《Mankind's Blessing》Chapter 3: ELF!!!

After learning more about this world, Damian concluded that the Kingdom of Energia could not possibly exist in his world. First of all, thinking logically, there was no way that this country, which was actually much larger than Damian had first assumed, had not been discovered. With the technology that his world possessed, like planes and ships that could take one anywhere on the planet, how could they miss this gigantic place that held four huge nations? But maybe even with all their supreme advancements in technology, they somehow missed this place. Although surprisingly, there were many similarities between his world and the one he was in now. Their calendars were the same, currency was the same (though instead of presidents there were previous kings on the bills and coins), and English was the main language spoken and written, to list a few. Though what definitely solidified Damian's theory was that the inhabitants of this world had superpowers that they called blessings. The power would be called the blessing of ________. For example, if one possessed the blessing of fire creation, they would be able to seemingly create fire from nowhere, similar to what was called fire magic in the fantasy books that Damian read. Blessings were not unique to a single person as people could be born with the same blessing. However, a person could be more blessed than another person with the same blessing. Basically, it meant that even if two people had the same blessing, one's power could be naturally stronger than the other. From what Damian had heard, elemental blessings were the most common types of blessings. Any other blessings that were not related to elements, such as the blessing of healing or strength, were rarer and were mostly common to the nobles that lived in the capital. In the most rare case, a person could be born with more than one blessing. When Damian checked in with the old village sage to find out if he himself had any blessing, the sage became mystified with her findings.

"Your blessing." She slowly said. "I can not see it."

Damian slumped his shoulders and tilted his head in disappointment.

"So I don't have a blessing." He sighed. "Well, I guess I should have seen this coming. After all, I'm from a different world where blessings don't exist."

"No!" The sage sharply exclaimed. "My blessing tells me that you definitely have a blessing, but it is too....ancient for me to decipher. How strange, in all my years of foretelling blessings, never have I seen a blessing like yours."

The sage appeared deep in thought as she sat, staring at nothing. Damian stayed seated unsure what to do. Should he leave now that the sage was finished with her evaluation? After a few minutes of silence the sage snapped out of her trance and noticed Damian still sitting in her room.

"What are you still doing here?" She asked.

"Oh, uh, so I was supposed to leave." Damian said, his face turning red from embarrassment.

As for the incident with the Lotus Tree, Frank, the village chief, explained that in Damian's house after his cry for answers.

"For hundreds of years, it was prophesied that a person from a distant land would be found sleeping under the Lotus Tree." Frank clarified.

Distant land? They must be referring to America. But how did they know I would wake up here? And hundreds of years in advance as well!

"When Richard told me that you woke up under the tree, I made my way to the gates as fast as I could. I could tell from a glance from your clothes that you weren't from around here, but to be safe I asked you directly. You told me you in fact did wake up under the tree and so I had no choice but to follow the second part of the prophecy."

"Second part?"

"Yeah, the second part states that once we found you, we would have to take care of you until you had to leave."

"Did the prophecy include anything on why I would wake up there or what I'm supposed to do?"

"No." Frank sighed. "I guess it's something you'll have to find out by yourself. Anything else you wanna know?"

"Since the prophecy knows I'm from a different land, does that mean you know what New York is?"

"No. The prophecy does not tell me anything about you or where you came from. It only says you came from a distant land." Frank stroked his chin goatee. "Though I am interested, what is this New York?"

"New York is my home land. It's a place where buildings as tall as small mountains cloud the skies. Machines called cars, zoom from place to place at incredible speeds. People of all races live in harmony with each other, though there is some racism here and there, but hey, being perfect isn't easy."

Frank's sharp eyes shone with admiration. For the first time his face didn't look frightening to Damian.

"Wow. New York sounds like a real haven."

Damian smiled

"If you want I could take you there one day."

"That's a promise, you hear. You better keep your word." Frank lightly warned with a smile himself.

That was when Damian still believed he was in a different country. Now that he knew he was in a different world, the promise had become much more difficult to keep. But if Damian somehow came to this world, he could probably go back as well. He just had to bring Frank with him.

One month passed after Damian found himself in another world. At the moment, he lay in bed, sound asleep, when suddenly the sound of someone knocking on wood could be heard from his bedroom door. Not wanting to get up he curled up in the bed and covered his ears with his pillow to drown out the noise. The knocking persisted and finally, Damian gave up and answered the door. What greeted him was an annoyed Emilia.

"Geez, how long were you gonna take? I was knocking for a while." She complained.

I should have never given her the spare key for my front door. He regretted in his head.

