《The fashion consultant | Sherlock Holmes x Reader|》|Chapter 1: Prolog|

It was raining. Pouring in fact. To the point that the bullet train was forced to stop on the tracks.

'Sorry for the delay, the storm is said to pass in the next ten minutes.' the conductor didn't sound too confident himself in that remark but it's not like anyone could do anything anyway. I let out a sigh turning another page in my book, ignoring the constant bickering of two overweight men complaining about the weather, something no one could do anything about. Service was lacking also. We were in the countryside on the way to London. Do to arrive just after lunch but I suppose not now.

"Can't you get this bloody train moving. I'm a very important man and..." He was complaining to one of the workers who seemed unable to answer him. I slammed my book shut making the man halt he glanced in my direction.

"I don't suppose you believe that this woman has anything to do with the weather now do you? And might I add, lying to a stranger to get what you want is nothing short of theft of deception." He was dumbfounded, both he and his friend had their mouths open. The worker blinked at me.

"I beg your pardon I did not lie." I scoffed rolling my eyes.

"With that outfit, I dought you get above the average salary and you're eating leftovers from the last week, not something I'd see someone with money to spare." Standing from my seat along with my things I turned to the worker. "Now may I have another seat, this carriage is too talkative." Again she blinked clearing her throat.

"Right this way."

......

The rain had followed the train to London. Not what I wanted for my first day back here in ten years. My dear sister came back in half that time. I've rung her number a few times and yet no answer. She's always on time but I wasn't here. So a cafe would do. Not having an umbrella I stepped out of the station into the ran. Not bothering to fix myself up knowing there was no point in trying I glanced around spotting a cafe across the road. Rolling my suitcase through the soaked street I let out a long sigh when seeing Jess in one of the windows chatting away with someone. A friend maybe. Or a stranger she met, Jess was one of the few people who can manage to meet someone and become best friends with them in merely a few hours.

"(Y/n) my God, you're soaking wet!" She shouted out when spotting me after the ring of the door opening.

"Yes, ran tends to do that. Is your car parked nearby?" I questioned and she nodded.

"Sorry, Peter. I'll text you." They hugged shortly before Jess came running over grinning.

"I'll lead the way." She said lifting up a small umbrella, no real point to it due to the rain hitting at a sharp angle although she made sure to keep her face and hair dry. I would care if I had something to stop it but nope. Jess let out a long sigh once making it to her car and leaning back in her seat. "I'm so happy to see you again." She chirped turning on the car to get the heater going.

"Same here. No more video calls." I smiled and Jess nodded putting on her seatbelt.

"Tell me again how you were sold out of your last job?" Always to the point Jess is, although she only tends to be that way with me because I love dodging the annoying questions.

"You know I'm a fashion consultant for Vogue in France right?" She nodded slowly.

"Yes although I've always wanted you to become a detective or something." She giggled and I rolled my eyes.

"Well, I overheard one of the top designers had an affair with a client and have proof. I was going to tell the wife but a whole bunch on stuff went down and now I'm here with a crap tone of money jobless." I did jazz hands to add to the effect. Jess giggled.

"Did the wife find out?" I hummed a yes and she gasped. "How, wouldn't there be something in the contract you signed to stop you?" I tapped my nose.

"There are always loopholes. Now, do you know where you're going?" I said looking out the window seeing the storm start to calm down. The conductor was about an hour off his ten-minute remark.

"Of course I do!? Don't you remember you made me use one of my days off to take all you're stuff to your apartment?" Jess was offended.

"How is working as a therapist going for you?" I dodged it and she knows it. Jess growled a little smiling and I hummed a happy little tune to myself.

"Wonderful. I get to fix people's problems and get three days off. What's not to love?"

"Some things never change. Optimist." My smile made Jess punch my shoulder. "Mind the road. I lost my job I don't want to lose my life!" Jess laughed and my eyes rolled turning back to the streets.

"Can you tell me why you chose this place. You could live someplace fancy you know like your old place." I groaned taking off my coat that was making me cold.

"Fancy places mean boring people. They all tend to be either old or happily married with kids. If I live here I might enjoy myself a little more. Besides I liked the landlady." We were getting closer, two more blocks down.

"Here take my coat. I'll get yours dry cleaned. One of my clients owns a place." I started putting on her longer coat smelling the slight scent of dog. She should get this one dry cleaned. She parked the car out front. "I can't stay I have a client coming to the office in half an hour. Let me know when we can meet up." She hugged me and I pat her back.

"It was good to see you. Pop the boot will you." The rain was gone, good timing I grabbed my suitcase stepping onto the wet pavement towards 221b of Baker Street.
