《Criminal Lord》Chapter 1. Trial of The Criminal Lord

Game over…

Due to the death of the user, the user may now choose between two options: Hell or Trial.

Oh man... I never knew that such a thing existed. So I really died... how sad. Such was my destiny since I wasn't truly the heartless bastard everyone thought I was. Even so, becoming heartless after betrayal would ruin me and I'm not some movie character with a sad backstory. Still, after everything I've been through, what a shame that I would be treated in such a way by the one I counted on. Either way, now that I'm faced with a choice, I would much rather be given another chance than to resign myself so do I just push this button?

Ding!

Deciding Trial…

Trial chosen, Trial of the one who has attempted to break the system of society through sheer power, skill, effort, and immense resolve, activating the Trial of the Criminal Lord.

In order to complete this trial and be sent back to your world, you must prove that you can achieve your failed goals in this world instead. Time limit=5 years. Conditions of return may be negotiated after trial completion.

Again, WTF, Terry thought. After everything I’ve done, I end in failure, why do those trying to make the world a better place always get f*cked over? Even so, I expected something like this for somebody who could only kill to get his way.

Due to the high level of the trial, the taker of the trial shall be updated in order to have a suitable body.

Tch, only now do I realize that I was in over my head and doomed to fail, even with all these 'stats' and 'skills' I will likely fail. Haah, I guess that I should simply do what I can and repeat myself as there's nothing else I can really do.

Now that updating has been taken care of, the Trial of the Criminal Lord will begin shortly…

Terry became covered in darkness and shut his eyes in response.

[Class Vampire Lord will not begin until the condition(s) are met. As such, a Pseudo Body has been made to not stand out]

“Oh, we have another failed hero, what a shame. He’s big but weak, lacks any magic, and his skin looks so pale. This one looks about to die any minute. The only thing unique about him is his height,” said a voice.

“Don’t worry, his weakness and size will make him all the better to serve as experience for the heroes with an actual future,” responded another voice.

WTF, Terry thought, beginning to open his eyelids to reveal two light skinned men in long white robes. Also, Terry stood in a room surrounded by 50 people in small little compartments built into the walls, standing upright. The people were of all different ethnicities and looks. Some black, some white, some brown, some ginger, and some asian. Their heights ranged from 4’5” at the least, to 7’2” at the max. Strangely enough though, all the people in the room had ages ranging from 20 to 30 years, or at least that's how they looked. Which meant that Terry was the oldest person in the room at 47 years of age.

Wait, Terry thought. What happened to the world!??! Terry looked side to side without moving so much as an inch from any other part of his body. The world had become all colorful. Everyone in the room looked... animated?

The day kept throwing surprises at Terry. He attempted to look at his body but realized that he was restrained. I’ll think about what’s wrong with the world later, right now I need to figure out what I’m doing restrained in some small capsule, Terry thought.

Terry looked over the men and then the table that the men stood by. There were just syringes with long, thin needles. No scalpels, no scissors, no knives. They were of little or no harm, so Terry decided to stay put for the time being.

“Oh, one of them is awake,” started the men as they began looking at the black man who measured 7’2”, writhing around in the black pieces of cloth that were used to restrain everyone else in the room.

“Since he is the first to awaken, he must have a high resistance to magic, he will become very strong in the future,” said one of the men.

“Loosen the restraints on him, we don’t want him to grow restless,” said one of the men to the other.

The man walked over to a small button raised in the center of the room and pressed it.

“Argh!” yelled the black man as he fell to the ground with barely an inch protecting him from a smashed nose before he stopped his fall with his hands at remarkable reaction speed. So much so, that that level of speed had taken Terry a full year to master. It seemed there was a martial artist or experienced assassin other than him in this weird place. The restraints fastened to Terry loosened the instant the click of the button rang through the air.

Unlike the black man who had been attempting to free himself, those who stayed still merely slid against the back of their section and sunk to the floor. Naturally since Terry didn’t struggle, he had a similar response.

“Why the hell do you always loosen their restraints all at once? Just loosen them one at a time when they begin to struggle,” said one of the white men annoyed.

“This makes it faster. I’ve told you numerous times before,” responded the other man in a similar tone.

“Still, we don’t want them to start running around and screaming the first chance they get,” complained the first man.

“And again, I can just restrain them if it comes to that,” snapped the other man.

