《ASTRAL: Awakening of the Saffron Sky-Tamer》Chapter 0: "Epoch"

In an era long past, the scattered realms of today were once united into one magnificent world: Panregalia, an enormous kingdom brimming with all manner of life. It was presided over by Seven mysterious beings known as Celestials, the Progenitors of Magic, and Guardians of the Aspects that ruled existence. Though they rarely revealed themselves, on occasion they would choose devout subjects from the Tribes of Humanity to become conduits for the Gift of Light.
Life was peaceful and harmonious until the Helians, members of a powerful and fearsome tribe, committed the especially egregious Sin of twisting their Gift into a weapon against their Holy Overseers. Angered at the betrayal, The Seven unleashed legions of lesser beings upon all humanity. In the midst of the chaos, the Helians disappeared, hiding their realm by means of unknown magic and leaving the remaining Tribes to bear the brunt of the punishment. When they would not acquiesce, The Radiant Mother, Chief among the Celestials, personally engaged them.
At an immeasurable cost, they overcame the Great Celestial, though She was met by Her counterparts as She fell. Conferring Their energies to Her in ancient ritual, They united to bestow a punishment in the form of a threefold curse: Severance of all humanity from The Light, birth of the ravenous creatures known as the Fractured, and the splitting of Panregalia into separate realms. The Seven swiftly vanished, leaving the Tribes to reap the reward for their transgressions.
Without the Seven’s Mercy, they were ill-equipped to combat the Fractured, and so sank into a maelstrom of despair. It was at the bottom of this darkness when humanity learned to harness the Light from other sources. Thus, they emerged to push back the Fractured and reclaim their realms, paving the foundations for the future. Leading at the head was Mindanon, a realm of technologically-oriented peoples who guided the humanoids into the future.

Now centuries later are the beginnings of a stir. Alongside the resurgence of the Fractured, stone monoliths have emerged in the long-abandoned Guardian Temples, bearing upon them strange writings composed of symbols from an archaic language. Many have postulated that the occurrence is a foreboding prelude to dark times ahead. Others consider the possibility of the Guardians' return, to either destroy mankind once and for all or end the curse and reunite the world that has been torn asunder.

Homeland
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state.A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
