《My Unwanted Child》Chapter 6

Mia POV:
Come on Ethan. We're going to be late! "Mooommm" He whined "do I really have to wear this?" I looked at the adorable outfit. He had a button up shirt with khakis and dock martins and a fedora hat on top. "Baby, you look so handsome." He whined some more. "Uhhh, mooommm." I just chuckled. "Look, I'll bring a change of clothes for when we are done with lunch. Okay?" He pouted but nodded his head.
We hopped into my Tesla model s. It's a great car. I have a GMC Denali as well but I rarely use it unless we are leaving the city. Nathan's parents house isn't too far, about a 45min drive. We got to the gate and I paged in, "Ms. Mia Constantine, Mr. and Mrs. Williams are expecting me." The gate opened and I drove in parking my car by the front door. I'm mentally telling myself to take deep breaths. I don't know why I ever agreed to this, especially since Mrs. Williams is not a nice woman. At least Nathan's father is kind. He adores Ethan and it shows.
We got out of the car and before we could even knock Gary, Nathan's dad answered. "Hey Mia, and hello Ethan." I smiled. "Hello Mr. Gary!" My Son chirped. "Come on, Ethan I have a surprise to show you." Gary said enthusiastically. "Yay! I love surprises!" With that they both headed for the stairs and left me standing in the hallway. "Great." I murmured to myself. Then I heard the click clack of heels. "Hello, Mia." Lois said. "Hello, Mrs. Williams." She sighed. "You can call me Lois, Mia." That's a first.
She signaled me to follow her into the parlor, yes I said parlor. That's what she calls it. I call it an extra living room that is unnecessary, but that's just me. We sat down across from each other. "So I heard you were at my event Friday night?" Wait what? "Umm, I didn't know it was your event. My boss Mr. Knight was unavailable last minute so as the VP of the company he asked me to take his place." She raised her eyebrow. "You're VP at Knight Enterprise?" I gave her a duh look, "Yes, I've been VP for the past two years now."
"And how do you handle that job, while raising a child on your own? Huh?" Now I was getting offended, "I handle it just fine actually! I have a gre...." but before I could finish I heard the front door slam and someone yelling. "What the hell?" Lois glared. "Language!" I rolled my eyes. "Mom!!!!dad!!!!!" Oh no, oh no. Lois jumped up and headed towards the hallway. "What are you doing here Nathan?"
I peeked through the hallway to see what was going on, Nathan is not suppose to be here. I wanted to run upstairs but Nathan would catch me. I noticed Nathan had a picture in his hand, "tell me mom! Who is this? Do you even know!" Lois looked at the picture and sighed. "Gary, get down here!" Oh no, please don't bring Ethan with you. But nope I'm not that lucky. Gary strolls down with Ethan in his arms. "What is going on....." Then he looked at Nathan with shock. "What are you doing here son?"

Nathan stared at our son in Gary's arms. He looked mad but then you saw a different expression in his face. Pain, sadness, confusion maybe all three. "I was about to ask you who this was." He said holding up the picture of Ethan, "but apparently you already know!" Ethan was staring at Nathan with curiosity. I can't just stand here.
I walked in and grabbed Ethan out of Gary's arms. "I think we should go." Gary was about to argue but stopped when he saw the anger in Nathan's face. "Very well, but could we reschedule, please?" He whispered to me and I just nodded. "Mommy, I don't want to go! Gary got me a train set and we were putting it together." He said with a pout. "I know baby, maybe another day okay?" He pouted again but after my stern look he finally nodded.
I was holding Ethan and grabbed my bag. I headed for the door when Nathan grabbed my arm. "We need to talk Mia." He seethed out. I pulled my arm away and just nodded. I won't argue with him in front of my child. Yes, my child! Nathan gave up all rights to Ethan before he was even born.
Nathan POV:
I watched Mia leave my parents house with my son, what the fuck is going on! I glared at my mom and dad. My mom was already crying. My dad has an unreadable expression. He walked over and patted my shoulder which I instantly pushed away. "We need to talk Son." My mom started crying even harder. For the first time in my life, I didn't even care that my mom was crying. My dad headed for his office and I followed. I heard my mom behind me. My dad stopped her "Lois, I think it would be better if Nathan and I talked alone." She cried harder. "This is all your fault Gary! You gave in to that girl! This would have never happened if you forced her to agree to our original plan!" My dad looked livid. "That's enough Lois! You didn't want her to be part of this family! You didn't think she was good enough! Remember! Look where she is now! She's successful and she did it with no help while raising our grandchild! Imagine where she could have been with our help!" With that he slammed the door.
"Sit down Son!" I wanted to argue, but I haven't seen my dad upset like this ever. He's always so calm and collected. I did as I was told and sat down. He walked over to the drink cart and poured two drinks then he walked back and passed one to me. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions Son." Seriously? Hell yeah I do. I needed to calm down though before I exploded again.
"You told me she gave the child up for adoption! That's why I signed over rights !" I sneered. And he just nodded "I did, it was part of the agreement." Agreement? "What? What agreement?" He sighed then he went to his filling cabinet and pulled out a contract. I was confused but started reading through it. It took me a good 30 minutes and then I slammed it on his desk. "Is this a fucking joke!" I screamed. My dad just sat there like he didn't even hear me. "No son, you wanted out. Remember? What did you do again when she told you she was pregnant?"