“Well, in any case, they’re waking up.”

“Huh, I’m on the ground, what kinda dream is this?” said a thin, brown haired guy. He wore a pair of red sunglasses, the lenses included, although only the outside was red, he probably saw like normal sunglasses.

Terry took a moment to look around freely while acting oblivious to what was going on in order to avoid suspicion. After all, Terry would often say in infiltration, “If you are thought weak, act weak, and when your opponent becomes weak, release your strength and kill them.”

Everyone in the room save for the coated men, wore a set of simple white t-shirts and white pants while there were some with accessories of sorts. The whole room was colored white with the darkest things being the restraints and black people. Terry took a moment to survey himself while saying things like, “Where am ?, What am I doing here?” to start and he began improving his questions with the responses of others to, “I died, why am I here?” or “Is this heaven?” which Terry knew the answer to already. This place was neither heaven nor hell, but to Terry, that merely meant he needed to assassinate somebody somewhere other than earth. And the tools he would need were those “skills, and class” or some such. But information was always more important than the assassination itself, and Terry knew nothing at the moment.

Damn, my body is hella light, I feel like I could run for hours on end, Terry thought. This place must have some f*cked up physics which were those 'stats'. Well, I guess I can’t really do much about that now and should instead figure what's going on. Terry took a look at the robed men and attempted to figure their motives in what was going to happen.

[activating Read Minds]

So, there are 50 heroes, now just to get them to fight for us. I sure hope that they’re easy to control but most heroes are fools who commit suicide or have played those ‘video games’ or something. We just need to point out a ‘monster’ and they’ll happily slaughter anything we say. And for those who need more persuasion we can just have a princess seduce them into a loyal dog. Now, they should awaken soon enough for the aptitude test. And then we just recruit the exceptional and use the failures as food in the cave and allow them to be left alone and be used to be turned into experience. Well then, if they are lucky enough, they might be able to escape. If only I could see inside the cave and watch them filled with despair.

[Magic has been depleted]

Dafuq? Terry thought. I never thought I’d be able to read minds, this is pretty cool although I wish it didn’t stop me, I could’ve learned quite a bit from inside that dudes head. Well, I learned plenty, a perfect way to escape this place. I work better alone anyway. And if I don’t leave this place quickly, from the sound of things in that guys head, I’m gonna want to slaughter everyone here within seconds. Except of course, those who haven’t gotten up yet, getting sent to this place apparently has a chance of failure. Those robed dudes are trying hard to say that the people on the ground are still asleep even though they’re just a corpse that hasn’t begun to decay. Heh, this is hilarious.

Still, now that I can read minds, I can easily determine friend from foe and I likely won't even need to interrogate anybody. In fact, I can drop torturing altogether and use it only to punish people. Damn, this world just gets crazier and crazier.

The next 10 minutes or so started with many people saying either,

“Where am I?” or “what the f*ck is happening?” depending on how vulgar they were. Then began the explanations from the robed men which went something like this.

“Sup homies, you guys have been given a chance by us to relive life and become a hero that saves this world from demons and monsters that terrorize this world. We need your strength to commit genocide. You might notice that your bodies have been jacked up on steroids and made you into your prime age, but don’t worry, it has been done to make you live life to the fullest. Just so you know, this totally isn’t just some sh*t storyline that we came up with to save time so that we can actually just use you as a realistic purpose of enslaving you all as soldiers. Nothing like that at all, we are very trustworthy people of another world or something that actually need your help in order to save our world while making you all super strong and stuff.”

The next 30 minutes were given for people to calm down and socialize with fellow heroes within the first ten of which, people took a moment to just calm down and attempt to realize what was going on. Terry studied the entire room top to bottom and even studied the restraints. He also studied all of the other people in the room and while doing so, an icon saying

[Appraisal will not activate since magic has been depleted, wait a full day before skills can work properly and magic syncs with the current world body]

Terry realized any further studying of the room would be a waste if he just needed to wait a day before retrying and decided to socialize with the other people and find info that way. But first, Terry took his time looking at his body. His body hadn’t changed much other than facial hair and nails but one thing did change enormously. Terry was fat. All of his hard-earned muscle had been transformed into fat. Terry looked at his arms that once had numerous pounds of raw muscle and saw only flab.

No f*cking way! Terry thought. I won’t accept the loss of all that hard work!

