《Evolution For Dummies》Don't make deals with the devil (n't not included)

Welp, that sucked. I was on my way home from my job pulling and all-nighter on a project my boss assigned me last minute. When out of nowhere, a piano, like, an ACTUAL FREAKING PIANO, was somehow pushed over the edge of a building and fell on me. Just like in a cartoon. Except I’m not a cartoon character, so I just died. Well, I’m pretty sure I died, because last time I checked, hospitals don’t exist in endless voids. Although, perhaps the biggest tip-off that I was no longer on earth was the giant four-legged, red-skinned, tri-horned demon-like being.

“You're dead.”

“Thanks,” I replied dryly

“I'm a devil, and I’m here to make a deal with you”

“Ok, so, first off you’re the devil? And secondly, making a deal with you regardless of who you seem like a bad idea.”

I was kinda curious about what was going on here, but also cautious because that deal was going to have a catch, I was sure of it.

“No I’m a type of demon called a devil, not the Devil, and the deal will likely end in your favor,” explained the devil

“Ok then, might as well hear you out. It's not like I have much of a choice, is it?”

“Actually you do. If you don't want to hear my deal, or if you choose to decline it, I’ll just leave your soul here for all eternity.”

That was the moment I decided to look around, as I had noticed earlier I did seem to be in some endless expanse of black. What I didn't notice earlier was that I no longer had a body or anything, really. It seemed that I was just what he had said, a soul.

“Well, that sounds like a boring existence. I’ll hear you out.”

It’s not like I have anything to lose, so might as well.

“Well, I’ll reincarnate you in a different world, and in exchange, every once in a while, you will do quests for me. Nothing that you would be morally against, I assure you.”

“What’s the catch? There's got to be something you aren’t telling me;” I asked, in an attempt to make sure I wasn’t getting scammed.

“Well, the new world won’t be like Earth. There’s magic, for one. And you’ll have the ability to evolve and gain more power the longer you live, and the more feats you perform.”

“That doesn’t sound much like a catch. Those sound like benefits, so what’s the catch?”

“Well you won’t be human, a wolf, actually. And you will be unable to speak humanoid languages as a wolf.”

He said that last part rather quickly and under his breath, but apparently souls have pretty good hearing because I heard him. Even with the catch, It seemed like a fair deal. Almost anything was better than sitting in this void forever.

“There is no other catch, correct?” I inquired.

“Correct, now, what will you choose?”

With a little more thought, I had made my decision. “I suppose I’ll get reincarnated, it’ll make for a good book at the very least.”

“Good, good.”

The devil waved his hand, and as my vision started to blur, the last thing I saw was the devil turning to look out into the void.

As the demon watched the soul spiral away it began to speak

“The soul shows promise”

As he spoke a second being suddenly appeared, this being looked completely different from the demon. A humanoid frame was where the similarities ender, covered completely in eyes of varying sizes with 9 silver wings stretching out into the void.

“Indeed” the new being replied, how it spoke was unknown for it did not have a mouth.

Turning around the Demon Responded “Incredibly determined once it has a goal and willing to do what must be done”

“Should be easy to manipulate into doing what we need it too. All we need to do is wait for him to become powerful, you have given him the goals to increase his power yes?”

“I have indeed” responded the demon, flickering out of reality

As the demon disappeared the Angel muttered to itself, “The fool, it really believes that I will let him gain from this soul”

Little did it know the Demon was saying the same things in its home dimension.

When the angle left a third being stepped out from behind the void, and calling it a being was generous, it was a blob of darkness that somehow managed to be darker than the infinite darkness around it.

“I will be watching you little soul, very closely,” it commented as it watched the soul finally land at its destination.
