《Cry For Me》Chapter 27

This week is going better. My mom is talking and went back to work. She still cries at night, but no longer in front of me.
Colton's been great, even at school he continues to act like a boyfriend. Judith has stopped hanging out with us because she says our relationship sickens her, but oh well. I've been trying to help Colton get his grades up, but he gets frustrated easily.
"You know this one Colton," I encourage him. He stares blankly at his textbook before letting out a frustrated groan.
"Jesus Camryn can't you see that I just don't get it!" he snaps, tossing his book onto my bedroom floor.
"You're just not trying," I say calmly. "We have to get this done before you go to work," I tell him. He's been working at the restaurant Bobby's for a little over a week and he seems to like it. He hates the people, but likes the paycheck, so he deals with it.
"I'll do it when I get back, I can't deal with this right now," he says running his fingers through his hair. He stands up from my desk and goes into one of my drawers to get his work clothes.
"Okay fine," I sigh, giving up.
"I'm sorry, I promise I'll try later," he says, "what are you going to do while I'm gone?"
"It's a Friday night, I'm gonna party," I joke and he laughs. "I actually need to go see my dad, I need to know when I'm getting my new car."
"Does your mom know you're going?" he asks.
"No, but she will when I ask to borrow her car," I sigh. I don't want to upset my mom, I know she doesn't want me to see him, but she would never admit it. He's still my dad.
"I was actually thinking about asking him about my real parents to," I say.
"No!" Colton says quickly. I give him a weird look. "I mean, are you sure you want to talk to him about that?"

"Well yeah, I have no idea where to start looking for my real parents, I need to ask."
"Look, why don't I save you the trip, and go talk to him for you?" he suggests. What's wrong with him? Why is he acting so weird? "You should probably stay with your mom anyway."
Instead of fighting with him, or questioning him, I decide to agree. I'm not sure I'm ready to see my dad yet, I just needed to know when I'm getting my car.
"Okay fine," I nod, "thank you."
"Of course, I should leave now so I can see him before work, I love you," he says, kissing me briefly on the lips before exiting my room. He's acting funny and I don't know why, but I'll find out sooner or later.
Colton's POV
Okay, that was close. I can't have Camryn speaking to her dad about her real parents because there's something going on. The day Camryn was born and the day she was adopted are about three months apart and I need to find out what that means before he does.
I have a little over an hour before I have to be at work, so that gives me time to go see David.
I follow the directions Cam sent me and am at her grandparents house in ten minutes.
Their house is nice. It's a one story, but it's huge. I follow the walkway, which is surrounded by flowers, up to the door. I knock on the huge door, and after about 30 seconds someone answers. It's a small old lady that can only be Camryn's grandmother.
"We're not interested in what you're selling," she says quickly, about to shut the door in my face. I quickly put my hand out to stop her.
"Mrs. Sutter?" I ask, and she gives me a scared look. Holy shit I'm not trying to scare the old woman. "Hi, my names Colton, I'm Camryn's boyfriend." I extend my hand for her to shake.

Her scared look turns into a huge grin. "My Camryn has a boyfriend!" she cheers, pulling me in for a hug. She's about two feet shorter than me and looks so fragile, but I hug her back. "You're a handsome little thing," she smiles. "Is she here with you?" she asks.
"No, actually I'm here to speak to David for her," I explain. Her face falls and she nods.
"She still doesn't want to see him?" she asks quietly. I press my lips into a hard line and just shake my head. "Okay, c'mon in, he's in our office."
I follow her into the house and she leads me out of the huge living room into a hallway. "It's the last room to the right, I'll go fix you guys up a snack," she smiles and I thank her.
Walking down the hallway, I see pictures of Cam as I child up on the wall. I quickly pull out my phone and snap a few shots of her elementary school pictures. In one of them she's missing a tooth, and it's my favorite.
I continue down the hallway and knock once I reach the door. "Come in," David calls. I enter the room and he's facing the opposite direction, sitting at a desk. "Mom, it's your house, you don't have to knock." I fake a cough to get him to turn around and when he does, he's understandably surprised to see me. "Colton, what are you doing here?"
"I need to talk to you about something," I say, making my way to the chair in front of the desk to sit down.
"Is it Camryn? Is she okay?" he asks worriedly.
"Yeah everything's fine," I assure him, "but she was wondering when she's getting her car."
"Oh," he sighs in relief. "I was actually going to call her about that, but she uh, doesn't want to talk to me," he frowns. "Tell her we can go get her car on Sunday," he says. "Is that all?"
"No actually," I say. He raises his brow and I take a deep breath. "Camryn wants to meet her birth parents," I spill out quickly. David's face falls.
"Why?" he asks quietly. I really don't feel like it's my place to explain why.
"It's a long story with Cam, but she feels that you owe her this information." Okay, it's time to tell him what I know. "I found her documents in your home office," I admit. David's eyes go wide with horror.
"How'd you find them? Camryn didn't see them did she?" he asks quickly.
"That doesn't matter, and no she didn't see them, and judging from your reaction, I'm right about you guys hiding something," I say. "Now I'm going to need you to tell me what that is exactly."
"It's very complicated I can't just..."
"She'll find out sooner or later, so why not just tell me?" I cut him off.
"It'll crush her," he whispers. After a few moments of silence, he speaks again. "We adopted Camryn at three months, not three days like we told her. We were told that her birth parents were addicts and that she was taken away from them, we never met them ourselves."
Shit. Camryn said finding out her parents loved drugs more than her is worse than not finding anything out at all.
"You can't let her go searching for them, they're probably dead," he says. Maybe them being dead isn't such a bad thing. Cam would have closure and we won't have to tell her the truth.
"I'm not sure I can keep her from looking, she's pretty determined."
"Then promise me you'll take care of her when she finds out the truth," he says.
"I promise." Of course I do.
