《Magic is Power》Chapter 14

A woman with a very small figure and black hair stood with a sword in the middle of a cave. She wore a metallic textured set of armor that was blue colored. She had a very cold expression on her face. The sword she was holding looked unusually bigger because of her body.
Around her were four people, three males, and one other female. They all held weapons in their hands and formed a circle. This was a raid team of the hunters guild.
“Yura! can you take care of the boss monster ?”
A male holding a large shield shouted nervously. He had taken a defensive stance.
Yura gave him a cold expression, any person felt that they said something stupid when seeing her face. The group nervously waited for a reply, they were all hoping for the same thing.
“Yes”
That one word instantly gave a sense of relief to the group. They became really motivated, now the only problem were the monsters around them.
These monsters had a humanoid shape to them but had different proportions. Some had long arms while others were really short and had weird faces. They were very common monsters in dungeons, they were slow and didn't have much intelligence. However, their power lay in their numbers.
Yura held the sword in her hand and looked at the horde of monsters. She waited for 5 or maybe 10 seconds and sprinted forward towards two monsters, one of the monsters had a huge gap between his legs, she slid through this gap and stabbed the monster in his back.
A monster close to Yura came rushing forward and swung its arm to hit the person, Yura shifted the heel of her foot to change the position of her body at the slightest, this tilted her body allowing her to perfectly avoid the attack.
Another monster tried to smash his head at Yura but she ducked immediately and cut the monster in half. She then sliced three other monsters around her, the blood of the monsters splashed on Yura’s face.

Kwang Kwang!
The group of hunters observed Yura while holding off the monsters, they could never get used to watching her move around so beautifully.
Yura elegantly moved through gaps between the monsters by using her small figure. In a minute or so she couldn’t be seen as she had moved away. There were slain monster corpses on the path she had taken.
The raid team was now able to slowly fight off the monsters due to their lessened number. They coordinated very well, with two people distracting the monsters and tanking by using their shield. Others focused on damage and support. This was the power of one of the major raid teams of the hunters guild.
The circle the group created became bigger and bigger as they fought back.
“Ahhh !” a woman screamed after a monster attacked her
A man holding a shield moved forward and pushed the monster with force, the body of the monster hit the ground.
“Keep your guard up !” the man exclaimed.
--
Meanwhile, in front of Yura was the boss monster.
This monster had a body that resembled a centipede, except it was very large almost the size of a train.
The centipede was black in color and it had many tentacles. Making it very creepy.
‘Giant Centipede’
Yura read the name above the monster, it was dark orange in color.
Fortunately, the centipede was now laying and its head was tilted to the other side, Yura moved stealthily towards the centipede's body.
Kwang Kwa Kwang!
Her sword sliced the great Centipede many times, she used all her energy to attack as much as she could. The centipede screeched in pain and started slithering its body from side to side.
Sceeeeech
Yura dashed back.
The centipede turned its head towards Yura, its entire body was now facing Yura. Its body looked bigger as it tried to intimidate its opponent.
Yura dashed forward, the centipede rushed its head towards Yura.
Bam!
The centipede’s head hit the ground with great force, so much so that it shook the walls of the cave. However, Yura had disappeared.

Kwang Kwa Kwang!
The centipede screeched in pain and fell to the ground.
Just like that a monster that would be difficult for most hunters was taken care of.
Yura’s face was covered in blood.
[You have defeated the Giant Centipede !]
[Level up !]
[Level up !]

“Alright, I have made the payment” Carter said
“Thank you! Here is your equipment! Please let me know if you need anything else” she said while handing out two large bags.
The woman had a warm smile on her face, she bowed down
Gray and Carter each grabbed a heavy large bag.
“Ahhh, let us meet up with Brandon?”
Gray nodded his head.
Gray and Brandon walked several blocks before reaching a dungeon gate. This dungeon gate was located in the midst of the city.
Brandon stood in front of a lady. In front of him was a dungeon gate.
“Sir hunter, I am sorry but there is already a raid team inside the dungeon you do not have authorization to-”
Brandon cut her off
“Yes yes, I am waiting to meet someone inside” Brandon replied
The lady was an assistant to the raid team that was inside the dungeon. Right now she was losing her patience, this person waited in front of this dungeon gate for the past forty-five minutes. Anything she had said was ignored. She did not want to get in trouble with her superiors if this person somehow became a nuisance for the hunters.
“Oye oye” Carter shouted and waved his hand from far away. Brandon noticed him.
But Brandon did not say anything and simply looked towards Carter with a forced smile.
Carter and Gray came towards Brandon.
The lady took notice, now there were three people? She was feeling even more impatient.
“Please sir hunters, can you stand away from here?”
..
Carter and Brandon were fighting, Carter was pinching Brandon. They were acting like kids.
Gray was standing idle and had no expression.
The lady did not receive any reply. She was now getting angry. However, she then noticed the hunters walking outside the gate. She ran towards them and bowed her head.
The people that walked out of the gate were covered in blood. Fortunately, there were no fatal wounds and the raid was successful.
This was the raid team that Yura was a part of. She was placed in this raid team to provide support to new hunters that were joining the hunters guild. She would be told to do this from time to time.
“Hunter Yura, we thank you for helping us clear this dungeon !”
The group of hunters bowed towards Yura. They were really thankful for the help Yura had provided. They may have died if she wasn’t there.
Yura did not say anything, she just had a cold expression on her face.
“Hello, Yura! would you like to join our guild?
Brandon had a large smile on his face as he said this. He waited nervously for an answer.
The group of hunters saw this scenario many times and knew what was about to happen
“No”
Yura walked away
Brandon stood still.
“What did I tell you? Bahahaha”
Brandon’s face showed a look of sadness.
Gray stood still and glanced towards Yura. You could tell when a person was strong, however, it was difficult when looking at Yura.
The group of hunters had confused faces as they looked towards each other. This was the first time they had seen this. Yura had actually thought for a moment before giving out a reply.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Berserker- Crank Wars
Nearly 500 years have passed since the so-called apocalypse where souls dominated their control over the human vessels and grew into fierce monsters. A small frail kid saved humanity from getting wiped out of the face of the earth through his strangely powerful and unique techniques and taught them to the humans that followed him. He became a legend and humans developed special powers called cranks from his teachings. Humans couldn't procreate anymore. A very few thousands of last generation humans that remained or stayed alive by becaming crankers now constitutes the only humanity left on the planet. And they should continue to keep levelling up their cranks by slaying monsters and siphoning their souls to stay immortal and most of them tend to form teams to increase their odds. Everything was wrist-slittingly boring like that until one of those teams went ahead and mistakenly awakened the legend kid from his deep, and sound slumber. --------- One Chapter @Everyday -------------------- Unfortunately, I don't own the cover.
