《The Pokémon Entity Force》Late Night Practice

Another little excerpt that I didn't really plan for.

"Candela, are you okay?! The Rangers are on their way!"

"I'm fine, Bernard...but it was him."

"That damn asshole! I'll get him! He even scared you so bad you didn't eat your cake!"

"Wait, no!"

*NOM*

"BLEARGH! Ugh! What is that?! That tastes disgusting!"

"Well. I guess he doesn't like you so it would taste bad."

"What do you mean?"

"The cakes here are made using a Pokémon's Move. If the person who ordered cake likes someone, when that someone eats it, it will taste delicious."

"No wonder. Hey, what are you doing?"

"Trying it. I...I think I want to know...how he truly feels about me."

"It tastes bad, right? Yeah, I almost cried, too."

"No, it tastes delicious...It's actually the best thing I've ever eaten..."

Shit, that was bad of me. I totally freaked her out. How was I supposed to know this power would scare people? Then again, no one ever goes near Murkrow’s hall whenever he is stationed there. I might just get rid of the stairs leading to B1 floor and leave Murkrow in front of the elevator.

I can hear sirens and yelling, better get back home. But I’m not meant for running and I still have to get all the way across this side of the city.

This cake taste like shit. Doesn’t help that it’s as soggy as a wet towel.

Now I’m bored again. Wait a minute, I know that I can do something similar to Murkrow with the intimidation, but it’s not a move or an ability. It’s more like straight up fear. Is that my power? I guess I will go downstairs and practice.

POV CHANGE

“Hello, I am Ranger Henry and this is my Junior Assistant Kendra. Please tell us what happened.”

There he goes again, with the stupid introduction. Whatever, I need to focus on the case.

This is too weird. About 10 days ago, a massive attack on Team Valor’s base happened. Then pretty much the next day, over in Fumere City, Team Mystic’s base was attacked. Both had a similarity.

Team Rocket.

Now we are looking for clues about this new event that happened just this morning. Candela, a member of Team Valor that was involved in the first case, was attacked by the assailant that shot and killed the ten men at the first scene. Now he appears in the middle of broad daylight wearing a Golbat mask trying to walk around without drawing suspicion? How ridiculous.

But Mr. Kenson won’t tell me why we don’t just storm his house with a warrant and arrest him. I hate talking to people, so that was what Mr. Kenson was supposed to help me with. It’s also what he’s doing right now. But I just spend all my time looking at the evidence. In fact, this doesn’t seem to be a normal scene. He orders food for the victim, tries to help her, and then leaves after paying.

He wanted to show off a Pokémon, but it had a strange power that affected all the people within a 25 foot radius. Seeing that he was causing trouble for the victim, he recalled his Pokémon and tried to help. How is this a bad guy? Were we wrong?

No, not necessarily. Apparently, he all but confessed to being the ‘monster’ that attacked the Mystic base. We Rangers were led to believe that it was orchestrated by Team Magma, so we were surprised that Team Rocket had made an appearance instead. We had arrested many of both Team Mystic, which included the Branch Head and their scientists which were conducting illegal experiments on Pokmon, and Team Valor. But that doesn’t excuse this Cole from his actions.

He must still pay for his crimes. Judging from the evidence and the testimonies from eyewitnesses, there’s nothing really that we can arrest him for here. But 10 murders and destruction of private property and government property should be enough. He could also be linked to other possible murders around this side of the city. Yet we still don’t arrest him.

Mr. Kenson is looking this way.

“Kendra, let’s go. We got all we can from here.”

“Are we finally going to his house?”

“Nope. He’s not there. We already got all we could from there. Didn’t amount to much, just some trash.”

“But forensics can see what he did from the trash.”

“Yeah, we could tell he ate junk food and wasted away until about two weeks ago. That was the time of the poképal distribution. My guess is he focused entirely on becoming a trainer. I don’t know when he was approached by Team Rocket, but it couldn’t have been that long after.”

“Oh…why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because you met him before.”

“What? Really?”

“Yep. He was the fifth person at the poképal distribution final. You know, the fat one. Since you might have been connected to him in some way, we couldn’t allow you to involve yourself.”

“But how could I have known him?”

“Because of the peer review process. You were the only one to pass him and he was the only one to pass you. Likewise, he was the only one to get a pass from you and you were the only one to receive a pass from him.”

“What?! That damn thing?! We were supposed to check if the person was a good Pokémon trainer candidate. He was the only one to accurately answer the process behind an ice type’s advantage over a ground type, as well as show keen battle strategies and knowledge.”

“And that’s probably the reason he passed you. You were both the only ones to do so.”

“Mr. Kenson, I don’t think this was really fair.”

“Please, you don’t have to be so formal, Kendra, just Henry is fine.”

“And you don’t have to be so informal, Mr. Kenson, just Parkett is fine.”

We hop into the squad car and drive off. We drive by the new radio building being renovated when I see a familiar body type walking into the building.

It was him! Cole! He was in that building! I couldn’t let Mr. Kenson know, or he’d never let me go. He’s definitely hiding something from me. I have to do this as soon as possible.

Several hours later, after finally clocking out and getting away from all those reports, I made my way to the radio building. The first floor was always open to customers and fans, since there was a 24 hour cafeteria and a late night bar as well.

The gift shop was also open, where they had plush dolls of a Raticate with a Spearow on it. How strange. But cute, too. There was a pillow in the shape of an Ekans sleeping around a Koffing, a series of pictures with a Gastly or Haunter in each one, and a sort of accessory that fits on a person’s shoulder with a Murkrow and Golbat resting comfortably. Apparently, there was a mysterious owner that let his Pokémon wander the building.

There were little children’s books about the man where he would just sit there and play with these Pokémon. What’s with this place? It has only been a week, but they are building up on this mysterious owner? How strange.

I walk into the elevator, only to see the first, third, and roof floors are the only ones lit up. I sneak my way over to the employee’s elevator when someone finally got off of it and notice that the B1 and the fifth floor are still not lit up. That was when I sensed a terrifying energy coming from below. I exit the elevator, since only people with keys can make it operate, and try to find the stairs leading down. I found them way out of the way. No one was over here, but the energy only gets heavier. It gets to the point that it hurts for me to continue.

Thankfully, something happens and the energy disappears. I make my way downstairs and see a long hallway with the light from the elevator shining in the distance. I see the shadow of what looks like two Pokémon standing there. Aren’t they a Raticate and Spearow? What are they doing down here?

I go to pull out my poképal, but stop when I see a person walk over to them from around the corner. He bends down and pets them before getting in the elevator and leaving. The two Pokémon react well, as they chitter and giggle as best as Pokémon can. I quickly go back upstairs to see the elevator light pointing at the fifth floor.

This person was the owner! I couldn’t tell who he was, but he looked strong! I was kind of shocked, since he looked kind of familiar! Who was he?! I couldn’t just stay here, I had to find out who he is! Since he’s the owner, he probably has the special key that allows full access to the building. I have to get it!
