《The Girl Who Jumped Through Worlds》21. Fury

Even though Eve didn’t know the answers to everything she wanted to know, she had come a long way and was pretty informed now. It’s seldom for her to be too reckless but as soon as she heard that her Mom had been imprisoned here, she couldn’t hold it anymore. Moreover, seeing that fate was on her side as well, teleporting her here in front of all the statues, made her overall goal easier to achieve. She was confident that she could take them all down. Her training had already paid off with the guards and considering she had won against two of those statues, she felt pretty optimistic she could do it. In addition, she also had a better synergy with her pet now and that only made things simpler.
She then suddenly started thinking about how she had just been on another world and how the possibility of her taking her Mom and friends with her back to their home was finally achievable. She didn’t care what it would take, she only had an objective and she knew she could accomplish it. She presumed thinking on how many other worlds there would be and if they each had it’s own portal of they could be attained in other ways. She was just thrilled to the idea, but she had to take things one step at a time.
“Oh, how lovely. I see you’ve found out, huh?” responded one of the the Statues.
“Yes, and I know you’ve forced my Dad to become the Devil. Even though he didn’t want it.” replied Eve.
“Oh foolish one. You don’t know all the truth apparently.”
“What do you mean?”
“Your Dad wasn’t forced by anyone, he chose that himself. He figured that he can’t become the Next One and the closest thing to the Next One’s power is the Devil’s. So he immediately accepted the request. But he didn’t read the terms and with him accepting that, he himself imprisoned your Mom. An eye for an eye as they say.”

Eve was finally shocked.
“You’re lying!!” screamed Eve.
“Why would I? You wanted to hear the truth and I gave it to you. If I have to be frank, the power got on your Dad’s mind and he can’t really control it that well. Also considering his current form. But you know what you could do? You can turn yourself in, we could liberate both of your parents and everyone would be happy. You’d just have to stay with us.. for eternity.”
Eve was still contemplating. Deep down she knew the truth. She knew the spirit hadn’t lied to her. She knew she had always been capable of jumping worlds. Those dreams she kept having, they weren’t dreams; it was her unconscious effort on traveling through worlds. And as each world had it’s own characteristics, she knew this one was certainly the deceitful one. Suddenly, her thoughts were clear and she had no more doubts.
“Yes. I would gladly beat the hell out of ya’ll and take my Mom back. Then I’ll take care of Dad. You can’t stop me.” confidently said Eve.
“Oh poor one, what a grievous mistake. GO GET HER THIS TIME!”
One super tiny statue came out of nowhere. It wasn’t per se small, it could’ve been the size of a dwarf, but in comparison with the other statues it looked really minuscule.
It started rolling with no anticipation and hit Eve. It’s agility was very formidable but Eve had just started getting warmed up. They kept dodging and attacking each other for a few good minutes. It all seemed futile but then Eve got to hit the last blow and the statue was dead. Evelyn felt victorious, she felt like she could beat anyone if she actually tried.
But then out of the blue, another statue approached. The previous one was still laying on the ground, and the current one just came and ate it. The new one got bigger and had spikes all around it’s body. Suddenly her pet woke up. The tremendous aura couldn’t be avoided.

Eve immediately attacked it since she wanted to get a surprise attack but was thrown at the other part of the hall. She wasn’t injured that badly but as soon as she stood up, the Statue was right back at her attacking her continuously. The pet then made a portal to let Eve retrieve for a bit to recollect herself. She saw Eve on the face and slapped her. With her small little paws. Eve knew that it wasn’t time for her to slack so she got up and was ready to counterattack.
She finally used Vision. She didn’t think it would’ve been useful but she was able to find a weakness. Right below the back. Eve got out her dagger and started running and running avoiding everything that came onto her. Her pet helped big time but she was getting tired too. Eve was trying to empower her dagger and it certainly took time to do so.
They kept it up for some time but Eve felt that the right moment had finally come. She stopped and threw the dagger as hard as she could to the opposite side of the opponent. And screamed: “Tep, summon a portal!!”
Everyone was confused, Eve was as well. But her pet wasn’t. She knew Eve had just gave her a name and in no time a portal was called. After a while nothing happened.
The Statue made sure to take this to it’s advantage and went on a full spike mode. It started approaching Eve with what seemed it’s final attack. Eve had nowhere to run, but that wasn’t the point. At the last moment, the portal reappeared right behind the Statue and hit it with everything Tep had been reinforcing it with. The Statue got annihilated and they were once again victorious.
“I see your synergy with your pet has been developing. Onto the next time then. And the final one..” said the main Statue.
Evelyn disappeared without getting to say anything. She was back at the fortress.
“Hey, good job there. You really did great!” said Eve.
“You too.” responded Tep.

MeiQ: Lore of the Labyrinth
Omaros City lays near one of several Yggdrasil trees that are scattered around the world. Each tree holds an entire labyrinthine ecosystem within or beneath it, yet the mysteries of their origins and what lays in their depths are only ever unraveled by the most skilled and courageous of explorers. Exploration of Omaros' Yggdrasil labyrinth is still in its fledgling stages, drawing in many with the allure of fame and glory that has yet to be claimed. Enter the harbinger Dubhan—cheerful, determined, and not terribly skilled at thinking ahead—and warlock Allouet— intelligent and resourceful, but desperately in over his head. Together, the two of them have half an idea of what they're doing at best, but that's not going to stop them from aiming for the labyrinth's unknown depths. MeiQ is, at its core, a fanfiction inspired by the Etrian Odyssey franchise, alternatively known as Sekaiju no Meikyuu in Japan. Despite that, it is written with the intent to be enjoyable by those unfamiliar with the series as well. The characters and the city of Omaros are original, while the story draws upon lore and recurring concepts from the game series. However, Etrian Odyssey is known for its lore being sparse and open to speculation, so much of the details provided in this story are exactly that—a fan’s speculation and personal expansion of the lore. This story was also inspired by and written as part of HereBeTreasure's Fast Food Frontpage Competition, enjoy some simple dungeon exploration plot and whatever else pops up from this.

I, Mor-eldal: The Necromancer Thief
As a budding little necromancer, I soon discovered that the world of city people is complicated. When my master kicked me out of the cave, he warned me not to talk about my “dark” magic, because people here don't like the undead. I am not really an undead, I just have a skeleton hand, but it is better to be careful. Anyway, that's not my biggest worry. In the Black Dagger brotherhood, I learn a lot of things, such as illusionist magic, which turns out to be quite handy to survive in this maze of streets: in the Cat Quarter, we have thugs of all kinds that are best avoided. But we also have good people, goodhearted “gwaks”, as we say around here. Little did I know that I would soon be caught up in an infamous traffic that would entangle my life even more. With a mix of lighthearted adventure and picaresque, this story narrates the hectic life of a good-spirited street child and his companions in a medieval urban fantasy setting with some nineteenth-century influences. Updates Mondays and Fridays. This is a Creative Commons By work. It is a translation of a trilogy I wrote in Spanish between 2017 and 2018.
