The job Asked precision, thoroughness, and a great bag of knowledge from the trainee. The exercise was not supposed to be easy but learn with each passing day. Sibelle was not following the program and turned to the mindful girl when she had a second free.
- Trainee Weiss! Sibelle's wicked voice ringed just above her. Are you not finished yet?
Camille was almost done, like many of her comrades who had started earlier.
- I'm going as fast as I can, instructor.
- Can't you just follow the demonstration I did at the beginning?
- But, you send me at the armoury. She sputtered as a last defence against the evil woman. Nobody told me about it…
- Throwing back your fault on your comrade is a shameful act, trainee. You are responsible for your failure!
- I…
- There is no excuse!
The young noble stood silent, eyes fixed on the weapon while tears slowly flooded her vision. She would have traded the moment for anything; even Karin's fists were soft compared to the tyrannical woman.
- Now, act like a soldier and finish your assignment. We are already halfway through the courses!
- Yes, instructor. She managed, throb in the voice. I will try.
- I did not ask to try but to do.
As she left, Camille's gaze bumped into Mijuu. The experienced shooter had been slacking off the course, waiting for the last minute to present her work. Her almond eyes wide open, she stared at the instructor looking for a reason for her wrath.
- Are you alright?
- Are you really asking? Slowly spoke Camille while drying her tears.
- Sorry, it was stupid. What is her problem? She was half decent at her job. I. I totally changed my mind. Do you want some help?
Camille turned to the mess in front of her, letting out a painful moan. Sliding on the table, Mijuu sat next to her and grabbed the almost complete gun.
- It good, really good. You cleaned everything carefully, and the energy core is complete. We can go back to the beginning; I'll show you everything and give you some tips.
Agreeing to the girl's proposal, they spent the next twenty minutes together. Mijuu knew the subject on the tips of the finger. Without even an effort, she managed to illustrate the fastest way to dislocate the weapon, clean and reassemble it. Each time, she demonstrated her technique to do it faster than everyone else. Under the girl's guidance, Camille managed to bring back the maze of parts to its initial state in half the time she had taken before. Mijuu didn't stop here and made her do it again. Recording all the information, she saved them on Camille's holo-screen. Managing to do it perfectly on her first try, she left her seat with a smile on the face. She was about to show her accomplishment to the instructor; the woman only focused on Gwen. The girl's natural talent was indisputable, and even Mijuu recognised it. Of course, Gwen was in paradise, smiling and joking with all the trainees watching her.
- Seriously, you two are not from the same place. How can you be so lovely and her so annoying? Spat the girl while giving a sullen look at Gwen.
- You say that because she shoots well?
- No! Look at her! I could also be showing off with a particle thrower. Lucky Lesskov brought that back. I would have paid to see her dislocate her shoulder with a rail gun's recoil. Let's shoot a bit; Sibelle doesn't care anyway.
The two girls reached for the shooting range, Mijuu throwing an energy cell to her partner when they arrived. Loading the weapon with expectation, Mijuu removed the safety, booting up the gun. Stock on the shoulder, she aligned herself with the optic. Camille jolted when the turquoise stream left the barrel. The wave of burning energy crashed with the target located at a long fifty meters from them. Each shot landed with precision, almost pinpoint at the centre of the body. Once the magazine empty, she pulled it down and left it on the stand. Turning toward Camille, she invited her to do the same.
- Don't laugh, please.
Struggling a bit to remove the safety, she ready her traky. The buzzing of energy was thrilling, even for someone who had never dreamed of holding a weapon. Taking her time, she aimed for the target, not daring enough to try to aim for something specific. She pulled the trigger, hitting ten centimetres away from anything. Camille wince as the recoil hit her shoulder. Laser weapon was not supposed to have any; some wicked instructor added it to train the new soldier. After watching Mijuu ace her full clip, she had not expected it to be so difficult. Trying again, she took a few shots before reaching for the target. She turned a happy face to her comrade; The girl was trying not to laugh.
- Come on!
- Sorry! It's just too funny!
- I am trying my best…
- I know. It's good. Do you think I could shoot a fifty-meter target whenever I started? Watered down the girl. Now, if you want to improve, you will need to listen to me.
Mijuu spent the rest of the course helping the girl out. Changing everything from Camille's position to the way she aimed. In the end, Camille was more than capable enough to hit the target every time, just never where she wanted. If the course was terrible, shooting was soothing—even more after she started to imagine Sibelle as her target, Increasing her precision again. When the class finished, Sibelle's burning gaze was following the girl everywhere. The instructor looked for a way to punish Camille, Shielded by Mijuu, who had committed the same fault.
In the end, she allowed the girls to leave without another sermon. Promising herself to find a way to punish the insolent teenager another time.

This is the story of a person from a desolate and bleak future who dies and reincarnates into a fantasy world of swords and magic and finds meaning in his meaningless existence. -- Notes --- This story is told from multiple povs, I think I've made it obvious when the pov change has happened.- This site doesn't really have a specific tag for it so I'll add it in the synopsis, the romance in this story is incest.- I do all the writing and proofreading, so if you see some mistakes I've missed please point them out.- The beginning is more world-building and setting up the plot and mechanics so don't expect too much action in the first ark.
