《KFC》Chapter 21: A new mission

Princess Chen lay in her bed crying her eyes out. She thought about it over and over again. If not for her then they never would have met the Emperor. If they never met with the Emperor then Zi Chyou would never have died to the man sent to test Tea Dubuya. Unlike her husband, she knew just how much Zi Chyou meant to Fairy Bai.
Bai Xiao Yin came back to the house a few hours later and didn't see Princess Chen. She just assumed the older woman wanted some alone time and let her be. Instead, she busied herself by making dinner for the three of them. Cooking wasn't her strong point, but Tea Dubuya was busy talking with the men of the sect. As the smell of cooking food reached the Princess she decided to come out and face Fairy Bai's wrath.
Princess Chen timidly made her way into the dining room and sat down next to Fairy Bai. She was afraid to raise her head and look into Fairy Bai's eyes. Surprisingly Fairy Bai took her hand and asked, "How are you feeling? Do you want to talk about it?"
Princess Chen looked up and shook her head, "I'm so sorry, I feel like this is all my fault."
Fairy Bai nodded and then said, "Well, it's not your fault at all." She leaned over and touched her head against Princess Chen's and said softly, "Our man is a great man. It was only a matter of time before this sort of thing was bound to happen. All we can do is try to keep up with him. Cultivate and raise our strength so we won't become his weakness."
Princess Chen sobbed softly trying to be as strong as Fairy Bai, "How can you be like this, you of all people should be a mess."
"I am a mess, Chen'er. Zi Chyou came to me in her Nascent Soul form and I was able to say a proper goodbye. Which helped. More important than that though, I have to be strong for the baby." Fairy Bai squeezed Princess Chen's hand.
"You... You mean you're..." Princess Chen covered her mouth.
Fairy Bai nodded and gave a slight smile, "So, you have to be brave too, we'll soon have impressionable young eyes and ears observing us."

The two women hugged and cried with both sadness at their loss and in happiness for the joy of a new child soon to join the family.
Trampas headed to Yuta's tower when a familiar message appeared in his vision.
[Mission: Learn the Blood Sword Sect's Kung Fu]
[You must learn the 5 techniques of the Blood Sword Sect]
[Reward 1000 system store points per Martial Art]
[Time remaining: 3 months 29 days 23 hours 59 minutes]
Trampas cursed softly and ran to Yuta's tower. "Hey, Yuta I need your help, man."
Yuta was reading a manga when Trampas popped in his tower's loft. "Hey, TW, what's up?"
"The system gave me four months to learn the Blood Sword Sect's 5 martial arts."
Yuta whistled and then said, "It takes most of my sect's disciples years to learn them, and these are people who already know some martial arts." Yuta got out of his chair and walked over to a shelf and took out 5 booklets. "Here, read these, if you have any questions I can try my best to help you out. I recommend going down to the training grounds and watching your junior apprentice brothers and sisters going through the forms of these martial arts."
Trampas gave Yuta a high five and then said, "Thank you brother, this is just what I need."
Trampas then raced back to his house with the booklets. When he came through the door Princess Chen and Fairy Bai were sitting at the table having dinner. He walked over and washed his hands and then sat at the table with the two women who were looking at him strangely. "What?"
Princess Chen looked at Fairy Bai who answered, "It's nothing bad, it's just that you've changed a little."
"Oh? Well, then I won't mind none." He sat down and helped himself to some rice and then the ladies each put some of the dishes into his bowl. "I need to learn the sect's martial arts, Chen'er you'll come with me and learn too, Yin Yin, just cultivate here, I don't want you to do anything that will affect our baby."
"Do you think we'll have to worry about my father sending any more people?" Princess Chen asked.

