《His Unwanted Bride (BWWM) √》Chapter 6

"Damn" I muttered to myself when I lost in the color switch game I was playing. Annoying addictive game. I had been playing the game for over two months and my high score was still just 34. I sighed and started all over again while I listened to the news channel dad was watching with one ear.
I had been with him for the past 2 days so he wouldn't be alone...and so I wouldn't have to see Keith. Yes, I was officially avoiding him.
"Maya?" I heard my dad call me. He was the only one that called me that.
"Sir?" I replied, not taking my eyes off my game. I was determined to get break my record.
"You need to go home." And just like that, the pink ball hit the purple bar and I lost again. My heart dropped a bit as I chuckled a little.
"I..I like it here." I murmured.
"Sure, you like it here but you said you will work it out with your husband. You've been here for two days already. I know you'll say he doesn't care but you still need to go back and if things aren't working out, we will find a way around getting that divorce."
Shaking my head furiously, I said no. I was adamant about it. I wasn't going to get a divorce just because my husband didn't want me when I knew my dad stood the chance of losing everything he ever worked for. I didn't care that I was basically sacrificing my whole life and future just to prevent him from losing the company. Sighing, I went upstairs to my old room and got my bag and then soon, I kissed his cheek. I said my good byes and all and I drove back to Keith's house.
When I turned the engine off, I just let my head drop on the steering wheel over and over and over again. Finally, I sucked it up and walked in while rubbing my bruised forehead.
He was not at home. The kind of relief that coursed through my veins was unreal. I went to my room and dumped my bag before grabbing my laptop and headphones and going downstairs. I didn't feel like being cooped up in my room and I didn't really care about the world at that moment. So I just grabbed the bucket of ice cream and the huge slice of chocolate cake and went to my best corner in the kitchen.
What to watch? What to watch? It's time to go on a movie marathon Maya. What shall it be?
I decided to rewatch the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
And that was where I was when dear old husband walked into the house. It had been embarrassing. I was literally shovelling a large spoonful of icecream down my throat when he walked it. I swallowed it so fast I almost choked on it and looked away immediately. I didn't want to see it. The disgust or judgment in his eyes, but then I remembered he didn't have issues with saying mean things. So I braced myself for the hurtful words that he would throw at me.

"Hello." He said and my jaw dropped to the ground.
"Huh?" I said stupidly and he repeated the same word before leaving the kitchen and I heard his light footsteps as he climbed the stairs.
What? Hello? He has never ever said hello to me before. Could he be up to something? May be because I hadn't started preparing dinner when he came back.
I quickly paused the movie and made a really fast dinner for him before dishing it out. Opening the fridge to get the fruits for the smoothie my oh so loving husband demanded for as an a part of his dinner every Wednesday, I froze when I realised that the strawberries and kiwis were finished.
Just then, I heard his footsteps once again as he walked downstairs.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. I'm fucked. Oh God help me. What am I going to do?
Those were my thoughts as I imagined all the derogatory words he was going to use when he found out that once again, I felt tears well up in my eyes.
He walked in looking like the eye candy he always looked like without even trying. His wet hair indicated that he just showered before coming downstairs.
When he looked at the table and didn't see the glass that should be beside his plates, he picked up his fork as he sat down.
"What of..." He began and I cut him off before he could complete the statement.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I didn't know the fruits were finished. I just found out now. I'm really sorry I didn't mean to not prepare it. I'll run to the store now and get them."
"No. It's okay. Don't worry" he said as he started eating and reached into his pocket for his phone. Once again, for the second time within the space of an hour, my jaw hit the floor again. What was going on? First he said hello. Then he wasn't rude. Then he didn't insist on his smoothie and then he didn't make any scatheful comment.
I numbly went back to my seat and played my movie even though I watched him through the corner of my left eye. I remembered what I wanted to speak to him about and I wondered if I should do it while he ate or after.
Taking a deep breath, I asked him "Are you..Are you okay?"
Giving me a strange look, he nodded. I asked my next question, hoping against all hope that he would agree.
"I..I want to...Can I adopt a pet? I'm always alone here, so I would really want to get either a cat or a dog. I also want to get a dog for my dad but it will be here for a while of you don't mind."

"Sure. Why not? It's your house as much as it's mine. You don't need to ask for my permission."
I almost died right there and then. The Keith I knew never agreed with anything I wanted or anything that made me happy. But there he sat while eating his dinner, telling me the house was as much mine as it was his.
"I...I just...Just in case you are allergic to anything."
"No. I'm not allergic to anything except the food ingredients you already know and dust and shit like that."
I numbly nodded. He was being strange. Very strange. Too strange. What was he up to? Just then, he sat up and took his plate to the sink and put it in the dishwasher. I just gave up and prepared for the worst. Keith was definitely up to something, and I was really scared of finding out what he was up to. Nobody went from being beastly mean to nice all of a sudden within the space of two days.
I could feel her eyes on me as she observed my actions. She had really expressive eyes, so I bet she didn't know the suspension she felt was right there in her eyes. I had decided that to get on her good side, I had to start from doing little things. From good morning, hello, stuff like that. I had done those and more.
Five days later, she still watched me with both suspicion and caution in her eyes. I didn't blame her. For 3 years I had been nothing but nasty to her, and all of a sudden, I was saying good morning and cleaning up after myself as much as I could.
Clicking save on my laptop to save the document I had been going through, my eyes went to the open box that had 5 kittens in it. Who the fuck adopts 5 baby cats all at once? My wife, that's who.
My wife. That was such a foreign thought.
She had said something about not wanting to separate them since they seemed to close and their mum was dead.
The truth is, I HATE cats. But I didn't tell her that because I wanted her to have it if that was what she wanted.
I groaned when I heard the doorbell. I just knew it had to be my friends. I wasn't in the mood to be around people. I sighed and walked towards the door.
"What's up?" Leo said as he walked into the house like he was the owner of the damn place while Sammy, another friend of mine paused for a handshake before walking in as well.
30 minutes later, while Leo and Samuel argued on who was going to win the basketball game we were watching, I felt it. It was a light almost nonexistent brush before it came again, stronger than before. I looked down and saw one of the kittens brushing against my leg. I fucking jumped. Literally.
"What the hell Keith? Don't be jumping around and scaring the shit out of someone for no...Is that a cat? Dude you hate cats."
That was when Maya walked in.
Seeing the kitten that decided to stray outside the box she left them in, she rushed in and bent to pick the poor thing up. I was glad I hadn't accidentally kicked it.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'll take him in immediately. He won't bother you again."
Turning back to my friends as she disappeared into the kitchen, I frowned when I looked at Samuel. Before I could say something, Leo said "You let her get a cat."
"She ended up getting 5. She really wanted them and ...yeah." I finished awkwardly. Leo gave me a knowing look as his eyes twinkled. I didn't let him say what he wanted to say. I turned to Samuel immediately.
"If I see you eyefuck my wife next time, I will gorge your eyes out and fucking feed them to you." I growled.
"It's not my fault she's a hot piece."
"I won't say it again Samuel. Keep your fucking eyes to yourself. She won't be one of the BBW you will end up fucking."
Something in my eyes must have given him an idea of how pissed I was and so he kept quiet as he nodded. He mumbled a sorry.
Just then, I heard a dog bark. I turned only to see a big brown dog run past me as it followed Maya's scent. A dog? A fucking dog? I wasn't fond of dogs.
I saw the look in Leo's eyes and the grin on his face. I knew what he wanted to say and before he could, I said "Fuck you Leo." And then he started laughing.