He had given her the keys so that she could wake him up when they needed to go out for their job.

Damian lied through his teeth.

"Sorry, I was asleep."

"We both know that's not true. You always wake up at the 1st knock. The 3rd at latest. Maybe you should try to come up with a more convincing excuse next time." Retorted Emilia.

"Darn, you saw right through me" Damian monotoned.

"Get ready, I won't wait if you take too long."

"Yeah, yeah. I'll be out in a minute."

After Emilia left, Damian groggily changed out of the pajamas he was given from the villagers and into his clothes (the ones from his world). His hair had grown out the blond dye and now was completely black, but his hairstyle was still the same nonetheless. He slung his fanny pack around his shoulder and clipped it on. The reason why Emilia had woken him up so early in the morning was because Damian had volunteered to help out the village in any way he could while he was staying there. It felt wrong for him to leech of the villagers because of some prophecy. Most of the time he was tasked with helping Emilia, although he did do other small tasks if he was asked to. Instead of hunters, the villagers had traps set up around the forest. It was Emilia's job to finish off any animals that got caught in them and reinstall the traps. In addition to bringing home meat, she also gathered fruits and berries when the traps were empty.

When Damian first went with Emilia to collect the meat, he was nervous when Emilia asked him to kill one of the rabbits that had been caught. That was natural as Damian had never slaughtered an animal before. Emilia, on the other hand, was killing off the animals left and right with no hesitation. She was experienced in how to dispatch an animal humanely and could do it swiftly and efficiently. She explained that you have to push the bunny's head towards its spine to break its neck. As Damian approached the bunny that was hanging upside down from the rope that had snared it, he began to have cold feet. The bunny innocently stared at Damian, which broke down his confidence even further. He tried to back away but Emilia wouldn't let him.

"Just think of it of putting him out of his misery." She told him.

Finally after being bullied by Emilia for not being manly enough, he grabbed the rabbits neck with one hand and thrust its head to its spine with the other. He felt as the rabbit's neck snapped and the resistance disappeared. The rabbit became limp and hung from the string, lifeless. It had died in less than a second. Damian silently apologized to the little bunny. Emilia slapped him on the back and congratulated him on his first kill, even if he was wimpy and it took forever to do the deed.

After countless scavanges, Damian had grown accustomed to taking the lives of the animals that lived in the forest, though he did still apologize to them mentally. Today was supposed to be no different. Damian exited his house with a piece of bread sticking out of his mouth that was from the plate his caretaker had left for him. Outside the young beauty of the village Emilia awaited him.

"Thanks for waiting." said Damian as he locked his door.

"No problem. Let's go." Emilia started walking towards the gates of the village.

As they made their way through the village, the villagers kindly greeted Damian and Emilia. When Damian first arrived at the village, they were skeptical about him and hesitated to approach him, but now that they knew that he was not any danger at all, they pampered him with kindness.

Finally, after saying hello to what felt like everybody in the village to Damian, the two made it to the gates. There, the village chief was arguing with a girl that had long red burgundy hair, which in front, was parted to the sides from the middle. She also tied up her hair in the back, making it look like a bun that was empty inside. The girl wore a red leather breastplate that had a light green stem design on the left breast. On her shoulders were red shoulder pads that were outlined in yellow. Her stomach area was covered with what looked like a cherry colored quilt that had a yellow line running down the middle. Around her waist was a standard brown belt with a golden buckle that held the knee low red skirt she wore. It initially was together but then it split from the middle and spread to her sides, revealing the front of her thighs. Like the shoulder pads, the skirt was outlined in yellow and similar to the breastplate, there was a light green stem design but this time on the right rather than the left. Her shins were protected by brown boots that doubled as shin guards. Under her armor she wore black fabric that was visible on her arms and legs, except for her elbows. Her hands were covered by fingerless, murky green gloves. Slung on her right shoulder was a brown quiver that held many arrows within it. Also on her back was a refined wooden bow that was curved at its edges.

"If you don't evacuate the village everyone is going to die!" Damian heard the girl say.

"There is no way in hell that I'm believing anything your kind tells me." Frank hissed in return.

Your kind? But she's human too isn't she?

Her features appeared similar to any human at a glance.

Yeah, she has two jade colored eyes, a nose, a mouth, and two....ears?

The girl had unusually long and pointy ears.

Long and pointy ears? Wait doesn't that mean?!

"I don't know what happened between you and other elves but that has nothing to do with right now!" She exclaimed.

IT'S A REAL LIFE ELF! He gasped from the shock and excitement of discovering a real elf.