Trampas shook his head, "No, I don't think he was looking to harm you three at all, I think that guy just went off the reservation."
"Huh?" Princess Chen and Fairy Bai asked out loud together.
"It means, that it was an unplanned reaction not a planned event." Trampas thought for a moment and then added, "Chen'er, you'll need to keep meeting with your father for the time being, I know it's going to be hard, but don't blame him to his face."
She frowned and looked miserable, "I don't know if I can fake being happy to see him."
"He'll understand your grief, just make small talk and stay in his good graces. The last thing we need or want is more attacks on our family, right?" Trampas placed his hands flat on the table and said, "I never saw myself as a family man, when a wife was pushed on me, I thought it was fun cause Yin Yin is such an amazing woman, and then the rest of you came into the picture and I was just blinded by all sex. With a baby on the way, I just feel this pressure to establish something greater for you all. I want a place for our kids in this world that's more than just four walls and a roof."
Princess Chen tilted her head slightly, "What do you mean Tea Dubuya?"
"The others from my world are all leaders of the great sects or the Emperor himself, right? That's what I am talking about. We were given these powers for a reason that the systems haven't let us know about, which makes me wonder if we weren't really sent here for a higher purpose than just establishing some karate sects or ruling the world." Trampas drummed his fingers on the table and said, "In epic stories there are epic villains. World ending kinds of villains. Now, I'm not trying to say I was placed here to save the world, but I can't help but wonder if I wasn't part of a much bigger plan. There was this movie I saw back in 2002 called Spider-Man, don't worry about the movie part that's too hard to explain, the point was they said something in that movie that stuck with me. With great power comes great responsibility. The way I see it, the three of us have great power."
The girls nodded and then Princess Chen said, "I think I understand, you are saying that the System Sect gives you these missions in order to prepare you for that responsibility?"
"Yeah, that's it. And I reckon, y'all are part of that now." Trampas nodded.
Fairy Bai thought for a moment and then said, "Tea Dubuya, we your wives will help you in any way we can, even if that means staying out of the way when the trouble comes for us."
Princess Chen nodded in agreement and added, "Are you thinking we should start a sect as well?"
Trampas looked at the table a while and then said, "Lets have our wedding, meet the others from my world and then see what still needs doing in this world. They have been here a very long time, I've only been here not even a couple of months. I don't think I am the kind of man that can figure out the problems other people couldn't. I'll be honest with y'all... I was a loser back in my world. I don't mean to scare y'all, but yeah I wasn't the smartest. The fastest. The strongest. I was pretty much the bottom of the barrel. This world is gonna be in a lot of trouble if it needs me of all people to set it right."
Princess Chen and Fairy Bai exchanged a worried look.
"I wasn't the best or brightest, but you know what I did have? Can do it attitude. What I mean by that is that no matter what I faced in my day to day life, I always tried my best. My best there wasn't good enough, but with this system here helping me and this cultivation crap? My best is pretty fucking good right now."

Dungeons Are Bad Business
Vee Vales has been kicked out of his home and directed to make his own way in the world. Along with his friend Alforde Armorsoul, Vee travels to the city of Oar's Crest. Once a prosperous and well-to-do city, Oar's Crest has fallen into depression and disrepair. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: Dungeons are Bad Business (DABB) is a slow burn slice-of-life dungeon core litRPG citybuilder that's focused on the day to day experience of running a dungeon. There will be some action, but it won't be the focus of the story and Vee and his friends will usually overcome their problems with their minds and their pocketbooks instead of their weapons. Since I'm participating in the writeathon, I will probably be uploading chapters almost daily for the duration of the event. Thanks for reading!

Paternum: A Superhero Story
When Quinn finds an experimental superpower-granting costume in their parents’ attic, they didn’t expect to be drawn into a web of superhuman intrigue, but their discovery serves as the catalyst for that conspiracy to slowly unravel. At it’s heart, Paternum is an extended coming-of-age story for the main character as they become a superhero, in a world with more reasonable stakes and less powerful heroes than many superheroic worlds. Themes include what art means to different people, and what it means to be a patron, whether as a sponsor, a parent, or a supporter. I consider Paternum‘s primary influences to be the various versions of Spider-Man, J. C. McCrae’s own superhero story Worm, and Drew Hayes’ story SuperPowereds. I hope that fans of such stories can find something to enjoy in mine as well. Paternum is primarily hosted on my website (thevoidwrites.com) where it updates weekly in groups of scenes totalling approximately 2000 words. Here on Royal Road, it will update once daily with one scene at a time, but only after each act is completed on the home site - the next batch of updates is scheduled to begin on February 5th. There is a discord channel for discussion (discordapp.com/invite/QFMM6yA), and you can vote for Paternum on topwebfiction (topwebfiction.com/vote.php?for=paternum) as well. Finally, you can buy the first book of Paternum, The Swift Uplifting Rush, in a couple different ways - as an ebook through Amazon, or directly from me for a discounted price, or as a physical paperback from Amazon. Buying the book will give you access to Drawing Hands, an exclusive arc that won't ever be published on either my site or Royal Road.
