Chapter 2

The whistling of arrows can be heard accompanied by distant screams. The clanging of metal is deafening but what more, the pounding of my heart. Beneath the opening of my helmet I gaze around at the battlefield… broken sabers, spears and swords can be seen strewn across the battlefield… figures can be seen clashing with great intensity… red and blue banners flutter in the background… I start to question my sanity in all this…

The armor weighs heavy…sweat forms on my brow as blood seeps from the edges of my mouth. I attempt to disengage from the enemy before me, but with my body nearly reaching its limits let alone escaping i'm worried I might just trip over my own feet.

As I go to parry the enemies sword I instead deflect a stray arrow… perhaps my years of sword practice paid off… of course you don't kid yourself... with all the projectiles flying everywhere it was bound to happen. However now the soldier in front of you looks astonished… he seems to have forgotten to continue the motion of his swing.. or I would most certainly have been dead.

An armored figure appears beside me and before the enemy can react he is cut down…quite a frightening sight… I glance over.. a blue coat of arms… an ally. As I take a breath to calm my nerves the surroundings seem to have quieten down as the enemies ranks part… a silver-armored man holding a long spear walks out. My eyes focus on the figure… "that man… he seems to be an expert…" I mutter to myself. I decide its best to distance myself as far away as possible from such a foe I hear the armored figure next to me say "quite right, let's take him together!"… the gaze of the spear-wielding man's shifts towards me as the look in his eyes hardens. No doubt he has locked onto me and the armored figure.

Just like that, I realise I won't survive this battle. I start to consider whether this "comrade" is actually here to get me killed. While at first I seem to hold no strategic value, perhaps someone must have recognized my not-so impressive sword skills and wishes to cut me down, before a genius such as myself matures. Nodding my head in affirmation as if this is the only plausible solution. The spear expert seems to take the nod as an acceptance to duel. He approaches and I come to realization that there is no more time for idle thoughts... I will have to fight.

I prepare myself… steeling my resolve.. I manage to stand up a bit more confidently. I adjust my stance.. one of the many stances students learn from the War God Academy. "Okay Fang.. you can do this! Just like the instructors taught you… left foot forward… wait does it matter if I'm left handed…" a spear pierces forward without warning… my eyes contract… it seems I cannot recall anything I learnt from the academy however out of instinct I block with my shield.. a dull thud sounds as I lose my sense of gravity. The might of the blow has lifted me into the air... before I can even think a figure materialises in the air directly above me… "this can't be good", I cry inwardly. I hastily raise my sword.

BOOM!.. a dust shockwave emanates outwards as a figure crashes into the ground…At this moment, on a cliff not too far away… two dark-robed figures appear…

To be Continued.
