《Soul Blood (*On Hold*)》Twenty-Six: The Dathow Han Accords

"Seventh, two noble families shall offer up one young woman each of marriageable age and suitable temperament to join the Royal Harem. The Concubine's family will be offered 300,000 Ruis a year every year until the Concubine's death. Should the Concubine be promoted to Consort, an additional 200,000 Ruis shall be offered. Should the Concubine/Consort birth a royal prince or princess, a gift of 100,000 Ruis shall be given in accordance with the East's beliefs of gender equality," Lucas read the revised point aloud for the Eastern party to hear. There was clear disgruntlement among them, but none of them voiced their protests.
Peter had been surprised when a second woman had come in addition to Eloise. Eloise had already expressed the night before that she would join his Harem, but she had not been confident of the others. The other woman was closer in age to Saorise if not older, and held herself with a pride that Peter had seen on all of the Easterners at one point or another. Her eyes were piercing, almost frightening, and her features were sharp and angular. She had been introduced as Selene Vallore. Selene had offer little more explanation than that, and the way she positioned herself in the room, behind Saorise just as Eloise had done, but to the left rather than the right. Clearly, despite being older, Selene trusted Eloise's judgement just as much as she did Saorise's.
Peter turned his eyes on Saorise, she still appeared pissed at him. He couldn't exactly blame any of them for it. Though he did commend the Easterners for doing their best to move past it rather than holding a grudge, a lot of other countries would have used his actions as an excuse to start the war up again.
"Is this point to the East's satisfaction?" asked Peter.

Saorise stared at Peter a moment. If it had been the night before when he'd felt all too humbled, perhaps he would have gulped at such a weighted gaze, but this time, sitting on the opposite side of the negotiations table, he found the resolve to meet her gaze. After a moment, she turned to look up and down the line of Eastern representatives for any protests. When she received none, she sighed and sat up straighter in her seat.
"It appears, King Peter, that we have reached an agreement," said Saorise, "That is if you see nothing else wrong with the terms".
Peter gave a small smile in return, "I believe these negotiations are concluded then? Now if we can prepare the stamps to sign-"
"We cannot sign before our people are returned," Saorise interrupted him.
Peter paused. He understood completely why she would ask for such a thing. Not only were their nobles among his prisoners, but she also had to consider the fact that he would not keep his word once the Treaty was signed. That the prisoners would meet with 'accidents' on their return home.
The atmosphere in the room became tense as the representatives of either side considered each other.
Awkwardly, Lucas cleared his throat, "I'm afraid until the treaty is signed-"
"Both of your concubines have offered to return to your camp with you for the return of all prisoners," Saorise stated, "It is the East's way of promising that once our people and the majority of our army are returned, we will not attack and will instead honour the Treaty we have negotiated here. Also, with the return of many of our missing noble parties we will be able to properly elect an Eastern Representative to present to you, say, in three days-time at an official signing of The Dathow Han Accords".

"The Dathow Han Accords?" asked Peter.
Saorise shrugged, "You may rename it as you like, but seeing as the East will no longer exist as a power following the signing of this document, I thought it prudent to name it after the place it was signed rather than the two peoples who signed it".
Peter considered her words. It was true, naming the document the East-Wendolan Treaty would be like a slap in the face to any Easterner who read it. The document that would take away their identity as a people.
"The Dathow Han Accords it is," Peter stated, "As for your request...we shall return the nobles this evening. The remainder of the Eastern army shall be returned in groups whilst you discuss your representative. You have my word that they shall all be returned before the signing of the Accords".
Saorise sighed, but nodded, "Let us hope we can trust your word from now on...my King".
Saorise bowed her head respectfully as she rose, and, though reluctant, the other Eastern Nobles followed suit, filing out as Saorise turned to Eloise and Selene, taking their hands reassuringly.
They did not speak a word as Peter and his party rose as well. Neither did Peter gloat or seem arrogant about the new courtly respect he had been given from the Easterners. Saorise simply gave them a small smile of encouragement, then she turned and followed her party out, not bothering to give a glance back towards him or the other Wendolans.
Peter let out a breath as she left the room, then he turned to face Eloise and Selene.
"Thank you," Peter said to them, and he could feel the surprise in those around him, including Eloise and Selene, "No matter what happens from here, please remember that I am thankful for your decision".
Eloise and Selene said nothing for a moment before Selene gave a small smile and turned to Eloise.
"I suppose you were right, he is not entirely irredeemable," Selene stated. She then turned back to the rest of the representatives behind Peter, "Now, which of you fine gentleman shall be helping with our luggage?"
Selene made a move towards the door, and after a short nod from Peter, Lucas moved to follow. Eloise waited, watching the others file out before she turned to look at Peter. Peter gave a short and gentlemanly bow, spreading his hand wide towards the door.
"My lady".
Eloise gave an amused smile, "I hope anyone who inspects or handles our luggage is aware that there are weapons in there".
Peter sighed, "You know that-"
"Oh, we know," Eloise stated, "The weapons we bring are mostly gifts or heirlooms. We were going to either plead with you to have it stored in the Royal Vault or hand it to the Eastern Representative to take care of. They will not enter the Harem Palace, as requested".
Peter nodded, "I'll have Lucas make the arrangements for them to be placed in the Vault. We will be family when we return and our wedding takes place so it seems strange to hand off your belongings to someone who may not even be related to you".
"If you say so," said Eloise, giving a very Wendolan-like curtsy, just like the court ladies he'd grown up with, "Your Majesty".
Peter watched as Eloise then moved to follow the rest of his party. He had been prepared to train his new Eastern wives in court manners and traditions. Clearly however, as had been explained to him before, the Easterners were far more aware of them than foreigners were of the East.

A Sinner's Eden
The Earth of the future is united under a single government, but not all things are well. The shape of the playing field may be changed, but the powerful still rule the weak. And those who do not conform with the rest of society are exiled to another world. A world that not even the technology of the future managed to tame.It should have been humanity's New World but ended up as nothing more than a penal colony. A place where the exiled are sent to die. Motivated by revenge, Magnus sets out on a quest to bring his own justice to his enemies. For that purpose, he is willing to go further than most others. But then he learns that if he truly wishes to change things, he can only find his answers beyond the gate. Having lived most of her life as an exile, Astra is a woman of few interests aside from survival and climbing the ranks of her clan.To achieve those goals, she certainly won't be squeamish when a chance literally falls into her lap, or will she? ——————————————————————————————— I am trying to go with a survival/medieval setting in this one. People from a technologically advanced society are thrown into a world where they can't maintain their tech. They are forced to rely on medieval technology where they have to make do with the limited resources they have and what little of their old technology is still working. Their gene manipulation allows them to have something akin to superpowers, but that doesn't help much against the monsters of their new world. Not sure yet whether sufficiently advanced technology will be discovered later on to count as magic. ——————————————————————————————— Author's Comment: I was asked about reading my work on other sites. The answer is simple: Currently, I am not active in any other networks than royalroadl.com. Only here, I correct mistakes and errors. If you read it anywhere else and have to pay for it or have to deal with an annoying amount of advertisement, You Are Being Betrayed. You would do good if you make other people in that network aware of it. This is a free project of mine for the purpose of having fun. And if people try to make money with it you shouldn't bother visiting their website. The only one whom I actually allowed to have my work on his website is Armaell who invested the time to compile them into pdf. (http://armaell-library.net/author/andur)

Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
