Prologue

This isn’t my world, but this is my story.

It started out as a fantasy, but I’ve been here so long, it’ll probably turn into a Mecha sometime in the future. Right now, it’s a weird mixture of slice of life and action, except the life is being sliced apart in the action.

At the beginning, when the civilisation was still a seedling, the strongest inhabitants called the world Uhn. When their culture began to grow, so did their language, turning it into Ukhun. Then, when society became more complex, so did the language, and Ukhun turned into the now-fancy Khondhour.

If you think that’s cringy, try living there in real time. Humanity’s growth went from a toddler being a mess into a child causing a mess. Worse still, it’s going into a rebellious teen stage.

And who had to clean up this mess? If written text could sigh, it’d cause a fog of my breath to fill the land.

Not to mention, after every century, a new ‘hero’ was summoned and their recklessness invited unnecessary deaths and turmoil.

Makes me miss Earth - my home where nobody had magical abilities.

See, what would happen if you give a guy – guy, girl, whatever – super powers when they lived a life of normality? Would they rise to become a hero, a god for the people of the land? Or would they fall into depravity, abusing their strength?

Doesn’t matter, cause they'd all die young.

The few of us have a pool going for the current one. Mine’s at 10 years, and I’m sure as hell not losing to those morons.

Worthless, can’t pin my hopes on any of them. These heroes had one job.

Get strong, kill the monsters, breach the portal and erase the link. Bit harder than following a train, sure, but not impossible.

Okay. A lot harder… and maybe more than one job.

Anyway, this story started with a rumour. Two strong kiddos joined some school, so I’m going to check it out. If they turn out trash, I’m gonna hunt down the one who recommended them.

If they turn out good, they’re in for a world of hurt.

And for you, the one reading this, here’s a little disclaimer. If you’re like these students, thinking the world’s a fluffy, happy safe space for you to grow…

You’re gonna die young.

Right then, heading out. Let’s hope for the best, eh? For their sakes, I hope they’re better than the last few I trained...

… Or I’m gonna fucking kill them.
