Jake woke up slowly. He felt very groggy and unsure of where he was. He tried to open his eyes and couldn’t. He could not move his arms or legs either. What was going on? The last thing he remembered was berry picking on the barrens. He could not remember anything else. Did he fall down? He started to panic and hyperventilate.

“There is no need to panic.” A voice said.

“What? Who’s there?” said Jake. The voice sounded strange, mechanical even.

“You can call me Explorer Class 34-21. That is the closest approximation in your language.” the voice said

“In our language? What the hell are you talking about?” said Jake. Was this a practical joke? Where was he. This person sounded a bit crazy. Maybe I should ask what is going on and why I could not move?

“Where am I? Why can’t I move?” asked Jake.

“I am not finished with you yet; you will wake later.” Said the voice.

Jake faded off to sleep again.
