《Falling For His Nanny [Book #1]》Chapter 3

Having transferred his address from my arm into my phone last night, I checked to make sure that I was at the right location.

Nodding my head when I found that I was indeed at the right address, I pulled up to the gate where a security guard sat waiting for me in a booth.

"Please state your name and the reason for being at the Isaacs' residence."

"I'm Laurel Flynn and I have a scheduled meeting with Mr. Isaacs at exactly 3 o'clock."

I was a couple minutes early, but I'd rather be early than late. And Levi made it clear that he wanted me to be here on time.

The security guard who's name tag read Spencer, called who I assumed was Levi to confirm my appointment with him.

I watched as he nodded before hanging up the phone. "Mr. Isaacs is expecting you." After he pushed a button controlling the gate, I thanked him and smiled before proceeding forward.

Parking my car in the driveway of the luxurious modern home, I didn't waste any time admiring the exterior as I only had seconds before the clock struck three.

Ringing the doorbell, I eyed the camera above and waved awkwardly. I felt stupid after doing it and silently cursed myself.

A second later, the door was opened, Levi standing on the other side. He was dressed in a deep gray suit with a white dress shirt underneath, and a pair of crisp white sneakers.

Two buttons on his shirt were undone, exposing more of the tattoos that canvassed his firm build. My eyes trailed down his body, eyeing the expensive looking watch on his wrist.

This was a man who looked like he made millions owning a chain of businesses across the globe.

And although attractive as hell, I preferred his rugged bad boy look more. At least then, I didn't feel as under dressed as I do now.

I wanted to rush back home and change out of this white button down top, denim jeans, and worn out converse shoes.

But it was too late.

So I figured that if I worked hard enough to impress him, then he would end up completely overlooking my poor attire.

He glanced at his wrist watch, then brought his gaze back to me. "Exactly 3 o'clock on the dot. Impressive."

I internally smiled. Being on time has already put me in his good graces. Which means I just might have a shot at getting the job I still know nothing about.

I removed my shoes, leaving them on a black mat near the entrance so I didn't ruin his nice wooden flooring with my dirty old sneakers.

Following him through the foyer and into the living room, he sat down on the sofa chair and motioned me to take a seat in the one positioned on the opposite of him.

Sitting down, I kept my spine straight and placed my hands in my lap.

Awkward silence filled the air, my eyes darting around the room in an attempt to avoid making eye contact. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, suddenly feeling hot all over under his heavy gaze.

My eyes floated over to him when I caught a glimpse of a grin forming behind his neatly trimmed beard. He sat man-spread with his chin resting on a propped up fist.

After another moment of silence passed, I thought for sure that this had been a waste of time until he finally spoke. "Do you know why you're here, Laurel?"

"No. I was hoping you would tell me," I said truthfully.

He pushed himself up into a more comfortable position, his brows knitting together. "How would you feel working for me as a Nanny?"

"For Declan?" He nodded and I felt like the miracle I had asked for had come true. "Of course. I would love to." I wanted to be professional and keep a straight face, but I couldn't hide my excitement.

Not only was this a great opportunity for me to make some real money to pay off my debt and help my grandmother, but I would be spending time with the thing I love most. Kids.

"Then it's settled. I will have my movers move all of your things into storage. Bring only what you need, as everything else will be provided to you."

I blinked at him in confusion. "Wait. Why would I need to move my things into storage?"

"Because you're moving in."

"As like a live-in Nanny?" I questioned.

He nodded, pushing himself up on to his feet. "I need you here with Declan twenty-four seven. Especially when I'm not able to be."

This is all happening so fast.

I fiddled with the hem of my top, trying to process it all. I didn't know that I would be giving up my apartment as well. Not that I mind, considering how extravagant Levi's home is.

"Don't you want to do a background check on me first?" I asked, looking up at him.

Another subtle grin crossed his features. "I already have. And you're quite fascinating, Laurel Emery Flynn."

I froze at the sound of my full name leaving his lips. I shouldn't have been so surprised as I'm sure being an owner to a myriad of businesses has its perks.

But I was.

Because no one, and I mean no one, has ever made my name sound so utterly delectable. I wanted to melt at the slight rasp in his voice, my heart thumping a mile a minute.

He made me sound interesting. Although there wasn't a single interesting thing about me. So I'm curious to know why he thinks I'm fascinating.

I mean I went to your usual house parties and snuck into movies here and there, but nothing too crazy. I was a broke straight A student, who put everyone else's needs above my own. Which isn't too far from being my life now.

"T-Thank you," I stammered with a blush.

I wasn't overly shy. In fact, I have quite a bit of confidence. But when I'm around Levi all of my confidence seems to fly out the window. Not necessarily in a bad way, but just enough for me to have a hard time focusing on anything other than his manly good looks and deep voice.

"I called in for tomorrow, so I can give you a tour of the house and fill you in on what I expect from you as Declan's Nanny."

"What time would you like me to be here?" I asked, standing up to follow him back over to the main entrance.

"9 o'clock sharp."

I internally groaned, hating that I had to be here so early. I enjoy sleeping in. Which I realize will have to change in order to fit Declan's schedule.

Speaking of Declan, where is he? The house is so quiet that I thought maybe he was sleeping or something. But now I'm starting to think he might not be here. Which is a bummer, because I was hoping to see the little tike again.

As I'm putting back on my converse in an upright position, I end up losing my footing trying to shove my foot in the stubborn shoe.

Panicking, my hand shot out to frantically grab Levi's forearm, but I missed and ended up falling into his arms.

I'm not a clumsy person. But putting on these shoes without embarrassing yourself in the process is damn near impossible.

And I knew this. But because I wanted to look cute in front of Levi, I instead just made myself out to look like a complete oaf.

He caught me effortlessly, his hands gripping my waist to steady me. His touch sent a shockwave of electricity coursing through my body as he positioned me upright.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes." I shook my head, reminding myself never to wear these shoes again. "I promise you that I am not always this clumsy," I said with a nervous laugh.

He pulled his hands away and the warmth disappeared. "I'm sure," he said with a light chuckle. He then bent down on one knee, picked up my shoe, and smiled up at me. "Here, I'll help you."

Slipping my foot into the shoe, I felt like Cinderella with Levi as my Prince Charming. Once both my feet where in the shoes, he tied them and stood back on to his feet.

"Thank you," I said, biting at my lower lip.

"No problem." He flashed me a kind smile and opened the door just as a little curly haired boy ran inside.

Levi looked outside and waved to somebody in their car, before turning around to greet his son.

"Hey Declan."

Declan dropped his little Finding Nemo backpack onto the floor and ran back to give his father a hug.

Declan's green eyes drifted up to me. I waved and flashed him a polite smile. Pulling away from his father, I was surprised when he also gave me a hug.

I looked to Levi, but his expression was unreadable. I couldn't tell what was going through his head at that moment.

He cleared his throat and straightened back up. "Do you want a snack, Declan?"

Declan nodded, his face lighting up at the mention of snack. He grabbed my hand, tugging me in the direction of the kitchen.

"I'm sorry buddy, but Laurel can't stay. You'll see her tomorrow, okay?"

I can't?

It's not like I had anything else to do.

Declan frowned, but Levi paid him no mind. "Thank you for stopping by."

Something was off. He just suddenly seemed so far away. Even as he smiled, it didn't feel as natural and genuine as before.

"Of course," I mumbled.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that something I did upset him. What? I have no clue.