Terry felt his body maddeningly and then began to cry.

“Are you feeling alright?” asked a robed man to Terry.

“My muscle, it’s, it’s all gone,” said Terry, barely controlling his speech.

“Well then, don't worry, you’ll have a chance to make yourself much stronger,” said the robed man, attempting to sympathize while hiding an annoyed sigh.

“Hell yeah, this is a dream! I even have a fit body now and some serious muscle. I’m not the pig I used to be! I wonder if my package is big too! The best part is that I can feel everything here! I'll revel in this!” yelled a man who was around half of Terry’s size. The man had dark blue eyes and light brown hair which was a hell of a combo. The man began eyeing all the women and began to grab the white pants he wore. Everyone knew what this meant but compared to the other people, he was pretty big and everyone was merely studying the situation.

The robed men just watched as well, as if they wanted this to happen.

Terry began to frown. If only I didn’t need to maintain this cover as a worthless fatass. I wish I could release all of my anger on something. But I must remain calm and let them think me weak and slaughter them when I get the chance.

Terry felt uncomfortable but liked his new body which was large and fat yet strong and sturdy as Terry could feel. Terry noticed that his new body served as a sort of disguise which made him seem very weak and unfit while he had incredible strength and energy. Possibly making Terry one of the physically strongest men compared to those from Earth. However, in the new world, Terry had no idea how he stood. Terry now had long, black hair that reached down his tall back. He had a slightly shaved mustache and a similar beard of black hair.

“Please refrain from such things. We are human beings and not animals. Act like one,” said the black man as he walked over to the man pulling his pants and grabbed his arm in a vice grip.

The black man loomed over the other man like a tree about to fall and crush him at any moment. The other man shivered like grass dancing in the wind.

“Well, don’t you can scare me, you damn-”

“That’s enough of that,” said one of the robed men as the same black material used to restrain everyone before, came from his sleeve and wrapped around the man as he was pulled towards one of the robed men.

“Tsukumo, I’ll take this one away for his foul behavior so watch over the rest,” said the robed man as he took away a struggling man who was far too weak for Terry to ask his name. Unlike the tall, muscular, black man who demonstrated himself as a strong person. The incident was an interview of sorts to see who was ‘valuable’ to the robed men and whoever they served.

“Considering how you’re the number one here, I thought I might ask your name,” Terry said to the black man before anyone else had the chance.

“Considering how you’re the only person bigger than me, I’d be glad to introduce myself. My name is Ali,” said the black man as he reached out his hand to shake.

“Muslim? then asalamu-alaykum,” Terry said shaking the man’s hand.

“Walaikum as salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh!” responded the black man with a beaming smile.

Terry loosened his grip as much as possible in order to keep up his little charade of him being weak. Feeling the immense weakness from such a big man, the black man responded fiercely.

“I can see that you cannot protect yourself with your lack of muscle and such ice cold hands as if you were sick. If you ever need anything, just ask me for help. You’re my muslim brother and I will protect you with my life,” continued the black man.

“Of course, Terry said,” Terry wasn’t a muslim but knew much about the way of life. One thing was for sure, while this man wasn’t truly a friend, he was most certainly not an enemy. In fact, Terry could possibly use him, or at least his religious side. If they ever met again…

After the time for socializing had passed, the people had formed groups. Most groups were simple connections like other religions, people who like sports, but one that struck Terry as a surprise was that a group of nearly 30 people had formed which was more than half of the entire group. Terry listened in as they seemed abnormally happy and understanding of what was going on. Very few of the group had any muscles to show and when Terry looked at them, one word came to mind. Useless bystanders. The group spoke a lot and seemed very excited but the one word Terry heard the most was 'Isekai'.

F*ck! Terry thought. I never thought I’d hear that again.

“Don’t worry Terry, I may die here, but that just means I can isekai to some awesome anime and live my life in peace, away from all this ruin and death. I’m sorry that those are my last words, but still, I have nothing else to die for. You were my only reason to live, and anime, but still I hope you achieve your dream and make-” Terry enjoyed his moment of nostalgia, but pushed from his mind before he got pissed again. This is seriously f*cked up. Although I wonder if no. 17 is actually here. Nah, if I continue to think about it I might just slaughter that group. Calm down Terry.

