"Oy Boris! How ya doin that? Who has what wrong?" the patrons in the bar were getting closer and this caused Xopil to panic a bit.

"Stay back! The inn is closing early tonight!" Boris was already having a hard enough time breathing before Xopil tightened his grip.

Xopil eyed the patrons as they slowly backed away and orderly exited the building. Now that Xopil and Boris were alone, he released his death grip on Boris, and pushed him down on the seat. "All right. What the hell did you do to me?"

Boris silently sat there, he picked up the utensils and absent-mindedly started eating. "Many years ago, this world, or more accurately this dimension, collided with another. This caused many strange phenomena, lots of things changed in a myriad of ways, I don't know how other places were affected. This building for example, ye think I had something to do with yer worsening state. That's well... partly true."

Xopil stared unmoving at Boris, "And what? This is a bit much to believe."

"But ye do believe it. Ye've already been affected by it." Boris continued to eat, "As I was saying, this building is special. The upstairs isn't enchanted... it's more of a gateway left behind by the dimensional collide. Naturally it is unstable, and it affects people in different ways. The townsfolk are... well, it's tough to say exactly. They aren't capable to get angry, sad, or happy anymore. They just exist... they're barely even excitable anymore, but ye managed to get them interested in something didn't ye? That makes ye special. Maybe even a threat."

"A threat... you say? To what?" Xopil picked up the mug and took a gulp.

"Who can say? I don't rightly know what caused the dimensional collide, if it was intentional or not, but it did affect us, and continues to." Boris leaned forward on the table. "For example, my ledger. Ye said this is yer second visit?"

"That's right."

"I've written down every guest as has stayed here. Yet, yer name is only written once, and that was just earlier tonight. I had completely forgotten ye when ye left this morning, further, so has my ledger. But for this." Boris pulled out a silver coin from his pocket. "I didn't know how I got this till ye said so."

"You're telling me this whole world is messed up? And I'm what, able to reverse this mess?"

Boris eyed Xopil up and down, "Nah, I doubt ye have it in ya. But ye can try anyway."

"...Well, thanks for the honest opinion."

Boris rose from the seat and retrieved his ledger from behind the counter. Upon his return to the table, he dropped the book in front of Xopil.

Xopil raised an inquisitive eye, and when he touched the ledger a sharp pain entered his mind. "What the hell was that?"

"Dunno." Boris took the book and casually flipped it open to the last used page, placing the book in front of Xopil. "I write a name, this book determines the door key that appears."

"Yesterday it was 24. Now it's 39. What do you know about the rooms?" Xopil asked.

"Can't say, I'm not allowed in." replied Boris. "I just write names and hand out keys. Innkeeper...It is my purp..."

"This is not The Matrix." Xopil shook his head pitifully. "Have you considered writing your own name in the ledger?"

"Eh? Why would I do that? I have my own room."

Xopil smirked, "Humor me."
