Today getting up for school wasn't an option, the beating that I got yesterday when I came back was horrible.

I have a black eye and a broken arm.

My dad took me to the hospital and lied to the doctors about how my arm got broken, and explained to them how I was bullied at school and that's how I got my black eye.

My dad didn't want me to go to school today because he didn't want anyone to be suspicious of my injuries.

My mate didn't show up for science class today which made me kinda sad.

I mean I did just meet her yesterday.

It was lunch time and I did not see her anywhere, she probably didn't come to school.

But why? Was she sick? I hope she's alright!

"Where's Sophie?" Asked Sammy.

"I'm pretty sure she didn't come to school today."

"Why?" He asked nervously.

I furrowed my brows and stared at him, what's wrong with him?

"Maybe you should go check on her?" Suggested Sammy, and his eyes lit up.

"Yeah that's it, I'll give you the address and you can go check up on her."

I thought about for a sec and agreed, I needed to make sure my mate was alright.

When gym class came, the girl's coach looked really nervous for Sophie's absence.

What's going on? First Sammy and now her?

I followed the directions that Sammy gave me to find a small house with a silver car parked on there driveway.

I took a deep breath and rung the doorbell.

I waited for a couple of seconds until a tall man who resembled Sophie opened it.

"Hello Mr. Owens!" I greeted.

He looked at me suspiciously.

"Hello..." He trailed off not knowing my name. "Jack." I said.

"Jack." He repeated.

And I nodded awkwardly.

"Not to be rude or anything, Jack, but what are you doing here?"

"Oh it's alright, I'm..." I trailed off, what do I say?

"I'm a friend of Sophie's from school, she didn't come today so I was just making sure she's alright!" I smiled nicely.

He looked surprised, I saw anger flicked in his eyes but it disappeared quickly.

"Friend?" He asked shocked.

"Yup."

He stayed silent for a bit then sighed.

"I would let you come in but Sophie broke her arm last night and she's pretty tired. She's actually sleeping right now but I'll let her know you came by."

I frowned, my mate is hurt and I wasn't there to help her.

"Oh okay, well I hope she feels better and don't forget to let her know I dropped by."

"Oh don't worry, I won't." He said and slammed the door.
