Chapter Two: A Change of Pace
“Man, I knew I should have listened to grandpa and stayed away from the woods," said a boy of about twelve years old.
His name was Toru, and he wanted to prove to his friends that he was not a scaredy-cat. He had made a bet to stay in the woods for two hours, and after ten minutes, he was ready to go home.
“Those guys are always saying I'm weak. I'll prove them wrong!” Toru says only to shriek
when he hears a sound in the distance.
“What was that? Please be a squirrel, please God, I'm begging you. Even a rabbit would be fine," he prays out loud. The boy is panicked.
A wolf appeared from the foliage looking for prey. It looked starved, so seeing a delicious boy standing there made the wolf lick his jowls. Toru ran as fast as he could move between trees to get away, but the wolf was faster and only took seconds to catch up. The wolf bites straight into Toru’s leg.
“Ahhh! No, no, why is this happening to me?” Toru cried out as the pain became unbearable. I'm going to die here because of a bet?
Suddenly, a voice spoke out from the trees. “Little boy, what are you doing here?”
As if he found hope, he kicked the wolf off with all of his strength and rushed toward the voice while ignoring the pain he was feeling.
“Please help me! You have to save me, please!” He begged as he saw a girl a little older than him.
“Little boy no need to run anymore. I’m here, and the big bad wolf won't get you, okay?”
Toru did not believe that for a second, they needed to get away now! “You are almost the same age as me! You would get eaten up, come on, let's run to the village where the adults are!” Toru screamed out loud.

Kana thought this kid was annoying. “No need to worry; it is only a wolf. I have killed bigger wolves than this for dinner,” Kana said proudly of herself.
“Yeah, stop your delusions and let's get out of here!” Toru yelled.
“Listen here, you stupid brat. My kindness has a limit you know. Keep this shit up, and you’ll go over it, you hear!” Kana shouted, finally losing her patience. "This damn brat has no manners at all," Kana thought to herself not thinking about the fact that maybe Toru would be right in other situations.
Before Toru could reply, the wolf leaped at him, ready to rip his throat out. “Nooo!” Toru screams and closes his eyes. “Huh? No pain?” he says to himself and opens his eyes only to see the wolf with its head smashed in; its brain scattered about.
“Ugh, I think I'm gonna be sick.” His face went green, and he hunched over a bush to throw up all his lunch.
“Get used to it, kid. This is what happens when I can't control my strength,” Kana told the boy. That is when Toru finally remembered the one who killed the wolf was this girl.
“Eeek! Don’t kill me, please!” Toru pleaded to the cat girl.
Kana was stunned. "Why would I kill you? I'm a peaceful person, well when I'm not feeling angry that is,” Kana told him and after a few minutes he calmed down.
“So, what are you doing in this forest kid?" Kana asks Toru.
“I'm going home. I don’t want to see any more wolves either.” Toru still felt the phantom teeth in his leg.” My name is Toru, what is yours?”
“My name is Kana. Nice to meet you, Toru,” Kana replied. “I'm traveling around to see new sights and going to the village. Want to come with? It will be safer for you,” Kana offered the kid.

Toru nodded enthusiastically. “First, we should check your leg, though,” Kana told him, and he sat on the forest floor to pull up his pant leg.
“It still hurts right now,” Toru replied as he struggled to pull the material up without aggravating the wound.
“Here let me patch it up. I have some herbs that will numb your pain right here,” Kana said as she applied the herbs on his leg. Ten minutes later.
“There, the effects should start working in a minute or so,” Kana said, standing up and wiping her fingers off on a cloth. “Let's go slowly to the village." She started walking.
“Wait for me!” Toru shouted walking after her.
What will happen to this world now that a chosen one walks among it? Who knows, all we can say is that Kana is here and the world better prepare for it.
