《Revival Factory & Other Novellas》The Nymphs of Mosaic (Ch.22)

I had come in my house with trembling feet. I could not forget I had seen that police had gathered in phone booth inspecting dead Dormer. More than it, I had seen Satan. Not only I had seen it but it had touched me twice.
Both times it was on the head. I didn’t know if I needed to fear it or it was to be taken in a normal way. Maybe Satan was happy because I had welcomed him. But still he hadn't given me reason why he killed Dormer. Or it was something else Dormer had refused? If it was, what could it be?
Then I went towards the trunk where I had put the old magazines from the war days. That morning I was finding it hard to resist the feeling of seeing the faces of my friends (no matter if they were alive or not) whom I had got bored of last time.
I went upstairs and found key to unlock the big trunk. Still I had in mind regarding police investigating on Dormer's death.
"Cops were checking phone booth. If they find out a mute man had called me then I would be in trouble." I told myself. "I will tell the cops I had seen the mute many times before so he recognized me. I would say I had given him money sometimes to feed himself and I also had given him his number. In this way cops will have nothing to doubt on me. Dead will not speak anything. And what do I have to do with the hobo's death anyways?"
But still I couldn’t get away from the fact my son had abandoned me, Dormer was dead and Satan had approached to me. And most of all, there was no Stacy.

But still I couldn’t understand what Satan wanted with me. Was it all a place where he could eat? It was the stupidest reason he had heard had got someone killed. No, no, no. Dormer had refused to do something else.
I then took no time to open the lid. I screamed as hundred of rats jumped out of the trunk. As they jumped out, they came out with pieces of papers in their mouths and attached to their feet.
But rats didn’t stop jumping out of there for a long time. Each rat was no smaller than a brick and looked to be heavier than ordinary mice. As I fell down, they ran all over his body and all over the room. They even crawled on my face.
Most of them scattered after finding doorway open. Either way, those rats were to be inside my house. So their absence from the bedroom didn’t matter at all. They were going to be in the house anyways.
When all of them had run then just ripped pieces of papers were left. It wasn’t just papers which had been torn by mice. They were my memories.
The things I didn’t like to see seemed to be precious than anything else.
I got on the knees, screamed in anger and began to weep while I held tiny pieces of papers. I had no idea till when he had cried.
The only thing which sympathized me was my wife's photo which was still hung on the wall inside a frame.
My house was full of rats, not monkeys, after all…

A Spirit Vein's Guide to Immortality
TL;DR Synopsis: Man dies from falling banana, gets interrogated but answers vaguely, suffers consequences Actual synopsis: Spirit veins. Many consider them to be the pillar on which the world of cultivation is built. These things served as the foundation for the first few realms that would allow humanity to achieve its everlasting dream of immortality. However, in the present age, these pockets of condensed energy only exist to be under the foundations of massive organizations, fostering a new generation of fighters while passively radiating the energy they contain. Nevertheless, spirit veins are still an important element in the world of cultivation, albeit much less so. With that in mind, have you ever considered what it would be like for someone to turn into a spirit vein? No? Well, Arthur never thought about it either. Going through the usual reincarnation schtick (if one could consider it usual), Arthur was eventually brought into a place where a god asked him where he would like to be reborn. Unsurprisingly, Arthur told the god his ideal rebirth. However, soon enough, he would come to realize that he should have been more specific with it. Now being reborn as the smallest spirit vein, or if you could even consider him a spirit vein, Arthur wondered what he could do other than wait for time to consume him…and that’s where the system came in. With it, he would experience multiple stories of hardships, adventure, romance, and action…all underground. Unless…? Do keep in mind that English is not my first language, so I would like to apologize in advance if there are any grammatical errors, typos, miscalculations and so on. In fact, I'd highly appreciate it if you tell me those mistakes. Also, this story focuses quite a lot on the gradual progression of the MC at the beginning, but in the long run, upgrading sprees would probably be more common. Thanks for reading this small note! The Discarded
The Umbrae Lunae existed before man, beautiful abominations birthed in the nightmares of mad gods. They wait for humanity to misstep, for the angels to look away. For the moment when they can cloak the world in moon shadows once again. But even horrors have children. Even nightmares must feed. One child, unlike the others, finds his way to a school for young abominations. Will he be a sheep cast before the wolves, or a terror that wears the skin of wool to entice the wolf close? The flesh of his body was his only coin, strips cut to pay debts that never ended. Everyone has scars, stories in a life led, lessons learned, and licks taken. Luminous bodies touched by darkness. There are a cursed few that are the opposite, black shadows consumed by scars, twisted minds devoured by diseased hungers, bodies tortured misshapen works of gouged flesh, silver lines of blade thin cuts, ragged tears of teeth and glass. For them, the scars are marks of homecoming, the mangled wasteland the only place they feel at peace. Hell is a place. It's made of concrete, steel and glass. It's the sounds of starving kids crying themselves to sleep, huddling into small balls as creepers come and take their due of innocence and tender meat. It's eating rotten food and carrying ticks in your hair. It’s having no one and nothing while surrounded by everything. It's the life of a street kid. What abomination was birthed in the corrupt womb of man’s cast-off shit? Pretty people don't know the power of ugly. They can't see the strength in a broken soul or the power in a calloused heart. Those secrets are for the discarded alone. Only the broken understand the grace of darkness. The blessed folds that hide scars and tears, the protection of its concealing umbra.
