Chapter Fifteen

Li Feng and Lam Bai’s room is about the same size as Li Feng’s room at the family estate, except a little longer. On the left side of the room, from the entrance, there are two beds against the wall. Each bed has sheets and a pillow, washed, and a small table at the end. The table between the beds has a partially melted candle on it, the flame extinguished. At the far end of the room, there is a square window letting in light. On the right side of the room, there are two chests and two racks for hanging clothes.

“Thank you for playing along with me back there, young master,” Lam Bai closes the door behind them and bows, thanking Li Feng.

“Ah, it’s no problem,” Li Feng says and places himself on the bed closest to the door. Since Lam Bai is carrying his luggage, he doesn’t have anything to organize before he can lay down. “Oh, and please, just call me Feng while we are staying here.”

“I can’t do that,” Lam Bai says and walks further into the room. She places Li Feng’s luggage on the next opposite from his bed, then her own luggage on the chest opposite from her bed. “The young master is the young master.”

“I never understood why you keep calling me ‘young master’,” Li Feng says. “Neither my brothers nor the other servants do, at least when they think I can’t hear them.”

“That might be so,” Lam Bai says, unpacking Li Feng’s luggage first. “But I won’t let the other young masters or servants change the way I feel about you, young master.”

“But I so easily call you Bai, when the others would just say ‘Servant’. Li Feng says. “I will start to feel bad if you don’t call me by my given name, too.”

“How about, young master Feng?” Lam Bai asks, hanging Li Feng’s clothes.

“It’s a start,” Li Feng settles the issue and waits for Lam Bai to finish unpacking.
