As he walked back to the restaurant, Tafari was intrigued and excited about reading the journal. He also felt grateful to senior Grace for her kindness and foresight by allowing him to take the journal.
crowds still flooded the streets as buyers haggled with sellers in getting the most reasonable prices. Due to this, it was a noisy scene everywhere.
Being that he felt he had accomplished everything he set out to do, he paid no heed to his surroundings.
Unknowingly to him some people were observing his movements and kept following him from a distance. They had smiles on their faces as they had finally found the thorn that has been a pain in their sides for a while now.
"Should we attack this runt now boss and cripple those legs he seems to be so fond of?"
A man with a ghastly scar that ran from his eyelids to his neck asked impatiently.
The boss a man of short but bulky stature looked on as the youth made his way on the street unaware that he was being stalked.
"No.. not now. Do you see the crowd? How would it look if we grown men were to attack a kid with so many to witness the act?" He replied while continued.
The scar-faced man was brought back as he surveyed his surrounding and nodded his head in agreement.
" Boss but surely we aren't going to let this runt walk free.., are we?"
" He has made our gang the laughing stock of the city and we have little face ever since. Our members are being ridiculed on a daily basis among the gangs and taunted as being the little Mouse's playthings."
"How can we even fathom a continued existence of us and that runt in the city? How can we recruit new members in the future?"

He bellowed out the disgust of him and his fellow members.
"Be patient, I never said we would do nothing scarface. We just won't do anything while in the crowd. How do you get rid of a mouse scarface?" He asked with an evil smile.
"You poison or trap it boss. " He replied while trying to figure out what his boss had planned.
"What about when this mouse has stolen your treasures? wouldn't it be a tragic loss if the mouse was killed with no means of your looted treasure being recovered?
That will not do, so we aim high and selected option C. This mouse must have a home or hiding place that he goes to after he stole from us. "
"This is no common street child scarface, haven't you noticed? He always seems well fed and clean. Doesn't that strike you as odd?"
While the boss spoke he saw the realization of the scenario dawn on his members.
"Your powers of observation needs improving Scarface. How can this minor detail escape your eyes?" The boss interjected once more as he berated them.
"We will lay siege on this little insignificant mouse and his benefactor when found. Now wouldn't that be an even more glorious of an event Scarface?"
He wickedly smiled as he spoke.
"Yes, boss I see indeed. " Scarface sheepishly agreed.
As he walked Taf had a strange and frightening feeling that he was being stalked by a hawk. He has always had this sense of danger ever since his time on the street and it has never let him down.
"What is it? or should I say who is it? Thoughts ran through his head as he tried to get a grasp of the situation. "
"Ok stay calm, stay calm and rationalize this as you have always done. Who have you offended?" He asked himself.

"Damn it, many... I have offended many!! He screamed at himself. I really need to reassess these dumb life choices. I swear if I survive this little ordeal I will be a renewed man " He righteously spoke.
"OK ok let me see who is following me."
He casually walked over to a store window that had clothes displayed through their glass.
As he acted as if observing and admiring the clothes and their extravagance he saw ten figures reflecting in the mirror.
Cold sweat soaked his back as some words finally came out of his mouth and he wryly smiled and said...
" Those bastards of the Bing Gang."

Tesla Stone and the World of Smoke and Mirrors
R0Q-T357-Alpha (callsign: Rock) is a "Core Child," an irredeemably-crippled test tube baby modified and repurposed by an advanced U.S. military project to serve as the CPU for two-thirds of America's orbital defense systems. Though no one outside of the Pentagon has ever heard of him, he protected his homeland from three ICBMs, a Pacific theatre invasion fleet, and one rogue asteroid. Now, after twenty-seven years of distinguished service from "birth," he is being honorably discharged into civilian life. The only problem is that "civilian life" isn't exactly livable for a glorified brain in a jar. How does a couple pounds of grey matter surrounded by five tons of life support systems and enough co-processing enhancements to take over the planet enjoy an early retirement when he's surrounded by overzealous politicians, corporate spies, and foreign agents after military secrets? The real world isn't that forgiving.
