"It's not a question of hiding, it's more a question of survival."

"Mani? Why are you here?" Tyler now runs into view. He sees the events unfolding before him as his father now turns to the omega by the tree.

"He is wolfkind Tyler. Stay back." his father insists, but Tyler shakes his head.

"No, he's just my roommate. Tell him Mani." Tyler insists. He looks at Mani, but Mani is unable to speak. The moon is now full, a big bright white orb in the sky.

Mani crashes to his hands and knees as his muscles and bones begin to shift and morph within him. The sweats he was wearing constrain and rip against his changing form and soon drop in shreds to the ground. Thick black hair begins to cover his body as his eyes turn to a deep amber.

"AWOOO!!" comes the cry. It fills the silence, only momentarily, before the howl of another joins in.

"AWOOO!" Then the white wolf is returning. Like a bolt from the blue, the beast heads for the vampire, giant paws instantly pinning him to the floor. The white wolf bears his teeth at the bloodkind below him, with the vampire doing the same. Mani's black wolf is growling and barking savagely at the sidelines and Tyler feels powerless to help.

BANG... BANG!

The sudden noise of gunfire fills the air and instantly causes the wolves to take notice. The white wolf retracts and hurriedly runs into the path of the moonlight, followed close behind by the black wolf.

"Dad, are you ok?" Tyler now approaches his father who is getting up from the mud trodden ground. Tyler holds out a hand to help, but it is pushed away.

"Get off me!" He complains as they both get to standing. 'Where were you huh? Where were you?" His father complains. "You are no good to me like this. I blame you!" Tyler's father now pushes past his son and heads towards the two males approaching. One of them holding a gun.

"Calm down Mr Klein." The hands of one of the males is raised in order to defuse the situation. "Your son is still bloodkind, it's just a little shift in his dna, that's all."

"You have no right to give him such pills. If his senses weren't dulled, he would have recognised that savage wolf from the beginning. He wouldn't have been victim."

"Dad, you're blowing this out of proportion. I told you he apologised. He mistook me for someone else." Tyler looks at the space where Mani had been standing, reminding himself of this latest revelation. "My roommate is his mate."

"And you didn't see that either?" Do you realise the danger you put yourself in?" his dad continues. Either one of them could have attacked you.''

"But you attacked them." One of the other men concludes. "Mr Klein. I fear you may have started a war."

"And you are a professor of what exactly?" Tyler's dad questions with irritation.

'I am professor Rowan Kelly. I am a Being. Not quite vampire, not quite human. This is my partner James. James Smith."

"Everyone else calls me Jamie." The man says with a half smile as he places the gun in the back pocket of his jeans.

"I don't understand?" Tyler's father continues. "Why do you continue to hide yourselves?"

"It's not a question of hiding. It's more of a question of survival." The professor steps forwards. "We cannot coexist alongside the diversity we find ourselves in if we do not adjust. I will not kill innocent people for my own survival. I…" the professor looks at his partner. "We choose to integrate."

"And so do I Dad." Tyler adds. He dares to take a step closer to his father once again. "Mani and I get along. The pills make it happen. If I hadn't had taken them, I would have been prejudice because of my instincts. Look at what just happened when both sides met. Chaos and now possibly war."

"I was defending you son. I was defending the bloodkind!"

"And the wolfkind will say the same." Professor Kelly adds. He looks into the distance in the direction of where the wolves had run. "I suspected my student, but I wasn't sure until now. He may help us keep the peace," he concludes.

"How?" Jamie adds. "You saw just then what side he was on."

"He fears his mate. He told me, well… not in so many words, but he doesn't know the power he has over the alpha."

"So you think that hot headed wolf will listen to his omega?" Mr Klein says with an air of scepticism.

"We can do all sorts of unthinkable things for love." Rowan smiles, looking at Jamie. "But that's another tale for another day."

"I will talk to Mani too." Tyler says but is interrupted once again by his father.

"You will not! You are not sharing rooms with a wolf!" He shouts. "This will not end well. The wolfkind and bloodkind have never solved anything with words. We must go to war to fight our territory."

"But this is human territory Dad. Not vampire nor wolf and we don't live in the dark ages anymore." Tyler pleads with his father. "Please…just let me talk to Mani. Let me try."

"We will watch over him too." Rowan and Jamie insist.

The vampire looks at the three males before him, letting out a sigh. "Does it look like I have a choice? But I'm warning you. If you get hurt, I will kill them all. It will be a war."
