《Death of a Star》Captain's Log; 005. Crash Landing
Advertisement
The last day I remember is 4/18.
We have made an emergency crash landing on the planet Earth. Our ship has no power. I’ve been trying to connect for who knows how long. When I started the snow was an inch high and now it measures three. I think that might be an hour?
The ship is in pieces. The boosters are bathed in flames. I have no idea how long the rocket fuel will burn but it’s the only thing keeping me warm right now. There is no sight of the crew. I haven’t been able to explore yet. It’s so cold. My mechanical limbs are impossible to move.
In case of my memory being compromised. Or my death. I will keep this log by hand.
The crash was violent. What I remember is that I told our pilot (still missing) to make a landing at the nearest pad. The ship made a turn that I didn’t authorize. I storm to the bridge where Dr. Blackwell, our physician, (also still missing) had seized control of the ship from me and turned the ship back toward the star. There was an altercation but I remember little of it.
The booster, the one that was making an odd noise, ignited. From there I have no memory but screaming and fire.
The one compartment of the ship that survived I will attempt to make a shelter out of. Once I have some kind of warm clothes I’ll adventure out. If the crew is nearby or even still alive, they aren’t nearby. I’ve been calling for them as long as I’ve been trying to power on the emergency signal.
I have moved to the captain’s room. The only place that has survived the crash and will function as a shelter. This is good news but it is overshadowed by the bad.

I didn’t know what to expect. But I still tried to summon animus to the holo station. I guess I hoped that Animus would appear and explain this was standard as far as crashes go.
But that didn’t happen. The holo station flickered and gave me hope. I saw the outline of Animus trying to appear. But he had no lights where his eyes should have been. I messed with the wires and rerouted what little power still existed to the one holo station. The static appearance of Animus told me what I already knew. Even with the power rerouted and a strong signal going Animus was no longer here. His shape was factory standard and his vitals were non-existent.
I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I lost my composure. I broke my helmet while prying it off. Now the skull GRaham made for me is cracked down the middle. This just added to my emotional state. I need to find the ship’s cockpit where Animus’ port was docked so I can retrieve the identification tags.
I have never crashed a ship before. I have never lost a crew member. Never in my life.
I need to locate the chemist or physician. Aside from the crash injuries I’ve also split my knuckles on the metal of the ship during an emotional outburst. I’ve used my limited medical knowledge to bandage up the obvious. Now I need to acquire warmer clothing and explore the wreckage.
I’ve put my cracked helmet back on. It gives me breaths of surprisingly cold air, it lashes at my nose and it’s miserable. But if I can gather up Graham, he can repair the ship enough to warm us and get an emergency signal going.
I’ve found the survival suits. I collected one for each of the crew and put them in my make-shift shelter. I need to reinforce it and find more supplies but for now the survival suit will keep me from freezing over.

Aside from crashing somewhere snowy and cold. I’ve hiked up some kind of mountain or hill. From Here I can’t tell exactly. The wreckage spreads out for who even knows how far. By my calculated estimations I’d say at least half a Li-kic. There’s no more fires, they’ve all either burned through their fuel or were put out by the falling snow. There’s undoubtedly important supplies under the snow that might need to be retrieved. Hopefully I can find the mechanical supply to make the digging easier.
FRom my vantage point I think I can see the cockpit. It’s at the very far end of the crash so it might take some time to get there. I have no way to tell galactic time so I’ll keep track of the days from here on out by the revolution of this planet. The star is going down for the night cycle so I’m going to take shelter. From the crack in my helmet I can tell the air is getting colder. It’s also getting very dark. The star is shedding little to no light when not directly overhead.
I need to find what little data that was collected about the star. If it’s going supernova then we are in immediate danger. Yelling for my crew mates again yields no answers but with such a large crash site and harsh winds I suppose this is not surprising. My throat is starting to hurt from yelling but I don’t want to stop in case someone is nearby as I explore. I don’t want to lose any more crew members and the sooner I find them and get them in survival suits the better all our chances are.
