Rhaegar could barely believe what he was hearing , make ice and use it as he pleased without limit? Wouldn’t it mean he could make giant ice shards and crush all of his enemies? No wonder common folk called nobles descendants of gods, they had so much power.
“But mother, doesn’t this mean that you are unstoppable? You could just go berserk and freeze entire cities , there are so many cities occupied by this world’s nobility and not the 30 noble families ? “
“Silly boy, the moment our ancestors got to this world, be it the original noble families or our 30 houses from the ancient land they were all blessed with power spirits . I can be seen as a disastrous monster in the eyes of commoners but so are the other nobles seen as. We cant go on a rampage since we aren’t that strong compared to the other nobles “
Geld would have never admitted that, he wanted his image in front of his son to be that of an unmovable mountain, however his mother was different.
She liked the fact that Rhaegar asked questions about it, this way he wouldn’t grow up to be an arrogant bastard who thought himself to be special.
Your actions always had consequences, even if you were born noble . Rhaegar needed to understand that if he wished to do as he pleased he needed the strength and brains to back up his actions .

Rhaegar raised his right hand, closed his eyes and tried to feel the mana inside his body.
“Rhaegar, what are you doing ? “
Surprised by this sudden action of her son, the snow queen asked but he didn’t respond .
Rhaegar imagined the energies inside his body to look like strings, his life force energy would be green, his mana would be white just like his ice magic, and his battle aura to be dark red just like his father’s.
He thought of these three energies constantly and freely moving inside his body, he thought of them as his own ropes of life that he needed to control .
“What in the.. “
His mother couldn’t believe her eyes when she felt the table being covered by a thin layer of frost , at first she thought she let out her magic uncontrollably. A mage’s magic was sometimes pushed by their emotions, but nope . It was her son !
A 5 year old learning how to tap into his mana pool without needing her to properly teach him.
“Mother look, I’m doing it . Are you proud of me mother? Do you see, I am as talented as you are “

What she didn’t tell him was that with this pace she will run out of things to teach him by the time he was 10 .
“My Lady , his lordship summons you and the young lord at the dinner table “

Rhaegar had already left, today his father was returning from another battle and he was very curious to see it how it all went.
By the time he got there, he greeted his father formally and stood there until he was granted permission to sit .

Since they would normally have dinner with the household knights and their wives he had to learn proper etiquette and behave accordingly .
Still, everyone would laugh every time he did so since they knew how much the lord spoiled him .
“ Come here Rhaegar, sit ! Tell father what you learned from mother today “
“I managed to use magic and freeze an entire table, unfortunately the frost layer managed to hold on for only one second “
He went on to explain everything that he learned under the surprise of all knights.
His father however wasn’t impressed since he already knew how much of a monster he was, he just kept his cool and listened to what Rhaegar had to say .
“What about you father, were you fighting bandits at our borders again ? “
“Not bandits this time, we were fighting a couple of “Juan corpses” . One of our officials was bribed by the lord of the “Ah Puch” household “
“Father, what are Juan Corpses ? “
“The house of Ah Puch has powers over life and death, they can reanimate corpses of dead people and bring them to life so they can do their bidding . “
The official who had gone over to their side had been trying to help the Ah Puch army who wanted to conquer the city .
And by doing so they had given Lord Geld a massive headache since he knew nothing of managing cities .
“Father, I have an idea. Do you want to hear it out ? “

A significant portion of the story is his character growth into not being a pushover (i.e. him being passive is in the early chapters on purpose).
