The man standing before him resembled him such that it was like looking into a mirror. The figure even had all the same wrinkles and moles that Frank remembered himself having. The expression of the doppelganger shifted from a blank poker face to one of mild curiosity.

“You could have kept driving. Why did you stop? Why try to help?” Frank inwardly sighed, much to his surprise the sigh was as loud as if he had done it aloud. Curious he tried to respond, “It was the right thing to do, as simple as that. Anyone good person would have done the same in my shoe’s.” The doppelganger responded, sounding almost, disappointed, “Unfortunately, most would have kept driving and tried to forget that they ever saw anything. I have seen it time and time again.”

Frank knew that there were terrible people in this world. Even though he had seen it all for himself, he still was an optimistic kind of guy. He believed the best in people. “Who are you? Frank asked. “Ah that’s the golden question isn’t it? Who am I? Well, I am no one, but you are someone.”

“Are you a devil?” asked Frank raising his voice. “I am not a demon, nor am I an angel. Before you ask, I am not your God.” The doppelganger replied with a voice that portrayed his mild annoyance. “You still didn’t answer my question! Who… are… you!” Instead of answering his question he said. “Your prayers do not fall on deaf ears.” Frank’s eyes widened with surprise.

The doppelganger continued, “I could hear your prayers earlier. You are a most special individual. So, for you I will make grant you all that you need to accomplish your task.” The doppelganger stated while spreading out his arms, all with a small comforting smile on his face.

Frank was weary of this being, who spoke with authority, but claimed to be no one. This being seemed to have stopped the flow of time itself. “What do you want?” frank asked, his head would have been drooping if It could. “There it is the second golden question. What I want, is for you to do exactly what you planned to do.”

“What?” Frank was honestly confused. “I want you to kill the Don. He needs to die, but you can’t do it alone.” The eyes of the doppelganger fell upon the large wolf still hanging in mid-air.

He reached out his hand and placed it upon the large wolves head. His hand began to glow with soft golden light. No sooner than it had started it was done. “What did you do?” “He’s your dog now. Now call your… oh wait.”

The doppelganger turned to the Cadillac still parked by the roadside, he raised hi hand and snapped his fingers. Even with his somewhat deteriorated eyesight, Frank still saw a soft flash of light originate from inside his car.

The doppelganger turned to him for the final time, “Call the others who he has wronged, have them meet you there. Don’t be stupid, and you won’t fail.” The last thing the doppelganger did was place pat Frank’s left shoulder.

All at once the doppelganger disappeared and time resumed its normal course. Frank was immediately flattened to the ground by the wolf. Frank had missed his punch because of what had just transpired, ‘I’m toast’ was his last thought as he closed his eyes.

Much to his surprise, he heard the large wolf panting and felt the wagging of its tail. When he opened his eyes, what greeted him was a happy wolf. The placed a paw on each shoulder and began to like his face. Frank nearly gagged at the deathly smell of the wolf’s breath. Its breath smelled of shit and death.

Frank shoved the wolf off him to which it began to dance around him as he got back up, sitting by his side when he was upright once more. Frank heard the sirens growing ever closer. Frank jogged over to his car. Halfway their he increased his speed to a run.

Frank arrived at his car with a smile upon his face. “I feel like I am 10 years younger!” Frank turned to see the police and ambulances were only a half mile away. Frank opened the door to let the dog hop in, turning around and sitting in the passenger seat.

He saw the phone he clearly remembered smashing, back in one piece, in its resting place. The wolf hopped in and then he had an idea. “I wonder…” Frank turned the key and as the car’s engine turned over, the AC began blasting out.

When he checked his half empty gas gauge, it displayed full. “Thank you whoever you are.” Frank patted his new god on the head. “Your name is Wolfy.” The now named wolf barked twice. Frank took it as acceptance.

“I wanted to finish this before I meet the Don, but you can have it.” Frank said as he reached back and grabbed his half-eaten pastrami sandwich, which the wolf greedily devoured. “Maybe now your breath will smell better.” He said with a chuckle. Frank closed the door and greeted the police as they arrived.