I thought back to that day. I was such a jerk. I screwed up big time. It's my biggest regret. Not only did I loose the love of my life I walked away from my child too. "I made a stupid mistake. But that didn't give you a right to lie to me and to keep my child away from me. How long have you been in my sons life?" He looked away and took his time to answer. "Dad!" I said sternly. "Since he was born, you read the contract." I did, but I just couldn't believe my parents went behind my back like this. I felt betrayed.
"Who's idea was this? Was this Mia's idea? Are you paying her off as well?" I screamed. Then my dad slammed his fists onto his desk. "Enough. No! It wasn't her idea. Your mother and I tried to get your child and raise it as our own, but that girl is strong willed and stubborn. We offered her 5 million dollars plus a penthouse and an allowance and she refused. She wanted nothing to do with us or our money. We went back and forth until she finally agreed to at least let us see our grandchild twice a year and give us updates. She still wouldn't take a penny from us and she even signed the nondisclosure contract so your name and ours wouldn't be dragged through the mud! She is successful and an amazing mother and she is doing that completely on her own with no help from you or us! Don't you dare talk badly about her. You're the punk that walked away from your responsibilities and I was stupid enough to let you!"
I sat back stunned. I'm so mad but at the same time he's right. I walked away. Fine, my parents let me but I was a grown adult, I knew better. She had the chance to walk away from our son and she didn't. She had the chance to make money off of the situation and she didn't. She didn't even accept any help. My dad is right. I'm an idiot. But I need to fix this. I sat there with my head hanging down in my hands.
"I'm a screw up. I messed everything up, but I need to make this right. It's not too late. I can still be the father I should have been from the beginning." My dad looked at me with sadness in his eyes. "Nathan, I think it's too late. You signed over your rights. And not only that, our contract is binding, if either one of us brake the contract it's null and void. Your little escapade earlier can make your mother and I loose contact with Ethan as well. Please don't make this worse." That name. "Ethan?" My dad nodded. "That's your sons name."
"Can you at least tell me about my son?" My dad looked away but smiled, "He's amazing, he's so smart and his mind astonishes me. Plus he's such a happy kid. He's always laughing and smiling. He's been like that since he was a baby." I felt so proud but sad at the same time. "Do you really think they are better off without me?" My dad gave me a thoughtful look. "Honestly, I can't answer that. All I can say is Mia is doing an amazing job so far."
I decided to ask the burning question that has been bothering me. "Dad, why didn't you push me to step up and be a father. Why did you give me an easy out?" He turned and looked me in my eye. "Honestly son, it's my biggest regret. Before we signed the papers I had a change of heart, but your mother was adamant to keep Mia out of this family. I messed up, I should have fought against your mother. But at the same time I didn't see you fight or care either. I am truly sorry for that. But what is done is done. There's no changing the past." I should have known it was my mom. She's the trophy wife. She's been a good mom, but honestly the nanny and maids raised me more then my parents. Considering my mother never worked a day in her life it's pretty sad. She was always busy going shopping, going out with her friends or working on charity events or galas.
"Dad, you know I can't just leave this alone. I was stupid enough to walk away six years ago. I won't make the same mistake again." My dad sighed. "Son, please. Just don't do something stupid." I smirked. "Don't worry, I'm going to win her back. I'm going to get my girl back and my family." He shook his head but I could see the smirk in his eyes. He actually looked proud. It's been a long time since I've seen the look.
