《The Girl Who Never Smiles | ✔️》Chapter 1

Today is the first day of my senior year of high school and I'm dreading each and every second that brings me closer to 8:15 am. What's the point of going to school when you have to sit in a classroom with a bunch of egotistical, ignorant popular wannabes?

I look at myself in my floor length mirror. This should be good for my last first day of high school. I am wearing a sleeveless cyan colored top with a white lace embroidery design at the top with a cyan colored collar at the neck of the shirt. I matched it with my white jeans and my cyan and white colored converses.

My hair is naturally curly and because of the occasion, I decide to make my hair look decent. I left it out curly so it flows down my back, but I braided the top so that all the hair is pushed back. My bedroom door busting open and slamming against the wall startles me and I spin around to see Zoe.

"What the hell Zoe?!?!"

"Does this look nice? I straightened my hair and all and I didn't put on too much makeup and I don't know. I just really want to look good for the last first day of school" She says frantically.

My face falls and I give her my signature 'are you serious?' look.

"No, you want to look good for one Asher Stevens Zo" I say matter of factly and I spin back around and clean back up the table and put on my book bag so I can leave.

"Pssh what are you talking about? I-I don't li-like Asher Stevens. Wha- that's absurd." She says trying to convince me that she doesn't like Asher. Zoe has had a crush on Asher Stevens since the 10th grade. So about two years. She has tried convincing me that she doesn't like him or she stopped liking him, but even my little brother Leo knows she is lying and he doesn't even know who Asher is.

"Whatever Zoe. Let's go or else we will miss the bus." I say and walk past her and downstairs. My brother Leo is sat at the table eating his microwave pancakes while he watches PJ Masks on his tablet. My mom is sat by the table watching some video on her phone while she eats a muffin.

I walk over to Leo and I ruffle his hair and kiss him on his forehead earning me a slap on my forehead. Zoe skips downstairs and goes in the fridge to take out a cold granola bar.

"Ready?" She asks.

"Who is ever ready to deal with annoying teenagers?" I say and Zoe walks out the door first, but I stay back and look at my mom.

"I love you mom" I say waiting, hoping that she will say it back.

"Hmm" she says and nods and continues watching her video.

Who am I kidding? The response was inevitable. She hasn't said those words to me in years.

I walk out the door and catch up to Zoe who is at the bus stop.

"You know I don't like Asher. He doesn't even know who I am. You know that. I just want to look good today." She lies and the bus pulls up. She goes on first and I second.

"Whatever you say Zo."

"I'm telling you the truth" she says and smiles.

"Sure.."

"It's just that.." Zoe says and continues to go on and on about trying to convince me that she doesn't have a crush on Asher Stevens, the school's ladies man.

We reach to school ten long minutes later and I walk out first and my feet hit the hard cement road. I walk toward the school building and I stop before I enter. I can see from the glass doors that people are already inside. It looks like hundreds of kids are inside there. I can already spot out the gossip girls of the school: Talia, Mariana, and Zara; The football, lacrosse, and basketball players who are all sizing up to each other with their egos, the nerds who throw themselves into their schoolwork, the popular wannabes, the goths, the outcasts, and finally the "it" crowd.

The "it" crowd is the crowd everyone, except me, wants to be in. The crowd that rules over this school. When they walk through the hallways, people part for them like the Red Sea. It's the crowd that people either want to be in or just envy for their high class confidence and status in not only the school, but in the town.

The "it" crowd consists of the head girls, Victoria, who is the queen bee, her best friend, Cartier, and their "friend" who they drag along to do most of their dirty work, Sienna. The head boys are Issac Evans, the most popular boy in school and also the golden boy of Eastside High, Zoe's crush, Asher Stevens, the ladies man of the school who practically flirts with everyone making them feel special like they finally got noticed by him, and lastly, Armani, the guy who throws the best parties at Eastside High.

Zoe stands next to me and snaps her finger in my face and I growl at her making her wince. I open the school door and walk inside.

