《There Is A Monster Among Us》Chapter 7

Currently, I am looking at a perfect copy of Black, which means that the person before me is a shapeshifter!
If I don't strike now, the intruder might still change its form, and things will become a lot more complicated than it is.
Gripping the hilt of my sword, I storm the room with a clear objective in mind: Kill.
But obviously, the enemy won't be as careless as I hoped. The shapeshifter manages to conjure the same claws that killed Black at the right moment and block my blade. I step back instinctively when the other hand strikes back. The long, sharp nails go past my vision. I marvel at my awesomeness (or luck) as I shift to a defensive stance. The enemy and I clash in a series of blows, shouts, and growls.
However, it soon becomes apparent that I am struggling, being pushed back. With my back on the wall, quite literally, my mind starts to race about my options. Spending a second longer than necessary might cause my death.
"Lieutenant!"
I heard a shout from one of my subordinates close by. Reinforcements!
Before I can call for help, the impostor ran out and away from the cabin. Surprised as I am, the realization that I am now safe dawns on me. I am now able to breathe a sigh of relief, even if temporary.
"Lieutenant!" Pink comes crashing through the room with her short sword, the pinkish hilt catching my eye even in this nerve-wracking state of affairs. As soon as she sees the dead maid lying on the floor, blood flooding slowly, Pink briefly shows a face of exhilaration before keeping it in control as she reports to me about the situation above. "Three of the attackers have been neutralized. One slipped away down here. I take it that you've fought the other one?"

I nod. "Before anything, I must thank you. Had you come any later, I might have been dead."
"No problem, Lieutenant Brown!" She salutes me with a big grin.
I return the grin before we return to face the seriousness of the matter.
"I should probably head out and scour the ship," Pink says, turning towards the door.
But I immediately stop her. "That one seems strong. We must not stay alone and keep to at least two men." I don't know how strong the other three were, but I still want to be safe. "You need another mouth to shout for help just in case something bad happens."
Pink looks a bit skeptical, but she still has to follow her superior. Or maybe she finds my reasoning pathetic.
The truth is, I'm just afraid to be left alone, and Pink can probably handle it by herself. But I did not lie either.
With Pink by my side, I am now less nervous. Steeling myself, I find myself hearing more people coming towards our direction.
The three knights enter the cabin while the rest of my men stand outside due to the small space. Similarly, everyone sees the maid unmoving with horror on her face as she lies clutching her neck.
Red turns to me with an accusing look. "You will be needing a lot of explaining to do, Lieutenant."
What?

8 375Eliot Ness for Mayor
An everyman tests his mettle when a Voodoo god, in the guise of a kindly crackpot, thrusts him back in time and into a violent riot. Ironworker Frank O'Brien digs his life: great wife, tight family, and a job he loves, raising skyscrapers for a firm whose owner he respects. Smooth going until his boss, the owner's grandson, stirs racial and labor tensions. Soon, Frank's fighting the good fight, and standing tall seems to work. He even manages a few allies until a Voodoo god mucks up the works, knocking Frank back to 1966 and into the center of Cleveland's Hough riots to test his mettle. Needless to say, getting back to see his little girl's youth orchestra recital's gonna be a bitch. ELIOT NESS FOR MAYOR is a short novel of magical-realist fiction, a stand-alone book in the Shantytown Cycle. Written for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), I will be posting revisions as I complete them and should be done by early 2022, though I am making major changes so the timing may be longer. This book is cross-posted on two websites: Wattpad and Royal Road. Both are reputable, high-quality sites. Do not trust this book on other websites. They "scrape" material from reputable sites, posting the stolen material as an original to lure users in, but contain links that include malicious code.
8 102Gods and Glory
What is Right? And what is Wrong? It's the hypocrisy of history written by victors. The Gods are good, the Devil is evil or so we've been told. Those who oppose the rulers in this world shall be persecuted and entitled evil, for they might shatter the false peace established. There never will be true peace, only coexistence. For to live is to devour; To devour is to deplete that which is consumed. This is the fact of life. What makes a Hero? Who deems what deeds be called 'Heroic'? Saving the world? Being chosen by a God? Unbelievable Power and Skill? Spirit of Self-sacrifice? Or Devotion and Bravery? Who knows? Our protagonist shall play the part, starting over again to correct her mistakes. Pit against the tides of fate, struggling to change the future. Her nemesis, victim of a cruel life and the irresponsibility of adults. Sights set on revenge, now he crawls his way back, looking for blood. Watch the contest between wits and brawn, as they fight their way up to victory. In the end, who will prevail? Noble or Peasant? The Hero or the Devil? Mortal versus Immortal. This is a story of Sin, a tale of Trust, a novel of Nobleness, and a chronicle of Magic. ~ fin ~ "I will write my way into another life." - Ann Patchett - Hello everyone~!!! ~(???)/~ Ballisti here. I hope you had a good time reading! This is my very first book, but I've spent quite the time writing and editing this. So I'm a tad bit confident with this. Sadly, I'm only able to put up 2 chapters weekly. The reason is...I'm still a student. School is hard, annoying and a hassle but necessary. So I'm really sorry for the slow updates, but please bear with me~!(?-?-?) I hope you enjoy reading this ('cuz I sure as hell had so much fun writing this ( • ??•? )). Thanks~!
