《Endless Dive》Chapter - 19

Hoo
Huff
He took in large breaths as he ran away towards the forest with the monsters behind him. They clearly were monsters wearing the bodies because they all had enhanced physical powers than he remembered and in this plain field of grass that resulted in approaching him, fast. He could already feel hands brush past his neck and he considered what he should do. He was going to get caught in just a few seconds.
Very carefully he took out one of the grenades such that those chasing him would not be able to see his action and waited for the correct time. Just as he really felt a hand come in contact with his neck, he lunged to the right and rolled to diffuse the momentum. Quickly standing up he turned and made a throwing motion. It seemed the previous explosion had made them somewhat afraid because all of them jumped back. Pistol already in his hand he quickly fired as many rounds as he could, all of them aimed at the kneecaps. One for each individual monster.
During his fight with them in the last dive, he had learned the hard way that the best way to handle them was to incapacitate them with the least amount of damage done to their body because as the body became more and more ragged their telekinesis or whatever the power it was that they used started coming into play. He had been beaten black and blue last time until he learned this lesson.
They seemed confused for a moment, as the grenade was nowhere to be seen and it took a few seconds for them to process that they had been hoaxed. By that time though, he already had popped quite a few knees and there were only two or three who still had healthy legs. So they utilized them to come running at him. Their movement made his accuracy decline as it took multiple bullets to hit the correct spot at only one of the members. The second one he fired at point-blank range and quickly jumped and started running. The third one though quickly reached up to him and tackled him to the ground.
He tried to overpower him but it was not to be. His legs, thankfully, were free but his hands had been grabbed as he was held down. The creature shouted loudly and he paled. The shout itself was ghastly as if the vocal cords had not been made for such a sound which was true because he had never seen any of these goblins speak more than a low growl.

He started violently applying his newfound strength but was unable to do anything and so he became more and more desperate. And as he became more and more desperate he finally made the creature irritated enough that it used one of its hands to punch him in the face. He still had the pistol tightly grasped so as soon as the creature had thrown the punch, he had brought the pistol right at its eye and fired.
Bang
The world was spinning as he tried to move. The creature was stunned for a moment as it lost its head but he was in no better shape. His head hurt and as he pushed the creature away. He quickly popped both of its knees and observed the area. The group that had been pursuing him was dragging themselves here though with one of their legs unusable it was proving to be a difficult job in this sea of grass. Behind them, he could see the dust from the explosion had finally settled down and six figures were running towards him, fast. Even faster than these guys.
The forest was close but he was not confident in reaching it so as they neared, he exaggerated his action making sure they could see him as he threw a grenade at the group that he conveniently gathered together. He waved at them in good measure as they changed their direction and ran towards the forest.
A sigh escaped his mouth as he climbed at one of the trees in the forest and hid at the top. His head was still hurting as was the jaw and the teeth. The area where he had been punched had already been swollen and he felt the teeth there were loose as if they would come out of their spots with just a bit more effort.
As he was resting in the crown after making sure he was completely hidden in leaves he heard the sound of rustling below as multiple blurs flew through the forest below. He kept resting there enjoying the feeling of warmth that circulated through the body, dimming the pain in his head after every turn.
It took some time before the bell ringing in his head stopped and only then did he carefully go down. By now the suns were up in their full glory lighting up even the inside of the forest with their light.
He circled around the wall, his destination at the opposite end of the town. The place where he had caused the explosion was close to both of the entrances of the town that he knew of. One the river and second the gate. The third most likely was the entrance from where the river broke into the town but he would have to investigate it. He wanted to be far away from all the entrances for what he was going to do.

He wanted to complete this job in a single and massive explosion. An explosion so big that it would remove the dome covering the town in a single move. The reason was that this time his only targets were these depressions, he had checked the goblin but this time they were not included.
The sound of water slowly increased. Because the forest was so quiet he knew he would have to travel for quite a bit to reach the river itself. As he stood at the edge of the river, he looked around confirming that there was no one out in the river, at least as far as he could see. He looked for stones, making a bridge in his mind that he would use to cross to the other side and then aligned himself with them. Once his mind was done, he burst into action and quickly jumped stone to stone. It was not easy as the stones were slippery and he had to jump like a frog from one to the next. The river itself was not dangerous as he had crawled in it but he did not want to get wet and not go deeper into the forest.
After crossing the river, he kept circling around the town wall until he reached the other entrance of the river. The forest was quiet along the whole way making it quite creepy. Less creepy than nighttime because then not even the insects uttered a sound. Throughout the way he kept taking out the black balls from the inventory and filling his pockets with them. Once he had reached the other end of the river, he calculated the midpoint between both exits.
Standing in front of the wall of back depressions, he took out one ball and threw it at one of them. The depression started shrinking and he took out another one of the balls, throwing it at another after two breaths. He repeated the process once more. As the first explosion occurred, the depressions near it became volatile and started quivering. Just nearly the same time another occurred and then another. The depression all became extremely violent though they slowly stabilized. His experiment had failed.
He continues performing tests trying to find the right distance and time that would allow him to make a whole chain of these depression. He kept going at it for hours weaving in and out of the depressions. The view inside these walls made up of depressions was quite different. The more he moved in the darker and colder it got but the most perplexing was that when he was outside he could somewhat see the wall of the town but once inside the only thing present was the depressions, cold, and darkness.
Currently, he was on a tree again, resting. He had been going at it for hours and now he had found a way to chain all the explosions but it was going to be dangerous. He climbed down and went into the dome of depressions weaving past the outer part and into the darker parts. The cold itself was too much but the darkness that the depressions that were tightly packed made him even more alert. What he was doing was similar to standing in a house full of ammunition with a fire in his hands, just a slight misstep and he would be staying here.
He took out a ball from the inventory and brought it close to his target. He only let it get when it was going to touch the depression itself. As it started shrinking, he calculated the time and repeated the process. As he went on, the first one exploded. He could feel the hairs on his boy stand as all around him the depression quivered. His heart beating, he continued on, and then another one exploded. They became more volatile but he kept his focus on the task because if he missed the correct timing he would have to start again, if he was alive by then that is.
He kept on going. Every time an explosion occurred, the whole chain became volatile but slowly they calmed down as they distributed their excited state with new members. As the chain became longer, his heartbeat got faster and now it was going so fast that he considered whether he would die by a heart attack. All the hairs on his body were currently standing.
He had just crossed the river, he noted but moved on quickly. The limit for the chain was nearing by now as he could physically begin to feel the space inside here twist and turn. He wanted to lengthen more but as just one more depression shrank into oblivion the whole chain twisted as if it would explode.