The objective is to get to locker 235.

"So what class do you have first?"

"Uhh math I think"

"Lucky! I have economics"

"Did you just say lucky..? About Math! I knew you were crazy. How are you my twin?"

"Oh whatever. Math is fun."

"Who puts math and fun in the same sentence!" I shriek baffled at the words coming out this girl's mouth. Zoe and I are fraternal twins. I came out first by like 5 minutes. But we are barely alike.

"I do obviously" she says in a bored tone. I close my eyes and shake my head feeling an oncoming headache just talking so much about math.

Before I know it, I have walked into a hard wall and with the sudden throbbing pain in my head and the humiliation, a tear threatens to fall from my eyes. I look up to see not a wall, but a full blown person. The first thing that catches my eyes is the person's grey eyes and then I realize exactly who I bumped into.

Me and my clumsy self bumped into Issac Evans, the golden boy of the school. Issac has very dark brown hair. It looks almost black. He is 6'3 so he is taller than me by practically a whole foot. His skin isn't tanned, but despite that, his light skin tone compliments his dark hair and grey eyes. He has the looks of a cliche bad boy, but his personality is everything but a reckless bad boy.

I hold onto my head feeling it pound rapidly.

Is he made out of rock or something!

"Watch where you are going! God are you made out of rocks! I know I'm kind of short, but Jesus, I'm not invisible you blind bat!" I rant at the tall boy in front of me. He looks at me with an amused expression and he crosses his arms over his chest making his muscles bulge more. I finally actually look at him after I finished my angry rant at him. He is wearing a grey shirt and black jeans with gray converses.

"Why the heck are you smiling at me?"

"Cuz this is kind of funny. I never knew I was made of rocks." He says with a grin on his face.

God, he is such an as-

"I'm sorry that I wasn't watching where I was going and I bumped into you. It was my fault." He says and gives me his signature heart stopping smile that makes girls fall to their knees because there knees start wobbling like standing sticks.

I'm not feeling any knee wobbling.

"Hmmm" I rub my head feeling for any bumps. None.

I finally realize that behind Issac is Armani and Asher.

"Oh come on lighten up. Ok. Let's start off with introductions. I'm Issac Evans, and you are?" He says and gives me a charming smile and sticks his hands out for a handshake.

I cross my arms against my chest. "I know who you are." Behind him, Asher flashes me a smirk and winks at me with his green eyes. Asher is very handsome and it's understandable why so many girls fall for him. But the thing is more girls fall for Issac. Anyway, Asher has dark brown hair. He has the looks of the stereotypical bad boy and he is one. Dark brown hair, beautiful eyes and a killer smile that causes girls to drop their pants faster than you can say 'Hoe'.

Issac awkwardly puts his hand back to his side. Armani taps Issac's shoulder and whispers something in his ear and then Armani and Asher walk away. And of course the man-whore himself had to flash me a smile before he walked away with Armani.

"Well duty calls. I have a feeling I will be seeing you around more often" Issac says and smiles.

Why are you smiling?

It's so annoying. It's like it's itching at my skin.

"Don't count on it" A slight grimace forms on my face thinking about being...friendly and talking with Issac Evans on a daily basis.

"Smile! Pretty girls shouldn't frown all the time. Try showing some teeth." Issac says and winks. My eyebrow shoots up and Issac's smile grows even more and then he walks away.

I finally realize that Zoe has been here the entire time. I turn to her, readying my ears for the girlish shrieking and squealing. She already has a smile on her face. She surprisingly says nothing and just walks though her smiles stays etched on her face. My skin prickles and I instantly know someone is watching me. I acknowledge the people in the hallway and few, well most are staring at me.

So I have a conversation with some boy and you guys forget your manners and start staring me down?

Oh, I totally forgot.

I didn't have a conversation with some boy. I had a conversation that lasted for 3 minutes with Issac Evans, the most popular boy in school.

And that will for sure be the first and last conversation I will have with the golden boy.

That's a promise.
