《Pilgrim》Spoiled Milk and Bad Omens

The morning sun crept over the horizon, shining down on The Tabernacle. Although it was now emptier than ever, the parsonage was still Sam’s safe space.

Home sweet home.

He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and tried to wake up. Although he slept fine through the night, Sam had dreamt that he was flying, and it seemed to have worn him out.

Staggering on now to the kitchen, he scavenged the fridge for some morning sustenance. Opening the doorway, he stooped down and weighed his options.

Let’s see. Half an onion. Ginger ale. Milk. Oh, maybe I can make cereal?

He popped off the milk top and took a whiff. Then shuddered.

“That’s a no on the milk,” he said in disgust as he dumped the spoiled drink.

After a few more moments of searching the fridge, he managed to find some sausage.

“Sausage and an old ginger ale. Breakfast of champions,” he mocked as he prepped his morning meal, “I’ll definitely need to grab some groceries soon.”

He grabbed the remote for the television and flipped it on.

There’s never anything much on this early.

After he flipped through some channels, he came across some news that caught his eye. It was a scene of some police officers arresting the muggers. Well, arresting them after they got them off of the building ledge. He watched with anticipation as his breakfast sizzled on the skillet.

You could hear the men yelling to the cops about how an angel had attacked them. It actually sounded comical, and made them sound crazy. There were also some paramedics trying to calm them, and patch them up. Looked like the 9-fingered gentleman would get his 10th back after all.

Next, there was an interview with the victim.

“It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. An angel, I’m telling you, he was an angel!” The woman seemed as crazy as the muggers when trying to convince people.

“I'm sure he was like your guardian angel,” came the reporter's response.

The woman returned a very serious scowl.

“No, I mean he was literally an angel. He had glowing blue wings. He had this long flying spear-like thing that he used... It's the truth. He is an angel.”

The reporter, still obviously not convinced, took the comments in stride.

“You heard it here, folks. An angel is protecting the citizens of Lumen City.” They flashed an image, like that of a police sketch, of Sam. They did make him look more muscular and gave him a halo, but they definitely nailed Sam's face.

“Oh... oh, no. Now people may recognize me. I guess I'll need to come up with some type of disguise the next time I do something like that...”

“In other news,” the morning news anchor said while interrupting Sam's thoughts, “the body of Levi Lyon, the gunman responsible for the shooting at The Tabernacle, has been reported missing.”

A reporter continued on with little to no information, but Sam's heart had sunk.

What could this mean? How does a dead body end up missing?
