《The Returner’s One Millionth Life》Chapter 4- Eye for an Arm

Renir has always been very cautious, and as such despite never feeling any danger from the "human" before him, he decided to hide and watch anyway.

Yet something unexpected happened, the human realised he was hidingand found him.

Despite this however, Renir still couldn't find the "human" to be all that much of a threat, for one main reason. These "humans" were completely incapable of using magic before the end, and because of this Renir figured that no matter how skilled the human infront of him may be the difference in magical skill would be the thing that desides the outcome of their battle.

However, despite this difference Renir still could not seem to defeat the "human" infront of him.

 ...

The battle began very slow with both opponents testing the other's skills, and because of this neither got anything aside from small cuts and bruises for the first few minutes.

Satisfied with what they learned in the past few minutes both sides hopped away, expanding the distance in between them by about 5 meters, and despite the their movement which was neaarly impossible to track with the human eye neither of them was even breathing hard after thier exchange.

the wolf said while beginning to initiate the true start of the battle.

the man replied while bowing, before dodging a spell the wolf sent at him while he was replying.

With the man's dodge signaling the return to the fight they both jumped forward at speeds even faster than the previous exchange.

A few ten meters away in a broken building stood two women, one staring expressionlessly at the fight, almost seeming unimpressed, while the other seemed to have forgotten all about her shivering as she stared, jaw agape, at the fight.

"Is that guy really a human," the stunned girl mumbled under her breath as she watched the man and the wolf jump apart while calmly staring at each other.

"That is a question I cannot give an answer to," the exprestionless woman answered without looking away from the fight while the man quickly dodged to the side as something neither of them could see wizzed past him and instantly froze a building behind him.

A moment later, in a movement that neither of the women could follow, the man and the wolf both closed the gap inbetween them and once again tried their best to kill each other.

It's been such a long time since I had a truly good fight that I had almost forgotten feeling. The pounding of your heart, the rush as all of your instincts kick into over drive, and the dance you and your opponent alone share, a dance involving just the two of you and that could end with any slight mistake.

As me and the wolf nearly twice my height in front of me jump back into the fight I once again begin to respect the strength of this Renir. Despite his size he moves with a nimbleness matching any dancer, the explosive strength that far surpasses mine, and most impressive his use of magic.

This wolf's magic is truly terrifying, an invisible and formless projectile that instantly freezes anything that it touches, and he always fires them at the perfect moments, often catching an opening and causing me to have to dodge awkwardly. Afterwards his teeth, coated in the same magic, comes down on me so fast that on multiple occasions I have almost lost an arm.

And despite all of this it is even harder to counter attack because of how stupidly cautious this wolf is. yet because of thatthis fight is just, "So much FUN," I shout out loud while I use a faint to create an opening to try and slice at one of the wolf's legs but still fail.

'This man is dangerous,' the wolf thinks as he is forced to retreat after the man almost takes one of his legs off.

After fighting for about ten minutes Renir had confermed that the man was both slower and weaker than the wolf, and that his magic was not even comparable to the wolf's, yet despite this the man had not only managed to avoid all of the wolf's attacks with nothing more than a single inch deep gash in his side, and yet despite the constant pressure Renir put the man under he still had managed to almost injure the wolf on many occasions.

But by far the scariest part of the man was the efficiency at which he learned. As the fight went on the man began to dodge the wolf with less effort, allowing him to throw out more counter attacks and on one occasion he almost took one of the wolf's foreleg.

He also managed to use more and more of his own magic to attack and counter the wolf's own magic, and while it was not nearly as refined or powerful as the wolf's it was slowly improving as the fight drew on, with it getting to the point that the wolf was certain that if it continued for to long it would pose a threat the wolf himself.

Realising this the wolf decided that if the fight went on any longer then the wolf would have almost no chance of winning, so the usually cautious son of the Ice Wolf King came up with a foolish plan in order to end the fight quickly.

Setting on his plan of attack the Ice Wolf Prince began to channel as much magic as he could into one spell simply known as blizzard, a one hit KO spell with a large range and ridiculous cast time.

The man, noticing the spell, began casting his own spell as he kept fighting the wolf.

After the minute or so it took to cast the spell the wolf jumped away from the man and released a large wave of magic, freezing everything in it's way.

After noticing the spell coming his way the man quickly released his own spell that covered himself in fire right as the spell reached him.

As the spell passed him he was immediatly attacked by a wolf that came out of the fog created by blizzard hitting the man's spell.

In order to avoid the wolf the man jumped up and went to kill it before realising that the wolf before him is much smaller than the one he had been fighting before.

Feeling a tingle from his Death Sense on his neck he quickly flung his sword arm behind him and felt it hit something before using the leverage he got from that to turn himself around before seeing the wolf with his sword in its eye and opening up it's jaws in order to bite down on him.

Not being a big fan of being eaten the man pulled his sword out of the wolf's eye and used the momentum to fling himself backwards. However, despite the man's best efforts the wolf still did not give up, and finding the opportunity to kill the man lost he decided to go for the next best thing and bit off the arm that was holding the man's sword.

The man and wolf both jumped back inorder to create distance between them before the man used fire magic to close his wound and stop the bleeding.

the man said to the wolf while inspecting his missing arm.

the wolf admits sounding a little disappointed.

the man said as if to provoke Renir.

the man says while beginning to walk away, "But I will be back for my sword."

"You won't have a choice in the matter," the man states as he beginns to cast a spell.

A second later the entire area begins to fog up as the man heats up the air with his fire magic.

Renir asks as he activated his divine sense and noticed something distressing.

"Nope, but this will," the man replies before he gets drowned out by the noise of the wind as a tornado appears inbetween the two thanks to the man's magic.

the man says in the wolfs head using mind magic due to the noise of the wind drowning out his voice,

While heading over to where the women were hiding I turn on my elemental sense to look at the wolf struggle with the tornado I kicked up in order to get away.

The first one to notice me was my apathetic atomaton who quickly pulled her fellow onlooker over while she was still gawking at the frozen buildings and tornado just a few blocks down the street.

Snapping out of her daze the woman stopped looking at the street before noticing my missing arm and apparantly not sure how to react didn't say anytihng and just began to walk away.

Fair enough.

Following her I told her that we might want to pick up the pace since I'm not sure how long my tornado will be able to hold the wolf.

Seemingly spooked by that statment she began to half jog out of the area as me and my assitant behind me followed closely behind.
