《The Rise of the Humans (An Apocalyptic Litrpg)》Chapter 3: The shop

Suddenly, I was in a long mall with many shops on both sides. At the top of my vision was a countdown of thirty minutes, most likely to stop anyone from staying in the shop forever. I walked by a few of the shops until I saw a shop called Macy’s Medical Supplies. I opened the door and saw many strange devices around me.
“Hello and welcome to Macy’s Medical Supplies, how can I help you today?” The high pitched voice stumbled across the words as if surprised. I looked around the shop but did not see the person who the voice belonged to.
“Hi,” I said, “I need something to stop a person from losing too much blood.”
“I’m Macy nice to meet you! How much time do you have?” She asked.
“What do you mean?”
“The system has different items that do the same thing but at different rates. I could give you the five-second syringe, but those are expensive around a few million, or I could give you the 24 hour one. I see you have 35 dollars. As such, The best you can get is the 12 hour syringe. Your friend should be able to survive. By the way, isn’t the game so fun!”
“Let’s see here. Today I woke up thinking today would be a fun new day and since then I have been in mortal danger. I am trying to save someone’s life, who I don’t know, and the human race will probably be extinct soon. So yeah, it was very fun,” I said trying to sound as sarcastic as possible. “Also, How can you understand me?”
“The game it’s about fun! It wouldn’t be fun if you couldn’t understand anyone else. Here is another example of the game being fun for all! Your planet’s interface was modelled off of some form of entertainment that was popular on your planet. So almost anything you thought of there can be used here! Not quite the same way, need to make it more entertaining, so many things are changed, but the core ideas are the same!” That was bad news. If I knew one thing about humans, It is that we like to put world-destroying devices into many games, movies, or whatever we make.

“I’m so glad you’re enjoying the game! While you are in the shop go to the leaderboards! Then you will be able to see if your species is able to survive! Have fun!” she exclaimed, and went to a desk in the back of the room. As I was leaving the store, two other people were walking inside. They both were giant men and seemed unfazed by the situation that they were in. When I looked above them, I saw that they were both level five.
“How many are alive near you?” one of them asked. I scanned them. They had found a better weapon than my pole, and were armed with swords. They must have been doing well.
“Including me, there’s three, one is badly injured but should be able to make it,” I said, kicking myself as I hadn’t meant to answer him.
“We are just seeing who else there is here and if they have any tips, everyone seems to have had the same experience, wake up, get attacked by some monsters, kill one or two, and come to look around the shop. Also, most of them are level one so you’re doing better than most.”
“For once video games is a life skill,” I replied, “That is the only thing that I’m good at.”
“While you’re here,” the second one continued, “Look at the leaderboards. It’s bad.” With that, they went over to Macy and started to ask her questions.
I left the store and started walking around looking for the leaderboards and looking at the shops. Some shops were tiny with only one or two items for sale, while others were bigger than mansions. Eventually, I found the leaderboards, and there was a large crowd around it. When I got there I realised exactly what the men had meant.

“That is not good,” I said eventually. The two men I had seen earlier were the highest levelled players in the world. I was in the top five million. But what I was referring to was the population counter. It was going down. Fast. The millions mark seemed to be going down once every second. One of those people could be Niels.
I tried finding a way out of the shop. Eventually, I thought exit shop, and I was once again standing in the house next to Niels. Quickly I injected the syringe into the woman and explained what had happened to Niels.
“How will we survive if so few people can?” he asked.
“I don’t know,” I responded, after a long pause. “It’s almost night though so you can sleep. I’ll keep watch first and then I’ll wake you after a while and we will switch.”
I was glad I took the first watch. There was too much on my mind to fall asleep. I looked behind me and saw that the woman was in much better shape.
“Hi,” I said.
“Hi,” she croaked back. Talking seemed to hurt a lot for her. I looked over at Niels and saw that he was already sleeping. With not much else to do, I opened my character sheet.

One Eyed Ghoul; a Tokyo Ghoul fanfic.
A for want of a nail fic I write in between moments when I'm working on my original story. Originally posted on FanFiction.net, but brought over here to allow people to compare it to my original work if they wish. The premise is as follows: Hide decides to pay Ken an early visit in the hospital. He cares too much to let his friend recover alone. A tiny change to the sequence of events, an entirely different story. Some bloody scenes, but no worse than the original story offered.
