《Song of the Unborn》Bonus Chapter - An Apprehensive Accord pt. 5

Kraeven took advantage of the chaos caused by the humans.

He got up, sent an unthinkable amount of darkness into his hand, effectively coating Reu in darkness and he began his melee against the red giants.

His attacks tore through bone and flesh alike as the ground he stood on became damp with blood.

Countless humans did their best to kill the giants and even though their efforts were mostly useless, this did give Kraeven the time he needed to deal with the giants one by one.

Hima, on the other hand, took care of any giants who tried escaping from the bloodbath.

With the aid of human’s and velzen alike, they managed to contain the giants who numbered a lethal hundred.

The sun’s light illuminated the utter loss of life that took place near the crater's edge.

.

..

Danon’s mind had long since stopped functioning reasonably.

He, along with everyone on the battlefield, had deduced that the tall dark being was somehow on their side.

He resembled a certain dark lord once spoken of in prophecy, but Danon didn’t care.

He raised his fosblade and charged towards one of the giants who was getting swarmed by countless men.

Danon then bumped into someone.

He raised his sword to attack but stopped when he saw that it was a man from Marf.

The two stared at each other for less than a moment before turning their attention to the giant.

They then began mercilessly hacking away at the giant’s legs and with the help of the velzen’s, they eventually brought it down.

Danon looked around and witnessed the utter chaos of the battlefield.

His fosblade had gotten slightly dimmer, but he threw any concern he had away.

That’s when a blood-soaked being approached him.

The dark being lightly tapped on Danon’s shoulder before gesturing that Danon move backwards.

The dark being moved exaggeratedly and so Danon deduced that the being wanted everyone to retreat.

“Everyone, get back!” Danon yelled.

The men closest to him heeded his words and those who witnessed this moved as well.

Eventually, the remaining red giants stood alone near the corpse ridden platform.

Their faces sported bright smiles, which revealed their jagged teeth.

This was strange as they were practically surrounded.

Humans from both Eslaf and Marf encircled the horde of chaos and the final clash would soon ensue.

Danon took multiple deep breaths before walking out of formation and towards the dark being's side.

“Tell me, dark one. What is your name?” Danon asked as a glorious wind blew above the battlefield.

[Kraeven.]

The dark being said with a smirk.

Danon nodded before pumping all the residual light he had into his fosblade blade.

“Then allow us the honour of a glorious battle.”

.

..

Kraeven didn’t know what the human was saying, but he nodded awkwardly in response before raising his sword.

Silence filled the air and every boot remained firmly planted in the mud.

Kraeven then slowly lowered his sword before uttering the words:

[Aten me.]

The ground rumbled and the world shook as a colossal being arose from the depths of the world.

Its gigantic tusks almost reached the heavens and its large hooves dug deep into the earth as its found its footing.

The human next to Kraeven must have seen this as some sort of signal because he yelled something and in the next instant, every velzen and human charged towards the chaotic horde.

Kraeven followed suit and dashed towards the beings of chaos.

He was worried that all of the humans would get crushed by the gregnor and so he ordered it to complete a very specific task.

“Crush the denizens of the repository!” He yelled and the creature lumbered towards the inner parts of the crater where a few of the red giants continued to wreak havoc.

Kraeven then spotted a rather tough-looking giant and so he dashed towards it and tried cutting off its head, but the damned thing dodged the attack before kicking Kraeven in the ribs.

At this point, Kraeven was already running low on darkness and so he struggled to even stand after receiving such an attack.

The giant then walked over to him before creating what looked like a blade made from both darkness and light.

It raised its weapon, but it was interrupted by a group of humans, who distracted it.

Kraeven tried standing, but at this point, he was out of fuel.

The giant kicked one of the humans in the face, popping his head in the process, but a ball of black fire hit him in the face before he could kill the other.

Hima descended from above before violently lashing out at the giant, she clawed at its unarmoured skin, resulting in deep gashes from which copious amounts of blood spilt.

Hima then coated herself in black flames before stabbing the giant chest with her hand and pulling out its still-beating heart.

Her eyes then turned to her next target.

One of the few remained giants and everyone watched in awe as Hima launched herself at the giant.

She shredded its legs, forcing it to its knees and minced its face with her extremely fast and lethal slashes.

Her dark form dripped with blood as blood coated her black exoskeleton.

Everyone stared at her as the last giant fell.

The morning sun burned brightly in the sky, but no one knew what to do.

.

..

Davon noticed the state of the battlefield and so he walked up to the saepenar.

“Ahem! I’m no general. I’m no eminence. I’m just a tired man who’d like all this bloodshed to end.” He said, loudly and clearly enough that the possible hundreds of people could hear him.

“Those of you from Marf will return and you’ll talk to your leader prepare peace talks. We from Eslaf will do the same.” Danon said.

“That is not an order I’m issuing. It’s a plea.” Danon said as his fosblade disappeared.

Everyone looked at each other for a moment before lowering their weapons.

“What about the dark lord?” A voice asked.

