《This world is strange》Chapter 5. The world
Advertisement
While walking, they were talking about the forest and the village. Apparently this world was created by the Three Gods. The God of Death, the God of Existence and the God of Life. The sole reason why they made it was that, they were bored, so the God of Existence made the planet, then the God of Life made life on it. They made beautifull creatures, plants, mushrooms and all kind of other stuff. Then the God of Death made the "ugly" dark creatures.
The whole world was in a constant war between the two factions. They were balanced and in the war they separated the world into two different areas. On the "death's" side all natural things died out and it became a waste land. On the "life's" side the nature began to get stronger and stronger, until it became a giant forest. Only leaving a small place on the other side of the forest, where is a prairie, which is a neutral place.
The creatures usually stayed on the side where they were created, but there were betrayers on the side of the God of Life as well. They were cursed and became hidious creatures known orcs and goblins. Though it was possible that some of the creatures weren't agressive against the other side and they were neutral, but they couldn't stay at any of the sides, they live on the other side of the forest, like the beastfolk, who were originally created by the God of Life and were living with the elfs. They either move there through the forest, or around the forest, but going around could take a few months.
"That is a lot to take in!"
"It's still strange, that you don't know about these basic things."
"Hahaha..."
He was laughing awkwardly.

"So Joseph! Are there any questions you want to ask?"
He looked at her and there was a question, that came in mind, which he got no answer to.
"Yes there is. What is your name?"
"Oh right. I forgot to tell you! Haha! I'm Leafa!"
"Leafa. It just suits an elf woman like you!"
He was smiling at her pleasently, but she seemed to get stiff for a moment, before she started to move forward once again.
"This is a traditional name. It is my great-grandmother's name."
"I see."
He was still thinking about the things Leafa said. This world seemed rather straigh forward. It seemed like he was only sent here to spice things up or something. Though there was a really strange thing. As she spoke about this world, it seemed a lot smaller, then it should be. She said the mountains on the end of the barren lands were the end of the world, also there were mountains all around the whole world. But the strangest thing was that, you could travell from one end to an other in a few months. It is literally impossible to do that in a normal world. If the world would be that small, even if it was psychically possible, then they would see the curvature of the planet with naked eyes, but instead it looked just like Earth. It would only make sense, to not see any curvature, if this planet would be flat...
'Which might be? I mean a god is the reason it exists. They might have made it that way and keeping the planet alive...'
The trees seemed to get less dense the more they moved away from the Wast Lands.
"Oh I just remembered something."
"What is it?"

"How should I greet the elder? Should I bow? Get on my knees?"
"Not really. Bran is like the friend of everyone. Just say hi to him and it will be fine."
'I doubt it would be fine... So the elder is called Bran.'
As they were walking two male elf in hide armor turned up. One of them started to talk with a smile on his face.
"Hello Leafa! Seems like you got a prisoner again! What kind of torture do you plan to do to hi..."
Leafa punched him, but he started to laugh, while Leafa's face turned red.
"I'm not doing any of the stuffs you are talking about!"
"Ok! Ok! I'm just teasing you! Hahaha!"
"I'm taking this human to the elder."
The other guy spoke with a deep voice.
"Human? What is that? A new creature? There wasn't any in ages! It might be fun!"
Then he walked closer and inspected him.
"He almost looks like a bad imitation of us! Hahaha! Also he looks so weak!"
Joseph was crying inside.
'It's not my fault, that I'm still level one!'
Leafa pulled him hard and started to walk forward.
"Just leave him, the elder will decide what we do with him."
'I trully have no a say in this!'
As they were walking forward, Leafa disappeared and the rope was flying in the air.
'Illusion?'
He walked forward without really thinking about it and then, instead of the forest he saw a few seconds ago in front of him, there was a village. The trees were very different from the other parts of the forest. On the lower part they had such thick trunks, that whole houses were made out of them. They started from the ground and seemed like even up in the top parts of the tree were windows. Between the houses elves were doing everyday things.
Joseph couldn't close his mouth at the sight.
"This is amazing!"
Leafa turned around, spread her arms and smiled brightly.
"Welcome to the city of Elfheim!"

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
