Dante and I stood there stoically watching as the twins bickered as they stuffed their belongings in their duffle bags. Even while they were arguing they still did things for each other without the other even having to ask. Aiden threw Caden's toiletry bag into his duffle after going to retrieve his own and bringing both back from the bathroom. Aiden's bag was black as was his entire wardrobe. Caden's bag was an electric green color that had been his favorite since childhood.
The twins had a thing about colors. It stemmed back to their childhood as far back as I could remember. Black was Aiden's color and green was Caden's. Nobody had ever been able to tell the two apart as children, so their parents had color-coordinated them and all of their belongings. Occasionally they would take it upon themselves to disguise as the other to trick people. Even Dante and I had a hard time noticing and we had known them as long as they have known each other.
A psychologist would probably have a field day with their co-dependent tendencies and identity crises. They had decided to take their color coordination a little too far or at least Caden had when he dyed his naturally black hair to a bright green at the beginning of our freshman year at Oak Mountain Prep. His hair has been that color since. It was the only difference between the two guys besides their smell but most people besides Dante and I wouldn't notice that. Their six-foot height and broad chests matched completely. They were between Dante and me in height and muscle build. Dante was a solid five foot nine with a lithe graceful build whereas I stood at a good six foot seven and was built like a mountain.
Dante lived with the twins when school wasn't in session. He had no family left after the accident that took their lives. The twin's parents took him in once they realized he had been sent to foster care. They went through the process to become his legal guardian and got him out as quickly as they could. Dante never talked about his life during that time, but we all had ideas of what it was like. He had been forever changed after that. His tendency to need control over everything was something we all overindulged in. We let him protect us even if we were all bigger than him. It wasn't that he was the weakest out of us by any means we were all evenly matched in a fight with our different advantages and disadvantages, but we did have the ability to defend ourselves. If anyone tried to touch him without permission, they were likely to get hit. It had happened a few times and now people had learned to give him a wide berth. Nobody wanted to be on his shit list not even the rest of us.

The twins interrupted my musing by zipping up their bags before flinging them over their shoulders in eerie synchrony. "Let's get out of here." Caden rubbed his hands together like an evil villain. I knew I wasn't the only one to roll my eyes at him though I didn't see anyone else do it as well. It was just expected at this point.
We all piled into my SUV after the twins loaded their bags into the trunk. Dante in the front and the twins in the back. I checked my pockets to be sure I had everything and sighed when I noticed my missing wallet. I held my hand out over my shoulder without having to look back. Within a few moments, my wallet was pushed into my palm. "Sorry, sometimes I can't help it," Caden murmured.
I smiled and shook my head. We had all learned years ago to never carry cash because of Caden's thieving tendencies but it didn't stop him from stealing our wallets just for the thrill. I had missed spending so much time with these guys. It would be one week of isolation for us in our cabin, but it would be the most interaction I would receive for probably the majority of the summer. Being me meant that people just assumed since I couldn't talk that I didn't have anything interesting to say. I guess I could agree because I had never really considered myself that interesting. My family shunned me for the most part. The guys didn't know the extent of their mistreatment, if they had, I was pretty sure I would also be living with the twins. Their parents were the best. My entire summer had been spent studying for most of my classes since I didn't have much better to do. I never really felt the need to talk with the guys anyway. We could communicate through sign language, and I could hear them talking but they mostly knew what I wanted or what I would say even before I had to bring it up. I felt heard by them even though I never had to say anything.

Every year the week right before classes started was spent together at the cabin and it was the best part of my year. The cabin was right off school grounds. It had been my grandfather's that he left for me in his will along with everything else he owned much to my parent's dismay. He felt that my stance on morals was courageous whereas the rest of my family saw it as weak. I was practically a vegan among wolves, and they would never understand. My grandfather did. He had died with a lot of regrets that he had discussed with me near the end. He was the only one in my family that had ever been there for me. The day he passed away I had decided to stick to my morals and to live my life to make him proud.
When we arrived at the cabin the guys all ran in to put their stuff into their rooms. There were four but only three were regularly used. The fourth was a library with a small bed for guests that I didn't have any blankets for. The twins always shared. I was pretty sure it was part of their co-dependence, and they just couldn't sleep that far away from each other. Caden snored loudly so I had no idea how Aiden put up with it every night. When all was settled, we met back up in the living room with snacks to play some video games. It would be a wonderful week and I was looking forward to every second of it.
