《Childhood Dreaming》Chapter 2

The girl he had fallen in love with, was, in fact, someone dear to him. The one person he could feel safe around. He could be himself, and if he ever needed to talk to someone, she would be there for him. She meant the world to him. He wanted to give her the love she deserved, but he could not bring himself to do it.

First thing Chris did when he came home was to continue writing. It was a hobby he had picked up a few years ago when he started reading more books. Writing had become an essential part of his life now, and it worked almost like a coping mechanism for when he was felling down or had something on his mind.

As he was writing, he was suddenly disrupted by his phone vibrating. He picked it up and checked the screen. It said Adam in bold letters, followed by a message. "You ready to meet up?" He replied with a short yes, before he got up, got his sweater, and left his room.

"I'll be heading over to Adams house."

"Okay!" a small voice answered from the kitchen.

"Just be sure to come home before dark."

"Yeah mom. Bye."

Chris opened the door and stepped out of the house, leaving his mom behind.

Loud button tapping and sounds from a TV could be heard as the two boys were in a heated duel. Both staring intensely at the screen, neither wanting to lose. "YES!!!" Adam jumped out of his seat in response to his decisive victory, as he did a small victory lap around the room. Chris, visibly irritated gently threw the controller in front of him while looking at Adam.

"Calm down! There's no reason to run around the room. It's only a stupid game…"

Adam stopped and looked at Chris with a small smirk on his face.

"Not my fault that you suck at it, and you only say that 'cause you lost."

They both laughed it off while Adam finally found his seat again. This was usually how they'd spend time together. One of them would go to the other persons house, they would order a pizza and play games. As they grew older, time became scarcer and they would meet up less often, but they always made sure to meet up at least a couple of times a month.

"Anyway… there were some things I would like to talk to you about." Adam started, looking at Chris.

"First of all, have you decided your after-school activities? I guess you won't try football again after last year's fiasco."

"Yeah, I think I'm gonna try something more suited to my abilities. I'm thinking of joining the literature club."

"Booooriinnng."

"Well, it's better than sitting on the football team's bench for a whole year."

"I was hoping you'd join me at the basketball team. Oh well, don't come crying to me when all the girls fall for me while you're reading a book in a classroom."

"You know I'm not interested in that kinda stuff… And that isn't really how it works."

"You don't know that! Anyway, you're already too occupied with someone else."

Chris lightly smiled while a certain person came to mind.

"So, when are you actually gonna confess instead of staring at her from afar?"

"I'm not ready yet. It has to be the right moment."

The room went silent for a moment.

"And you're sure she is the one? I mean, there's like a billion other girls in this world."

Chris chuckled.

"Yeah…"

"And if she finds someone else?"

"…"
