A young girl – wearing black, skinny jeans and a form-fitting, white shirt underneath a fuzzy, white jacket – was running around the Field of Battle, circling the Arena (made as a replica of the Flavian Amphitheatre in Rome, but with modern amenities). It was her fourth lap around the Arena, and she was tired, verily so.
Huffing, she sat on a wooden bench, just outside the Arena lobby, and draped her arms all over, her head hanging backwards. She let out a deep sigh, one full of exasperation. "Why was I sent to look for him?" she asked herself. It was an annoyance that she became her quarry's secretary. She stood up, straightening herself, a certain resolution burning in her snow-white eyes. "But when I do, I'll kill him!" The girl then stormed off along the redbrick path, which went to the gate that separated the Field of Battle from the University Grounds.
"Signy?" a sweet, feminine voice called out to the girl, stopping her in her tracks. She turned around and found a familiar smiling face. The familiar face was wearing what seemed to be a white leather coat, over a white leather coat. "It is you! What are you doing here? No, wait! Let me guess..." the familiar girl, placed her hands on her hips, akimbo. A brief silence passed, before she spoke again, "you're looking for Shurie!" she crossed her arms, and nodded, pleased with herself.
Signy sighed, came close, hugged the girl, buried her face on the girl's shoulder, and started bawling her eyes out, like a babe looking for its mother. "Thea... I want... to... beat him... up... so badly!" she said between bleats and whimpers.
Thea stroked her back, gently. She acted like this was second nature to her, or that this situation has happened many, many times. "There, there..." her voice was gentle to Signy's ears, whose tears had stopped, "now, why are you looking for him?"

Signy looked up to the motherly figure that was Althea Kokinos, and her eyes clouded, again, but she didn't cry, she would be unfaltering now. What child would want to cry in front of their mother? – Several, but that's beside the point! "Ma'am U-Ursa came by this morning... and, and!" she began to tear up, again, but she made a deep breath, "she gave m-me a sack f-full of letters, each one wanting to know, when the voting was..." she buried her head back into Thea's shoulder, but this time, only sniffled.
Thea let out a giggle, appropriate for her demeanor. "My friends have been clamoring about that too," she said, still stroking Signy's back, "Knowing Shurie... he'll probably be at the Peasant's Quarter having lunch..." she trailed off, as if remembering something important. She placed her hands on Signy's shoulders, and pushed the sniffling girl away from her neck, she looked Signy in the eyes, "he's definitely eating at Homely! I remembered that he was assigned as Reiseführer, or something, to a new student. GO. THERE."
Signy felt a wave of confidence flow throughout her body, and she nodded at Thea, before running off towards the gate.
Left behind, Thea shook her head, and smiled, wryly. "I'm sorry, Shurie, but you don't let a young woman wait for you."

Signy had arrived by teleportation circle to the Peasant's Quarters in the Pleasure Section. She was hurrying, it was almost 2:00, and the chances, that her prey was gone, were very high. After the last of her being was done re-materializing, she stepped off the circle, and went out of the gate.
As she went out, she saw a tall man with a bored expression, beside him was a shorter man, who was holding two similar-faced kids by the hands, and following them, closely, was a large, brown dog. They were heading to her direction, which meant they were going to use the teleportation circle.
From this vantage point, the five-some looked like a family, Signy thought, but she had other plans.

A Fool's Journey, or the Vagrancies of a Man in Exotic Lands
What does a sad bastard do when fate, literally, decides to throw him into a fantasy world? Solon just wanted to lead a normal life; work, share some pizza with friends, work, play some videogames or read something, work, maybe sleep?, work... Pretty much the usual, rinse and repeat. It was far from perfect, but life was nicely boring and comfy enough. Truth be told, he had hoped it would go on forever, or until he got married, or until the apocalypse finally decided to bring an end to everything. As far as he could tell, though, the former was about as likely as the latter; not very. And perhaps even somewhat related, if it ever came to it. Unfortunately, he saw himself involved in some sort of cosmic fart that screwed him over, brutally severing his life-plan. Or, maybe, would it be more suitable to say that Fate had other plans? Sure, he's yet to find out exactly what those plans might be, but, at the very least, they do seem to involve him being shoved into another world, fighting off a couple of horrendous creepers, and -almost- an accidental liaison with a baboon. Needless to say, the job doesn't come with dental care, and death seems more likely than retirement... Yep, when he got yoinked out of Earth, there were no princesses waiting for him, no sexy goddesses, and no severe Gandalf-wannabes! Heck, not even a bunch of demonic cultists! All he got for the trouble was a bunch of snarky windows and the honest desire to punch whatever bastard happens to be behind the smug System. Well, that, and a few forced trips to the so-called Tower of Ascension. Not exactly what he would have expected but, on the plus side, he does get to do some magic. Though, not quite the wand-waving kind. Whatever. One thing’s patently clear, though, he’s certainly not the chosen one, nor the summoned hero, nor the Savior. If anything, he himself might be in need of some saving... Just what kind of fool does the System take him for? Please do consider the tags. Also, 'Strong Lead' here means weak to strong, over a decent amount of time, not op from the very beginning. Things to expect: decent grammar, cheeky goats. Things not to expect: Harems, a decent sense of fashion.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
