《You're Mecha-ing Me Crazy!》Chapter 12: I.O.U.

Three of the Otomechs stayed behind while the other 150 Otomechs went to battle to keep the dragons at bay.
“Guess your instincts were a bit off this time huh Jack?”
I wasn’t sure if Jack left his voice comm on unintentionally or not, but I was able to closely listen in on their conversation.
One of the Otomechs descended down towards Jack. The Otomech was a medium sized frame. The only thing that stood out with this frame was its weapon which was a fan.
“Though this was all apart of my calculations anyways.”
“Tch, you can’t be serious Lian.”
“Oh, I am damn well serious Jack.”
“What’s happening Rama?”
Sheena and I were still in the vehicle at a safe area.
“I can’t tell, it sounds like they’re arguing or something. Whatever it is, it looks like Jack’s getting screwed.
“Well, what are you waiting for, get closer to them.”
“What? Why, we’d be in danger.”
“No we won’t, we’ll be with those players. They look really strong, so I doubt we’d be in trouble.”
“I mean I guess you’re right...wait why are you intent on going there?”
I saw Sheena kept staring at a certain Otomech.
“You can’t mean...”
She slightly blushed.
“Alright alright, as a reward, I guess we can go there.”
I started the vehicle and made my way towards them. When I finally reached the top of the cliff they were situated at I saw all four of them dismounted from their Otomechs, arguing with each other on the ground.
As we slowly pulled up, one of the players shouted.
“Is that...newbie?!”
“Uhhh...”
I was shocked at the sudden shout, but that red pony tail was something I remembered seeing. As I looked towards the other Otomechs I saw that one of them had a Bazooka.

“OH! It’s you!”
Jack and others were surprised. The girl walked towards me and Sheena.
“I see you...got an upgrade...”
I could see her voice trail off as she saw the vehicle.
“This...is Jack’s right?”
I nodded.
“Don’t you have a real mech?”
I shook my head.
I could see her face holding back the laughter.
“Yeah, he’s level 20 and still doesn’t have a mech, isn’t that really sad?”
Sheena slid in her comment.
“Hey Scarlett how do you know him?”
I heard Jack shout from the distance. Scarlett turned back towards Jack.
“I met him at [The Great Plains] early on. I’m surprised you gave him this to drive.”
“It was the least I could do, he was helping me after all.”
“Uhh.” I slowly chimed in. “What is this vehicle. I didn’t know this game had this to operate, I thought all you could operate was just mechs.”
Scarlett nodded.
“Same, I thought so too, but that was something we actually found on the [First Moon]. We didn’t know what it was so we all just called it a ‘I.O.U.’ or ‘Identity Otomech Unknown’. “
“Wait this is a considered an Otomech?” I questioned.
“It has to be, only Otomechs can be operated in this game.” Scarlett said hesitantly.
“Isn’t this something you should hold on to?” I continued questioning.
“Well to be honest, every one of the Six Gears had no use for it because our mechs are so much better than that, so we all agreed to just give it to Jack, the weakest person from the Six Gears.” Scarlett said it loud enough for Jack to hear.
“How dare you call the Crit King the weakest li-”

“Either way, to see it operate in an actual battlefield, how was it?”
Jack was fuming from being cut off.
“Uhh...underwhelming to say the least. The steering was pretty bad, wasn’t that fast and the turret did no damage to the dragons.”
“Mhmm, well feel free to have that.” Scarlett said.
“What! What gives you the authority to give away my stuff?” Jack yelled.
“Why are you mad, you don’t even need it.”
“Yeah but-”
“It’s settled just give it to him after this.”
“Fine.” Jack groaned.
“Are you four all in the same guild or something?” I added.
Scarlett laughed.
“No no no, only me, Lian, and Odin are. Jack’s in a different guild.”
“Lian and Odin?”
“Yep, those two that are situated over there with Jack. They’re also apart of the Six Gears.”
“Wait so the Six Gears aren’t all in the same guild?”
“Nope. We’re only called the Six Gears because our classes synergized well together, so we were able to clear the [First Moon] efficiently. In reality there are other monsters besides us.”
Lian and Odin motioned Scarlett to come over.
“Well looks like our chat here is over, got to get back to beating this. Take care newbie.”

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