Everyone turned their attention to a battered man in broken armour.

“He’s gonna pay for what he did right?” The man asked, even as his legs shook.

“Yeah and what about the betrayer and Kalosýni the blue?” Another voice asked.

Soon the entire crater was filled with outraged cries.

“Listen,” Danon said, effectively silencing everyone.

“I cannot guarantee that we’ll all get the justice we want or even the justice we deserve, but I beg that we set that aside and tend to the wounded,” Danon said as the saepenar walked to the dark being's side.

“Lord Kraeven will do what he can to assist you.” She said.

“And why should we believe the words of the likes of you?” A knight asked, sparking even more cries of outrage.

“What do you mean we can't get justice? Our bane is kneeling right there!”

“I say we publicly execute them!”

“Only their deaths will lull the flames of our hatred!”

.

..

Kraeven slowly stood up as the tremors of the footsteps of a certain being shook the ground.

“Let us leave," Kraeven said, his body bruised and broken.

“Yes, my lord,” Hima said as particles of darkness surrounded him.

He drowned out the angered yells and screams directed at him as he teleported Hima and himself right in front of a certain cabin in the woods.

“Mmm?” Kalos sounded as he sat idly on the porch.

He stood up and walked towards Kraeven and Hima. Both of them looked exhausted.

“Hehe, what was it like? Playing hero.” Kalos asked, but Kraeven didn’t respond.

Hima tried getting up, her arms were beyond tired, so she fell back down.

“Yo, Keema. Come here for a sec.” Kalos said and it wasn’t long before a pretty little girl ran out of the cabin.

She wore a pretty blue dress which looked a lot like the strange shirt Kalos wore and her beautiful brown hair was tied to a bun.

The shirt was strange in that it had two holes in the back and had countless stains of varying origin.

“Dump as much darkness as you can into them,” Kalos instructed and Keema raised her hands before letting out a rather large amount of dark particles from her fingertips.

Those particles landed on Kraeven and Hima.

Kalos watched patiently as the two dark beings regained their vitality. Well, to a certain extent.

“Ok, that’s enough,” Kalos said and Keema lowered her arms before running to his side.

Kraeven groaned as he sat himself up.

He then looked up to face Kalos and although the forest around them was green and tranquil, Kraeven could still feel the pain from before.

He could still hear the hatred that spewed from the mouths of the humans.

His eyes trembled as he wondered what would have happened if he hadn’t run away.

Kalos chuckled before kneeling to face Kraeven.

“I saw what you did out there and let me tell you this: they’ll never truly be happy. Especially in the world, I envision.”

“I…” Kraeven tried speaking, but his head lowered as black tears rolled down his face.

“Shh. Don’t worry. It isn’t your duty to save them. I just realized that you really haven’t done much since you first came to this realm. So forget about the state of the world for now. Go and have an adventure or two and look for what makes you happy. Leave the humans to me.” Kalos said as he wrapped his arms around Kraeven, who had broken into a full wail.

He clung to Kalos dearly as he cried.

Keema walked up to Kraeven before gently patting his back.

Kraeven looked up and his dark black eyes met her soft brown ones.

Kalos saw this and let out a fake cough.

“No. Don’t even think about it. Keema is mine. Devote your life to something else.” Kalos said as he stood up.

Kraeven remained silent as Kalos and Keema entered the wooden house.

Kraeven’s eyes then widened after realizing that he had left the velzen on in the crater.

Not just that, there was an entire gregnor roaming about.

Kraeven stood up gently shook Hima awake.

“Hey, get some rest. I’ll be back.” He said to an exhausted Hima as a cloud of darkness enveloped him.

Kraeven then found himself on a certain battlefield.

He raised his hands and sent any dark life forces he could feel into the dark realm while taking care not to attract the attention of the marching humans.

It would seem although they did want an end to the conflict and so they all returned to their respective countries.

Kraeven looked up to find a colossal being that towered over all.

“You can get back into the ground now,” Kraeven said.

[As you command.]

The gregnor bellowed before clawing at the ground.

It then slowly returned to its earthen home.

Kraeven let out a shaky whimper before a cloud of darkness enveloped him.

He then found himself back in front of a certain cabin, where he found Hima sitting on the porch.

Kraeven sat next to her.

The two sat in silence as Kalos and Keema did various noisy things in the house.

“Lord Kraeven.”

“Yes?”

“I think we should spend some time in Nar' Agrun,” Hima suggested as she leaned against the side of the wooden stair rails.

“Yeah. That sounds good.” Kraeven said with a deep sigh.

The afternoon sun gently bathed the forest in its light.

.

..

Danon squinted as he looked for a certain dagger in the mud of the trenches.

The soldiers of Eslaf and the order were already marching back home and rumours were floating around that the advisor had lost his life in the chaos.

Danon didn’t care.

All he wanted was the dagger-

“Yes!” Danon exclaimed as he pulled out a perfect dagger from the mud.

He then crawled onto his feet before climbing out of the trench.

