《Child of Terra》Chapter 10- Cake

"Muu," huffed the small hybrid as he stared upon a cake sitting high atop a shelf. Of which was a dark brown in colour, with much of the same coloured frosting decorating its sides with spiraled fractals all over. Someone, one of the cooks, called it a "Chocolate Cake", and gave a small sample to the child before placing it within a glass container atop the shelf. Whereupon he did huff and slump forward whilst staring up at anyone and anything that passed by him with a hopeful gaze. However, he was either ignored, or simply told, "No," whenever he desired more of the dessert.
"Muu," he repeated once more, just as a pair of colourful kits pounced upon his small body.
"Hi Nox!" crowed the twins Maya and Mia, as they batted his tails and lightly chewed on his ears. However, they stopped when he did not respond normally, and instead whined greatly until he took note of their presence.
"Huh?" Nox's eyes blinked a few times whilst shaking his head quickly with the ears slightly perked. Of which then relaxed against his head as he spoke softly, "Oh. Hi Maya. Mi Mia."
"What's wrong, Nox?" mewed Maya whilst her sister snuggled into his right side.
"There's a cake up there, and no one wants to help me get another slice." The hybrid's right paw pointed towards the shelf which contained the dessert and its glass container. To which the twins stared upon it with widened eyes and perked ears, but the latter drooped as they noted the height of the item.
As to where they were, it was simply a large pantry full of fresh and dried foods from fruits and vegetables, to dried meats and several wheels of white and orange cheeses. Of course, there were other edibles that they could sneak away with, but all eyes were upon the cake that was high above. This caused the pair to slump against the sides of the hybrid with a great huff, as all three huffed with a, "Muu."
"What are you three doing?" came a new voice from behind their persons, along with the many light tappings of something slowly coming towards their persons. To which they turned around slowly, and noted the small figure of a male Arachne called Anasi slowly coming towards their person. "I thought you three would be in the playroom, not the main kitchen's pantry." His person slowly made its way around their small bodies until he was in front of them. Whereupon he did squat down in order to look upon their features with great curiosity. "So? Why are you three here?"

"Nox found a cake, and wants to eat some," piped up Mia as she was in the process of trying to nuzzle her way under the hybrid who was confused as to why she was doing so.
"A what?" Anasi cocked his head towards his right shoulder. Of whom found Maya pointing up high upon a tall shelf, where he did spy the brown coloured cake within a glass container. "Ah, a chocolate cake."
"How did you know that?" questioned Nox as his round eyes turned towards his friend in surprise.
"I've seen some," muttered the Arachne as he turned his attention towards Nox, "Why do you want to eat it?"
"'Cause it tastes really, really good," the child licked his chops in remembrance of the treat as his tails slowly swished across the wood of the pantry floor. However, a thought crossed his mind. One of which caused his male friend to shiver as the hybrid's own eyes fells upon his person whilst his small body rose, much to the dismay of Mia who squeaked softly. "You're a spider! You can climb up there and get it."
"Nuh-uh," grumbled the other as he crossed his arms over his small, dark chest, "Last time I helped you with anything, I was scolded by your parents for encouraging such behaviour."
"Yeah, and?" smiled Nox who lightly hopped around his friend, "Besides, there's cake to be had. Don't you want some? It's really, really good." Slivers of saliva escaped his small muzzle, which was wiped away just as quickly as it appeared, "If you help out, you can get a slice or two. Enough to fill your belly for a whole week." this last sentence was greatly exaggerated by way of him expanding his forearms outwards as he stood up. However, such an expressions caused him to walk backwards, which allowed Mia to pounce upon his person with a gleeful yip.
Whereupon they did bark, whine, and yip as the pair tumbled around for a short time before stopping with Nox on the bottom. Mia, on the other hand, posed atop his body with her small, furred chest expanded forwards with the expression of triumph. However, instead of grumbling over losing to her person, his tails wiggled quickly across the floor as his eyes stared upon Anasi, "So? Will you help? I want to give Maya and Mia some, 'cause I don't think they've had any yet."

This led to the other noticing the twins shaking their heads as their own tails swished back and forth across the floor with great excitement. Whereas the one under such gazes gave a defeated sigh, "Fine."
"Yay!" crowed the trio who pounced upon their friend with great and fluffy hugs, then released Anasi just as he slowly skittered across the floor and towards the first of many wooden pillars which supported the shelves above. Whereupon he did place his spindle-like legs on its surface, one by one, and ascended slowly. The others, on the other hand, simply scampered over to the bottom of the support, and watched as their friend walked upon the wood with widened eyes and tails slowly swishing back and forth.
This would go on for what seemed like an eternity, the young Arachne finally climbed onto the shelf with the cake. Of which appeared to be missing half of it as he skittered around towards the backside of the container. However, the moment he left the trio's sight, did he hear the soft whines of his friends. The noise caused him to peer over the edge where they stared upon his person with large, watery eyes.
Much like the rest of the world, this one was not immune to the "Puppy-Dog Stare", and had often called such a gaze from the trio the "Gaze of Doom". This was due to the fact that although Nox was incredibly adorable for some odd reason, such a stare always increased one hundred fold whenever the twins mirrored his expression. Whereupon the recipient would always become forced to do their bidding in order to remove themselves from such a gaze. What is more, they did not seem to understand why or even how such a thing worked, as they were immune to their own adorable natures, as well as everyone else's.
Quite troubling, to be sure, but no matter.
For after receiving such a gaze, did the Arachne sigh heavily, turn around, and slowly activated his webbing fluid. Of which shot out in a thick rope, and latched onto the hybrid's back. Yes. He did yip in distress at the webbing, but calmed down soon afterwards when he remembered who the strands belonged to, simply hung limply as he was hoisted off the ground, and dragged onto the shelf. Where he did scrape of the white substance from his fur just as Mia appeared, which she repeated the process until Maya scrambled over the side.
"Cake," mewed Nox with widened eyes, who crawled over to the container, and lightly shoved it back towards his friends. Of whom then crowded around the glass container, searching for a way to open it.
"How do we get into it?" asked Maya as she pawed at the glass, whilst her sister pulled out a few missed strands from her backside, "I don't see a lid."
"I think the whole thing's the lid," spoke up Anasi, who pointed at a small orb of glass atop the container itself with a small shrug of his dark shoulders, "Just have to lift it, I guess."
"Okay, then let's lift it," proclaimed the hybrid as his paws felt around the bottom in order to start the process whilst his tails twitched sporadically. Whereupon he was soon joined by the excited twins, and a sighing Arachne as they slowly did lift the cover off to reveal the sweet dessert.
The scent of such a treat was heavenly to the children, as they clustered around the food, and slowly took small handfuls out of it in order to enjoy the flavour present within. Once they had a taste for it, however, they soon dug in, eating as though they were animals of instinct, rather than intelligence. Which only lasted until the last crumb was eaten, and the four laid back in their spots whilst patting their large, round bellies.
This led to Nox looking outwards, towards the kitchen proper with a look of panic. Of which was picked up by the twins, whilst their other friend was sleeping off a food coma. "What's wrong Nox," inquired Mia, who was the most susceptible of the Hybrid's emotions. Even going as far as to mirror them when the pair was separated by long distances.
"How are we going to get down? Anasi is sleeping, and... and..." Which led to him crying quite loudly as the thought of them not being able to escape the shelf of the pantry horrified his young mind. Yes. The twins also realised such a thing, and soon their own cries of distress mingled with Nox's.
