《The Black》Public Log Entry 3

I tried uploading this a few days ago, but after I got through my thoughts and clicked the submit button, it told me there was an issue with the website and I lost everything. Shows how smart I am for not keeping this in some sort of document offline. Ah well.
When we made it to Kyou, it took us three days to run the diagnostics available to us in a large space-dock. Nothing was wrong. There wasn't even a mention of the broken pump in the maintenance logs. I have no idea what's going on with the ship, and it worries me. The captain ordered that we stay in dock for some more time to rerun diagnostics and check the ship up and down to be sure.
What's more, there was a host of crewmembers that fell into sickness. None of the doctors know what it is, they can only give those sick sedatives and pain meds. A virus of some sort, they said it was. Those that were in contact with them have been taken to quarantine, just in case it can spread easily. I told the wife not to come. I didn't want her getting sick. I told her she could come if I get sick, but I ended up being fine. Some of the others weren't so lucky.
Four days after the second round started showing symptoms, five individuals died. I had never met them, but I went to pay my respects in the hospital all the same. Mardell F. Bengle, Mindi M. Dick, Myesha C. Monkus, Lida C. Quattrocchi, Katelyn W. Roner. All enlisted. I'll never forget the look of pain and agony that was upon their faces as they lay motionless. It makes me shudder when I think of it. Their skin was stretched, almost like it had shrunk, with boils and sores here and there, bleeding and spewing puss. They eyelids couldn't be closed, so they had to put blindfolds over them.

One thing you have to realize, is that on a spaceship the size of ours, you could go an entire four year contract without meeting everybody on the ship. A standard C-Class Vega requires a standard crew of about six thousand men. At any one time, there are around one thousand on duty and we take six shifts in a standard cycle, unless we're doing specialized work such as what we've been doing in space-dock. Those numbers go higher as you get into the B-Class and the A-Class, and the other ships are different animals all together.
I could go on for hours about the crew sizes, but that's not what matters. After we are done with the diagnostics, we are to head to the home planets of those dead. Momoru, is first, followed by the snow-laden planet Rin, and finally Akemi. When we have finished with the ceremonies for the fallen soldiers, those that get better will rendevous at Takaru, a guard planet for several planets that provide the military with food.
We got back on the ship after the triple-checking was finished, and there wasn't a sound. Back to the normal silence of space and crewmates. It makes me worry more than for the soldiers sick. The clicking, the screams, nothing. Whatever was going on, it's not anymore.
I feel like I'm going insane with anxiety. Worried about this, worried about that, and now that the fucking noises are silent I'm worried about that too.
I know I had more that I wanted to write out, but the website going down kinda shat on me. Got all the thoughts out of my head and now I'm trying to remember them, but can't. Guess I'll have to be more careful in the future. I've also been thinking about a way to close these posts, but everything seems too cheesy. I've thought about "Until next time" as well as something from my Basic Training, "Goodnight wolfpack" but I need some people to interact with before I can call it a pack.

Anyway. Time to get some sleep for my shift. Hopefully I don't lose anymore material.

Saga of the Jewels VOLUME ONE COMPLETE
Prefer to listen to rather than read Saga of the Jewels? I'm also releasing it as a free audibook serial podcast on iTunes here! Epic YA JRPG-influenced GameLit progression ensemble-cast steampunk romance fantasy! When Ryn’s hometown is destroyed, will he be able to gather together the twelve Primeval Jewels in order to defeat the evil Emperor and save the world of Mid? A fan novelization of an amazing Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist, that currently releases at least one chapter a month. Epic in that this will be very long. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint!” (-Kandaj) YA in that this should be enjoyable to~13-year-olds and upwards. Some gore, some swearing, some sex, but nothing more than PG-13. JRPG-influenced / GameLit in that it uses lots of JRPG tropes, particularly from Final Fantasy. I’ve read a lot of fan Final Fantasy novelisations and you can basically think of this as a fan novelisation of its own Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist as a game... Progression in that the characters level up over time (though not with visible litrpg stat boxes). They grow in ability through training and experience, gain new skills, individually and as a party (think Chrono Trigger) and spend time discussing and stratgeising about how to defeat their opponents. Main protagonist from book three would definitely be able to defeat himself from book one! Ensemble-cast because we've got quite the roster of misfits here. The first volume is all from the main protagonist's POV, but it starts dancing between his and different POVs thereafter. Steampunk in that we’ve also got airships, steam trains, pistols and ambiguous ‘amber bars’ that function a bit like artificial lights… Romance in that there is lots of shipping here, a few love triangles, and you may be kept guessing as to who will actually end up together... Fantasy in that we’re in a vaguely pre-modern setting. We’ve got swords, magic, dragons, dungeons, monsters, all that good stuff. * "This story captures that Final Fantasy quality perfectly. Kiddy but also grim. The characters are great... Severely underrated and needs more favorites/follows. I look forward to seeing how this story will unfold." -Gilgamesh9999 "Starting at the end and jumping backwards is not a writing style seen every day. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, but you've executed a fairly crazy idea very skillfully so far. Overall, a strong start to what could be a very strong story." -RandomFF.netUser "You definitely have my interest piqued. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes... It definitely has an 'old school Final Fantasy' type feel to it, which I appreciate...Good job! I am glad you are going into more details about the story you laid out in the prologue...of course the big burning question is 'You know they lose in the the first chapter, so how will they end up winning?' That of course, is the story you're writing...so we'll see how it goes! #Following." -KyleQuicksilver (quotes are from reviews on other sites) * If you enjoy it, don’t forget to boost Saga of the Jewels on topwebfiction.com! With that, do be gracious with me, as well as offer whatever helpful criticisms you might have. I’d be much obliged. Enjoy!