Faveen’s body had been transported to the capital, along with the body’s of every other soldier that had fallen.

Danon sighed as he made his way towards the main force which was marching back to Eslaf.

He would have looked for his comrades, but he was far too tired-

“Danon!” A voice called from further up the path.

Three men then approached Danon, their faces covered in mud and blood and their armour worn beyond words.

“Are you ok?”

“What happened? We were deeper in the crater when those things appeared."

“Where’s the captain?”

Such things were said by Norn, Vael and Trommer.

“The captain… she’s-"

“She’s what? Speak up.”

“Shut up! Let him speak.” Norn said after shoving Vael to the side.

“She’s gone,” Danon said as he tightly clung to the weapons in his hands.

Vael and the other fell silent for a moment.

“Oh…” Norn said, his voice a whimper.

Danon walked past his comrades as the sun slowly set.

His steps were heavy, but he walked regardless.

He needed to get back home.

.

..

Danon weaved his way through the chaos stricken city that was Eslaf.

It would seem as though the outcome of the war did not count as a victory for some people and so they took their anger on their fellow man.

Houses burnt and people died, but Danon walked northward regardless.

He eventually arrived at a small house in inner Eslaf to find that it was empty.

He deduced that Vara was at her usual place of work helping the wounded and so he removed his armour, leaving only his leather clothes and made his way back down towards the southern part of Eslaf.

Screams of pain and explosions filled the air, but Danon continued to walk at a rather steady pace.

He eventually arrived at the large building that once housed countless wounded soldiers to find that it was almost deserted.

Danon’s vision blurred as hunger and fatigue ate away at his consciousness.

He noticed several bodies on the floor, but his target was a wounded soldier, resting his head against one of the building's walls.

“Hey, you! Do you know where Vara is?” Danon asked, his voice raspy.

The man looked up at Danon before smiling.

“Hello, knight Danon. I see the goddess still favours you, hehehe.” The man said, even as his bandages oozed with blood.

“I’ve no time for games, tell me where Vara is!” Danon yelled, even though it pained him to speak.

“You mean the heathen? She’s down below-"

Danon grabbed the man by his collar and stared at him as his blue eyes glowed brightly.

“Speak clearly or I will ensure your suffering doubles,” Danon said through teeth that were shut.

“There is a level beneath this one. You’ll find her there.” The man said with a pained grin.

Danon nodded before giving the man some of his light.

He then slowly placed the man down before running towards a certain door.

His vision blurred even further as he opened the door.

His nose picked up on a rather strange scent, but he ignored it as he dashed down the staircase.

He then heard a low noise which only got louder the further down he went.

He eventually arrived at another larger door, which he hurriedly opened.

Danon’s eyes widened as they peered into a rather large chamber.

They focused on a large golden statue at the end.

It was a statue of an evil being, one with four arms, four swords and a set of apathetic eyes.

Danon tightened his grip around his sword before looking at what lay below the stature.

Countless people knelt before the statue.

Their naked bodies covered head to toe in blue paint.

Danon’s breath became frantic as he walked towards the people in blue.

They each chanted ugly words as they knelt.

“Vara!” Danon yelled, alerting everyone in the chamber.

They all then stood and faced Danon with eyes that mirrored those of the stature.

Cold, uncaring and with a yellow tint.

A man then walked up to Danon, whose legs trembled.

“Danon, have you come to join us on this most wonderful day?” The man asked, his voice flat.

“Doctor, where is Vara?” Danon asked, but just as the words left his mouth, a woman approached.

Tears welled up in Danon’s eyes as he walked towards the woman.

“What are you doing here? Let’s go home.” Danon said, his voice a soft whimper.

“Ok. Just let me finish this ceremony-"

“No!” Danon yelled.

“No. Come with me now. You’re not supposed to be here.”

“And where am I supposed to be?” Vara asked, her voice flat.

“Home. Our home. With me.” Danon said as he offered Vara his trembling hand.

Vara looked at it apathetically.

“You fought hard, didn’t you,” Vara said.

“Yes, but now’s not the time for that-"

“But you ultimately failed,” Vara said as several people surrounded Danon.

“What?” He asked. He kept his eyes locked onto Vara’s.

“You failed at the one thing that Kalosýni wanted you to do and that’s to grow stronger. Instead, you crawled here in search of something that ultimately means nothing in your desperate need for comfort.” Vara said as the eyes of serval of the people surrounding Danon began glowing bright blue.

“What?” Danon asked before a fosblade cleanly cut off his leg.

Another then cut off his arm, before another cut off his other arm.

“Aaaaaaaaaahh!” Danon screamed as his body fell to the ground.

“The least you could have done was die in that hole,” Vara said with a look of pure disgust.

Danon tried reaching out to hold her, but alas, he had no hands.

His vision slowly faded and his body grew cold.

He then watched in terror as the giant golden statue shed its golden coat.

It then walked towards him.

Its eyes wide and with a twisted grin on its face.

The statue then placed its foot on top of Danon’s head before-