Terry asked his group of people which were 5 muslims, 3 who were black, Ali, Sadam, and Omar and 2 Indians, Husien and Syed, what they remembered before coming to the place they were in.

“The Indians and Blacks both died due to having war brought right to them either in their house or a warzone, victims of a war that had consumed the world. Although, everyone was curious to how Ali died.

“You first,” he told Terry.

“I got shot in the back by people I trusted,” Terry replied coldly.

“Damn, I lived in Sudan, very poor but making due until bombs started dropping out of the sky. I tried to fight the massive armies trying to take over the entire continent or something. That damn Terry Isenburg, he destroys the world just to have fun. But yeah, I died fighting for freedom along with many of my brothers and sisters,” Ali said, his voice shaking as he blinked several times, revealing small tears that he soon wiped before calming down.

“You too? Not me, but many people I knew were also slaughtered because of Terry. He even started a world war. Damn bastard! Oh wait, I shouldn’t backbite, but still, he ruined so much that I hope he gets punished,” replied the others in the group.

WTF!?!? Terry thought. Not only my life but the reputation that I had spent years to achieve. Oh hell no! I need to leave here fast before I lose control of myself.

Thick veins pulsed from all over Terry and a fierce fire burned in his eyes. Terry had never been so furious before in his entire life, his anger consumed him, and Terry began feeling his mind slipping away.

“Dude, you alright?” asked Ali, concerned for his brother. He grabbed Terry’s shoulders to shake him.

[Due to your uncontrollable rage, activating Demon King Aura]

[Magic has been used too much, body is shutting down]

[Activating Play dead]

Whoosh!

Terry fell to the ground unconscious. Then, nearly everyone else collapsed as well. The only ones that remained standing were 8, which dropped to 5 a second later. Those who stood at the moment were Ali, trying to figure what had happened. The robed man, cold sweat slowly dripping down his back. And three from the group who were talking about anime, each about to pass out from shock, one even pissed himself out of fear. Yet, while all others trembled in fear, Ali stood unfazed. His eyes raced around the plain room as he began to think about what had happened. Ali trembled a bit but rather than out of fear it was out of concern.

“What’s going on!” yelled a man bursting through the thick metal door that led outside the room. He wore silver armor that gleamed from constant polish and shining. A katana hung at his side in a long jeweled scabbard and measured 3 ft long. He had large blue eyes and short blonde hair spiked upward. His armor was large due to the exceptional muscles that were hidden underneath.

“Him,” croaked the robed man weakly, pointing at Ali, as he leaned against the wall.

“This is the first time in a while that we have had such a good haul of heroes,” said the newcomer.

“What’s going on?” asked Ali as he knelt down beside his fellow muslims and felt for a heartbeat on their necks. “Well, at least they’re alive,” Ali continued.

“Wait, he’s dead, I didn’t even ask his name. What have I done?” muttered Ali as tears began to fill his eyes.

“I beg for forgiveness from you my lord,” Ali said toward the sky.

The 3 other people standing shivered fiercely and began to sit on the smooth floor of the room.

“To think that there are some who could stay conscious, damn, especially this one who could control demon king aura and be totally fine...”

Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!

“General Zaroff, what was the cause of that burst of aura,” said a tall woman stepping into the room. She had red eyes and long black hair put into a ponytail. A long blue robe was draped around her shapely body. And she held a long black staff of an unknown substance.

“Help these heroes out, they’ve just been knocked out, but some might have mental problems of some kind after waking up. But first, take the few who are conscious and get them set up.”

Numerous smaller, lesser armored, people entered the room at the command. They helped those conscious out of the room first who didn’t resist much out of immense fear. But Ali asked the general a few questions like “what happened?” or “will that man be buried properly?”

Ali still knew nothing about the world he was in, but what mattered is the care for those he, as well as many others, had thought he had knocked out.

“Don’t worry, they will all be taken care of,” Zaroff assured. “But we first need to have a chat and figure out just what exactly happened in there,” Zaroff continued before leading Ali out of the room.

“Should we wait for them all to wake up before measuring their aptitude for magic?” whispered a man to Zaroff.

“No, just test them while they’re asleep and lower the requirement for a more accurate reading. It’ll be easier to dispose of the trash if they’re unconscious. And throw the dead one in too, he may be dead, but he may be useful nonetheless,” Zaroff whispered back as he continued to lead Ali to another room followed by the tall woman.
